Here is a genuine decision.

Both are relatively cheap midfielders, but if you pick them, you would pick them for the season, so would expect to have them as a final 6 mid by end of season.

Round 1 Selwood is 573k i think and Gibbs 550k or so.

Considering Gibbs is likely to get more game time in mid and considering last year he consistently got 100 HOWEVER Selwood manages to get the crappy 70 score HOWEVER can get the match winning 140-150's! You would think Gibbs wont do any worst then ave the 105 he has last 2 years, but only get better....

I just feel with Geelongs game style and in match decisions that because Carlton are the hunters Gibbs might get more points as Cats seem to put the peddle of and there guns dont care hence not maximizing points. Obviously Selwood is a gun player but i dont think he will win a brownlow because of his style of play and also as a result can lack SC points.

Do you go for a improving Gibbs, hopefully do what Murphy did last year or go for Selwood.

ATM my midfield is Pendlbury, Ablett, Murphy, Gibbs, rookie 1, rookie 2.

Player X vs Y

Same as every year, answer the person above your posts question then ask your own!

Ablett and Trengove vs Gibbs and Mundy?

Re: Supercoach 2012 Selection GIBBS VS SELWOOD

Don't worry, you still have plenty of time to change it.
FWIW, I would lean towards Selwood because you know what you will get from him week to week. Gibbs may still get random shut down roles again next year and churn out those 70s and 80s again.

Re: Supercoach 2012 Selection GIBBS VS SELWOOD

I wonder how much of an effect Selwood getting concussed round 1 had on his scores, 1 pro would be he had 4 more weeks to prepare. and also i wonder if Selwood will ever be that 130 player or just a 117 ave guy. With his role and Geelongs game plan i dont think he will unless he becomes a consistent goal scorer and gets more possessions which he prob wont.

We heard this last yr, It's one of the reasons i had Gibbs in the side, that & DPP.

This yr we are hearing the same thing except no DPP.

PASS.

I'm with you Obese one - with Gibbs just listed as a MID in 2012 I'll go with little champ Joely Selwood on this one. Set to crush em in 2012 I reckon

I would pick selwood anyday of the week his 24 in round put down his average and when he copped the 4 week suspension he was lacking his usual touch and had a couple of below par games.

Hurley vs forwards with similar price brackets eg sidebottom

If Essendon get a bit of consistency together in 2012, then Hurley will be a great pick. It's more the team than him that I'd be worried about in picking him. He's a freak!

Thanks for answering soup the reason i am thinking of picking him is because he averaged 85 this year and played no where near to his potential. what do you think he will average next season

I've gone for a 4 premium / 2 rookie MID this year. I've pretty much locked in Selwood, Watson and Barlow as value premium picks. The best, max price premium is yet to be decided.
Tossing up between Pendles, Swan, Ablett, Rockliff & Murphy. Price is no object.
Thoughts? :)

I like it on the surface soups. But you are taking a high risk approach. Could pay off big time or fail big time.

Watson's hammy has me worried. Also, I'm less worried about Barlow on the injury front but more on the class front. I'd like to have seen more than 1 good half a year to pay out his current price.

I'd prefer Hodge over Watson and a safe premium over Barlow.

So, you suggest something like Rockliff, Selwood, Hodge, Moloney to mitigate risk?

I rate Barlow highly and I think Watson's injuries are over-stated. I guess it's a roll of the dice but, as you say, one with big rewards.

You may be right with Watson as he has only had 1 bad season. I tend to stay away from people who start having hammy problems...they tend to get worse before they get better. You need to tell Watson to talk to Chappy who sorted his out.

Barlow could kill it i guess and at 450 saves you 100k. I'm worried that he has only showed us half a season. So you could back in Barlow at 450k based on 1 good half season (like Curnow) or you could push the boat out a little extra for a Hodge type who is also underpriced yet at least has has 5+ years of pedigree and strong SC scores.

Basically, it is 3-4 months good scoring versus 5+ years of good scoring. Both are great PoDs.

Given you are going 4 premiums in the midfield then i suppose you have to save money somewhere and maybe it has to be Barlow.

I tend to think 3 strong premiums is a better bet as there are good rookie options in the mids. The money saved is better spent fwd/bck where there are few good rookies letting you buy an extra premium there.

These are the options I have (with the rest of the team staying the same):

M. Suckling, M. Priddis, D. Zorko, L. Franklin, B. Smedts & $107,500 salary cap
vs
M. Suckling, M. Priddis, D. Zorko, S. Mumford, B. Smedts & $98,700 salary cap
vs
C. Yarran, M. Priddis, D. Zorko, S. Mumford, J. Porplyzia & $0 salary cap
vs
B. Lake, J. Watson, M. Barlow, S. Mumford, B. Smedts & $6,400 salary cap

What are your thoughts? :)

I like the first one because Buddy is in there. No reason he can't be the top scoring forward again this year.
