Began yesterday in Oman. 4 groups of 4 - we're with Iran, Japan and Kuwait.
Top 2 from each group advance to quarter-finals.
Our first game is just over an hour away against Kuwait.

Good to start off with a win - tough group with Japan and Iran. Iran up next, if we can nick a win, that should put us into the next round.

Ryan Kitto scored the only goal.

Australian Squad for the AFC U-22 Championships in Oman, from 11-26 January 2014:

Whatever gets R Edwards and McLaren out of the country while weakening other A-League sides has my vote.

McLaren withdrew because of a back injury, I think he's fit next week. Bizarrely his replacement was Adam Taggart. Bizarre in the fact he was picked ahead of him.

Question, where are Rogic and Bulut?

Rogic is generally agreed to be a very good player and Bulut was also highly rated when he went to Turkey.

Looking at the squad theres very few guys pushing for Brazil, maybe only Taggart at this stage. Rogic is a monty to go and Bulut has been around squads before. Maybe the squad is designed with the idea of giving the next gen a run as opposed to guys with realistic chances of making the Cup squad.

Keep an eye out for Ryan Kitto who scored the only goal against Kuwait. Known him for a few years now as we went to the same school (he was in the year below).A quality kid, and also a great footballer who has a massive future in the game. Already made a few appearances for the Adelaide United senior team.

Losing 2 nil in the quarter final, some quality diving by the scummy arabs

It finished 2-1 with Skapetis (spl?) scoring a penalty.

And jesus, can we split the AFC in half and make the Middle East their own federation? It's absolutely painful playing the cheap bastards.
