I don't know about any of you guys, but I'm already looking forward to next year and because of it have a team which will hopefully win me my leages.

My current prototype is as follows ;

Gibbs - Top 3 Back next year
Goddard - See above
Deledio - See above
Enright - Will give me a decent score for a reasonable price
Suckling - See above
Grimes - Coming back from an LTI, should be a great price for a guy who was a top 10 back a few years ago

Swan - Do I have to say anything? Will be the #1 player next year again.
Pendlebury - See above
Scully/Trengove - Scully if he stays at Melbourne, Trengove if he doesn't. Melbourne SHOULD challenge for top 6 next year and with both these guys entering their 3rd year should be great for DT
Ablett - Great price for the #2 midfielder from 2010.

Cox - #1 Ruck of 2011
Sandilands - Has fought some injuries this year so should get a small price reduction, but has been a great DT ruck for years

Buddy - Top 3 Forward
N Riewoldt - See above
Stevie J - See above
Didak - Real cheap fr a guy who just a few years ago was one of the best forwards in DT
Watts - Entering what is really only his 3rd year(Played 3 games in his first), a strong preseason should have him averaging close to 90.
Fyfe - Breakout year, will be brilliant

Feel free to post yours!

More of a shortlist of interest, WAY too early to be even considering this without pricing available.

DEF:
Gibbs - Top few defenders
Goddard - hopefully back to 2010 form
Delids - Top few defenders
Birchall - Hawthorn key backs may let him run a bit more loose, avg 90+
Heppell - increased midfield time possibly
Broughton - underpriced for potential if midfielder
Gilbert - dependent on role change
Hurley - depends on role, could go bang
Taylor Hunt - if rebounding role/wing would be worth a look
Grimes - underpriced, likely discount
Suban - could step up
Connors - calf tendonitis, injury ravaged low scoring year
Urquhart - dunno what happened to him, just noticed hes barely played and would be rookie priced
Nathan Brown(Coll) - missed season, trouble getting a game with Ben reid though

MID:
Murphy - Carlton only gonna get better
Pendles/Swan - Should maintain output at the very least
Swallow, A - Kangas on the up could result in improvement, along with his own
Stanton - Just a fan, take out his injured games and very good avg, Essendon improving too
Selwood - love the guy
Ziebell - mid priced improver
Boak - underpriced for potential
Trengove - 3rd year, improver
Brad Ebert - cheap for what he can do, big smoky
Mundy - underpriced
Vince - underpriced, though bad knees a worry
Cooney - underpriced
K Jack - underpriced
Palmer - more opportunity, showed potential early
Cale Morton - big smoky, has potential if right role/position
Gaff - end of 2010 form
Scully - step up to premium status
Bastinac - smoky improver, injury plagued year
Barlow - see how he holds up
Masten - would be very cheap, high draft pick, dud or just needs kick up the arse?
Winderlich (if fwd) - 4 games at 50 avg, could at the very least be a cash cow
Hayes - discount, high risk at his age though
Koby Stevens - 2 games at 18 avg, rookie priced mid
Dalziell - as above
Blease - as above
Ben Ross - missed season
Josh Caddy - missed season
Morabito - missed season

RUC:
McEvoy - young, takes ruck mantle, keeps getting better
Ryder - can dominate, if Hille slowly phased out then possibly more ruck time
Mumford - only going to go forwards
Kreuzer - year after coming back from a reco, will end up one of the premier DT rucks
HMac - missed season (might still get a game though)

FWD:
Fyfe - no explanation needed
Cloke - still young, should maintain output
Zaharakis (if fwd) - A big fan, potential to get close to a 100 avg
Buddy - best fwd when on his game, hawks should still be up there
Sylvia - will be 3 years straight, still waiting for that dominant year
Watts - could also take that big improver step
LeCras - remain steady or slight improvement on this year
J Riewoldt - cheap
Varcoe - another who could improve with midfield time
FEV - see what happens, not a serious selection

A bit of a long shortlist, but just a few to sorta keep an eye on, tried to pick some left field ones. Most are fairly obvious, but as a fan of the mid pricers I like to keep an eye out should it become a viable strategy one day. Some like Dalziell just get a mention because of their past record, would be a serious chance to get delisted anyway, if not then as a rookie priced proposition would at least be worth a look

Doubt very much that either Gibbs will remain a defender or Fyfe will remain a forward.
Next year there will again be a few bargain midpricers like J.Brown, B.Lake, and in particular the Porpoise who will be near base price level. Winderlich is another who if given fwd status could be a bargain (avg 94 in '09, 87 in '10). Will have to be a trade off in the guns rookies strategy as there will be a number of quality rookie options against picking guys like Brown that could easy be keepers come seasons end.
Also this year we have seen a large increase in the scoring potential of cheap ruckmen due to the sub rule (Lobbe, Bailey, Smith avg ~70) so Cox could be paired with a base priced player (ie Giles), instead of the obvious option in Sandi who has suffered a bit with the injuries this year. This is helped by other strong options like Mummy, Berger, Jacobs, Goldy and McEvoy as viable keepers.

Anyone who picks up Grimes next season doesnt deserve to go well in dreamteam. He has been sidelined every season since day 1 with a LTI.

Odds are unfortunately it will continue, some players are just injury prone, he is 1 of them.

Winderlich is just as bad a pick as Grimes is. Winderlich with his previous back & current knee issues makes him a no go zone for 2012 no matter how good his preseason may be

Depends how cheap Winderlich is, as to whether he is worth the risk. Will he be ~200k? No one expects him to be a keeper anyway

Good thread to discuss next years' players.

Nigh impossible to think about rookies, without seeing the draft order (unless you can translate the back section of the Prospectus).

Jon Giles from GWS might be worth a look as 4th ruck - he was reportedly going really well in the SANFL last year. Mature-aged, too.

Elite Backs:
Gibbs
Deledio
Goddard
Fisher
Scotland
Suckling

Mids:
Pendles
Swan
Selwood
Ablett
Montagna (after this year, not sure)
Murphy

Rucks:
Cox
Sandi (risky)
Jolly
McEvoy
Giles

Fwds:
Buddy
Pav
Cloke
Goodes (too old?)
Riewoldt (underpriced)
Didak (underpriced)
Chapman
Stevie J

Probably on everyone's wishlist, but still

No love for Rocky??

Will be an elite mid for sure.

Only his second full year, the boy knows how to rack them up....

This year really has seen a changing of the guard, with some premiums from previous years (Montagna, Bartel, Didak, etc) not holding the value they have in previous years, where some young players have really come out of nowhere to become extremely relevant. Players who I'll be looking at very closely:

Backs:
Suspect Gibbs will go back to midfield only. Goddard really should. Lake should be priced way under what he could produce, depends what he does over the pre-season. Deledio will surely be a back. Maybe Burgoyne?

Mids:
Dustin Martin has a huge ceiling, and will be entering his third season. Someone like Shiels could well become one of your DT premiums for the next 10 years.

Rucks:
Has to be Goldstein as your first pick

Forwards:
Jack Watts. Has really come on this year and I'd expect him to continue that improvement next year. Zaharakis, if he is still a forward, would be one of my first picked. Jack Steven falls in the same category.

Has to be considered. Lowest non injury effected score (Scored 59 in a game where he was subbed off because of injury and missed 2 weeks due the injury) this year is just 86 V the Gold Coast. Averaging 109......he's been a jet.

Guys like Martin and Scully could have their breakout seasons next year, they really have to be considered.

So many of the backs and forwards now are looking like they're over the hill.

How many years can you pick Goodes, Scotland, O'Keefe, Harvey, Enright and Pavlich?

Not all young fellas anymore.

I think the top end scoring could swing in an unpredictable manner next year and you just need to be eagle eyed on which players you can select forward and back that will be getting time in the midfield.

Like already said if Gibbs and Goddard go MID only that just restricts your options even more.

Sort of what I was alluding to when I suggested a changing of the guard this year. Cox and Sandilands are two others that won't be around for ever. Yes Cox has been amazing this year, and Sandi has had an awkward injury, but there are a lot of ruck options next year with Kruezer, Goldstein, Leuenberger, McEvoy all legitimate options. Possibly Naitanui as well.

Not sure what his price will be like next year but I will be looking into Gaff. If he can have an injury free pre season I can see him having a big year and he plays a perfect dream team friendly game. Might be a bit pricey though with the finish he is having!

Will be a dream team superstar in the future.

In a similar vein I am considering foregoing Sandilands next year. I'm prepared to bet against a durable year from him and instead bet on one of the young blokes in Leuenberger, Goldstein and McEvoy.

Anyone else worried about Naitanui getting more ruck time next year and Cox's scores suffering?

Backs
Gibbs (Best Defender)
Deledio (Top 7 defender and still potential to go higher)
Suckling (Same as Deledio and young)
Goddard (Price drop from this year)

Mids
Swan (Legend)
Ablett (will be cheap)
Barlow (Lowest score has been 98 in non sub game and cheap)
Gaff (could be next years Liam Shiels and Rockliff)
Shiel and Treloar (would have gone 1 and 2 in regular draft, will be dirt cheap as they have not gone through the draft)
Murphy (Cheap like Ablett, less than 400k at the moment).
Coniglio (will be expensive but potential is huge, Lets hope he chooses footy for DT sakes)

Rucks
Leunberger (Gun ruckmen who can only get better)
Goldstein (Same as Leunberger, if McIntosh goes then he is lock)
Cox* (Little bit weary on Cox, will be 30 years old next, output could drop)
Giles (Mature ruckmen who was called the best ruckmen outside the AFL Last year, will be cheap)

Forwards
Franklin (Obvious)
Fyfe (If he doesnt get injured, should only get better.) (Lets hope he stays a forward)
No more come to mind at the moment. Maybe Steve Johnson

Roughie
Folau (Will obviosly be cheap and could be fun to have him).

There seems to be this notion that Ablett will be cheap. Heard a few times. Aside from a slow start and an injury affected game I'm pretty sure prices will be based on average and he will still have one of the top averages in the game and will thus be priced accordingly.

Murphy similarly, The prices are not based on how they finish the season but season average I thought so the 3 game average and how this causes fluctuations when a player has 1 bad game won't be nearly as relevant over the course of the entire seasons average.

Phil Davis will be very cheap next year. Against Hawthorn he got 97...but in his other 2 games he got injured and subbed before HT. So an average of 45 + discount = Very cheap. Could have a breakout year (3rd year rule). If he's body holds up and pre season form is okay, then get on. Bock is getting an 80ish average at GC atm. If Davis looks like getting something similar, his price would make him a lock

Rucks will be interesting next year. Could be the rise of Leuenberger/McEvoy era. Hoping HMac doesn't get a game for the rest of the year so he'll be dirt cheap next year (Would probaley be under 200K if he doesn't get a game). If he is getting games at North and playing okay, you've got 80+ average. Would be the perfect 2nd ruck IMO.

Changing of the guard year it seems all over the board. Looks to be a new era for DT

Hard for Davis to go on Bock like runs from the defensive 50 when he'll be the cornerstone of defence. Wouldn't bank on him personally.

But he could be Waters 09 cheap......you'd only consider if price was too hard to refuse (Thats what Im saying)

Good point. Didn't think about that. 3 game averages and break even shouldn't count for the starting price next year.

Not sure why Gibbs and Goddard wouldn't still be DEF/MIDs next season, they have both played in each spot just as much as the other this season.
