Would prefer the current system but with points taken from the last 3/4/5 years.

It would make it impossible to tank for one year, and would help the perennial under achievers.

I assume compensation picks will be given out in a similar fashion, although it could just be if Vlad likes you or not.

This. Assessed over a 3 year period would be quite equitable.

17 rounds and a situation where the draft isn't totally screwed whenever a expansion club joins please. Zone selections, 17 year old pre-seelction and first access to Free-Agents and mature WAFL/SANFL/VFL players is where it should end. Perhaps something to make the acquisition of players from the club's home states from elsewhere more viable. None of this pick 1,2,3,5,7,9,11 rubbish, and no trading coveted 17 yo selections among expansion clubs.

Might be hard with TV rights but, how about everyone plays everyone once up until Round 17 and where they sit after Round 17 determines draft order. No point tanking for picks from rounds 18-24 as winnin the last 7 games could still get you into finals.

What about linking ladder position with prize money?
