Re: Davis Cup - China

So how many ties do the Aussies have to win to get back into the world group?

Next zonal tie is in April, then if we win that it's the World Group Playoffs in Sepetmber.

Re: Davis Cup - China

BTW, 8 World Group ties:

Spain vs. Kazhatan - Spain have sent their B team and tehy still should have no issues

Austria vs Russia- Has potential to be the best tie of the weekend. Still can't get sued Bogolomovr Jr. with the Rus symbol.

Canada vs. France - Been palyed in Canada, this one could easily go to a 3rd day with France 2-1 down, tricky one for the French bu you would ahve to pick them.

Switerzland vs. USA - If Fish was in his best sort of form like in the mdidle of last year he (and USA) would be a chance but again this is clay (I'm assuming a sslow as possible) so Swiss witha full strength team should be playign quarters

Serbia vs. Sweden - No Djokovic but this is still the biggest mismatch of the weekend, Sweden without Soderling is no team.

Czech Republic vs. Italy - Czechs and Berdych should be too strong on indoor hard.

Japan vs. Croatia - 1-1 after the first day but it was Soeda that pulled off the upset over Dodig, Nishikori still ahving a hangover after AO and losing comfortably to Karlovic, that makes this tie confusing but maybe Croatia are favourites now.

Germany vs. Argentina - Inrtiguing tie on paper but Argentina are solid favourite and Nalbandian should do his Davis Cup thing.

Re: Davis Cup - China

lol switzerland shot themselves on their foot as isners serve was bouncing way above federers head. His groundies had too much topspin and power for federer.Fed looked uncomfortable and slugglish. Lol..they fear isner and fish so much that they opted for clay??? jesus :D

Re: Davis Cup - China

Korea are up 2-0 against Chinese Taipei so it is looking like we play them which is a bit of suprise. Massive lol at Federer losing to Isner on that slow as surface.

Re: Davis Cup - China

The clay might be slow but it was very high bouncing, I went to bed after the Wawrinka match but I imagine Isner was just smashing serves above Fed's head all day. Still pretty major lulz though.

Re: Davis Cup - China

If they play on hard Juan Martin Del Potro makes himself available and they get torn to shreds anyway.

So really their choice was Monaco on clay or JMDP on hard.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Was it made known that Del Potro wasn't going to play if they choose clay because I have no idea how they would of known. Strange choice but not going to matter really, Argentina would win anyway.

Lu and Wang are playing challengers in Australia, what's going on with them.

Wonder if there is some sort of protest going on between them and whoever runs Taiwanese tennis. Even more strange is Jones beating Lu in that challenger

Re: Davis Cup - China

Oh man. :D I just finished watching the Fish match, what a great fight by Mardy!! Thought he blew it there in the 5th but got another chance and finally took it!

And then I watch the Federer/Isner match until my IQ runs out and I go check the scores and see that Isner won!!! Unbelievable!!! Way to go Johnny!!

I find it hard to believe that JMDP's availability is dependent on the surface.

Even if this is right, I'd still go hardcourt. Or even grass.

Re: Davis Cup - China

Did federer hit a single clean winner in the entire match? jesus how bad was he?? lol@switzerland... they fear isner and fish on indoors when they have the likes of federer?? explain me the logic

Re: Davis Cup - China

Craig Willis is a great commentator imo. His knowledge he is bringing at the moment, even if it is random facts during the dead rubber makes it more interesting. Great to see him as something more than simply a voice man

Yep I actually enjoyed his commentary.

Interestingly Rafter said he thinks we're one of the top few teams even including the ones in the World Group.

We should beat Korea (although nothings given)and from there we would play a WG first round loser
(Germany, Switzerland, Italy , Kahazkstan) teams that have lost so far.

The worst would probably be playing the loser of Canada and France.
The ideal would be Kazakhstan or Italy.

Re: Davis Cup - China

we have been a bit unlucky the last few years in terms of our match ups (beside the decision not to go to india in 09)

be nice if we can go one at least once in the world group with a team of tomic, hewitt, ebden and guccione. that team at its best would give the world group a big shake.

what i loved most about willis' commentary is his knowledge of the game, the tour etc. he was explaining the surface australia will most likely play on due to the surfaces the players will predominantly play on at the time. much better than bruce who is out of place.

I think our major problem re getting into the world group or doing anything in the world group is as soon as we play away the home team will choose clay and it's goodnight.

Which makes the fact that we lost the last two World Group Playoff ties at hom even more disappointing.

Just hoping for another good draw.

Looks like the tie will be in Brisbane and on hard. Read an article that they decided to play on hard since it is straight after IW and Miami where Tomic and Ebden and maybe Hewitt will be playing.
