Lucas Neil taught us that. Master of the dark arts. Slide tackle. Preferably studs up.It's a constant question that I ponder why are out friendlies always so snippy.... We are the problem![]()
See even at one nil up I can predict the future. I'm the best.Seriously though I don't think we'll win I reckon they'll come back for at least a draw but heck I'd love to beat those yank campaigners.

The only country with worse football chants than usWittiest chant of all time by the yank fans.
Going a goal down was good in the sense we got to see us play with some urgency. Had chances just didn't take them.
Despite that good save at the end Ryan should be firmly behind Izzo. Boyle should be a bench player at best, he is cooked.
Boyle is useful in that he can play on the wing and at CF.
However he must be behind Toure, Botic & Daggers in the CF equation.
Segecic is going to be a must imo for the squad next season. Front 3 of Segecic on the right cutting in, Irankunda on the left cutting in feeding a Mo Toure who hopefully gets a move to Bundesliga / Ligue 1 etc in the winter window. Oh boy - exciting times.
If everyone is fit I want to see this lineup next year
-------------------------Izzo-------------------
---------Burgess-------Souttar--------Circati
--Miller--------Metcalfe------Ballard-----------J. Bos
----Segecic---------Toure---------Irankunda
Ryan
Geria
Rowes
Behich
O'Neill
Robertson
Hrjustc
Irvine
Goodwin
Boyle
Botic
Daggers
Yazbek I like a lot in midfield at least somewhere in the squad. Teague too and maybe Okon if he has a good A-League season. And Matthews, Milanovic, and Silvera probably stay somewhere near the squad. Need a third GK probably it's Gauci.
Biggest gap is centre-forward... Toure looks most likely but not there yet. And not convinced with Yenigi, Botic, or Daggers to compete / as a back-up. Would love to see someone like Jovanovic do something special in the coming season.

Also, if Volpato was availabe - would he even get selected?
Id rate McGree, Segecic, Irankunda above him as wide players. Irankunda is clearly better and they would be fighting for the same position.
I also completely left out Riley McGree. He's just coming back for Boro and is surely a starter if fit.
Maybe Segecic drops to the bench. Front 3 of McGree,Toure, Irankunda. Backup front 3 of Segecic,Botic,Silvera. Boyle as cover for both CF and wide attacking positions.
Volpato joins a long list of high-potential youngsters with a certain crowd calling for us to "cap him!!!!!" only to peter out and appear like they'll not live up to that potential.
Ironically for Volpato if he'd picked Australia he might've already gone to a World Cup and still had an avenue to future international appearances. But as an Italy player, he's probably not even going to end up Serie A quality let alone an International.
Hard to do in international football... but you wonder if Popovic can find a way to utilise Boyle, McGree, Segecic, Goodwin, Metcalfe, or someone as a CF option.
Irankunda, Segecic, McGree as a front-three looks pretty exciting A) if you can get Segecic on board and playing to potential and B) if you can find a way for them to function together and provide a proper front 3 structure.
As a Glory fan... I can fondly remember Popovic coaching us using Diego Castro in that centre forward role with Ikonomidis providing goal-threat from the narrow left wing role, and Chianese doing as a mainly pressing narrow right forward. A similar structure with Irankunda as the goal threat, McGree as the presser, and Segecic or someone else as the creative centre forward/false 9 (and the overlapping wingbacks where Bos and Miller in particular offer plenty of threat) is a very nice attacking structure.
Out of that lot only Boyle & Segecic can play a CF roles. Goodwin is strictly a wide player. Metcalfe is a midfielder.
I don't see these ever being needed at CF with Mo Toure, Botic, Daggers, Dukey etc.
Not convinced by Daggers.
I like Duke more than most... but think with age he's not a solution anymore.
Botic or Toure have potential but not shown enough yet (same as Yenigi).
Which means need someone else to emerge (Jovanovic most likely I think), someone like Taggart or Stamantopoulos to find some amazing form at the right time, or an out-of-the-box solution.
I don't know much about Segecic but would be interested if he's got any overlap in skillset with what Castro did at Glory. Or more interestingly... I'd heard St Pauli under their previous coach had Metcalfe playing a sort of hybrid CF role where he would start up top then drift out into a wide midfield role making space for others? Just wonder if Popa has it in him to create a solution like that (it's a lot harder to create complex team systems with national teams... so might be better off with the best traditional CF we have and let them work).
