Can Chapman replace Milburn on veterans list?

Turns 30 next month and has met the 10 seasons hurdle. I just don't know if the "relevant year" to be 30 is prior to the season starting or the season in which the player is added to the vet's list.

Little help...

Veteran Players

Under AFL player rules, each club may nominate or list any number of what are called Veteran Player’s.

•In order to be eligible for classification as a Veteran a player must have been the age of 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season and be on the primary list of the AFL club for at least 10 years or in the case of Port Adelaide since the inception of the club.
•From 2006 there is now no limit on the number of veteran players a club can list, as long as the player meets the required classification

Re: 2011 list management general discussion

SJ, perhaps read my post again. I have seen the rules.

It is not clear to me what the "a player must have been the age of 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season " means. Whoever drafted that sentence needs a lesson in the use of tense.

When they finalise the 2012 lists this year, Chappy will not "have been" 30 as at September 30 of any year. I suspect what they mean is a player will be 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season. If that's the case, Chappy is eligible.

But if anyone could be so kind as to confirm...

Well I assume it means for Chapman to be eligible for the 2012 veterans list he needs to have been 30 (or older) on September 30 2012. Which he will be.

Re: 2011 list management general discussion

The rules seem pretty clear to me: "a player must have been the age of 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season".

Revelant AFL season is 2012. Chapman will be 30 on September 30 2012.

It changes at the end of next year though doesn't it?
I'm sure it does. One of the criteria drops off or pulls back.

It may be semantics, but the past tense "have been" makes it ambiguous from my (pedantic?) point of view.
