Absolutely.

Many players have for years been critical of Mrs Federer privately. Expect to see more players come out in support of Stan over time. Federer isn't the great sport people portray him as (I love him but).

On what evidence? He's played 1100+ matches (and not one of them has he retired) and has barely ever made a negative headline. And his 6 years as elected president of the ATP Player Council suggests the players hold faith in him representing them.

Remember the quote a few years ago from Nadal when the pay dispute was on about how Federer puts on a public persona because he wants to be liked?

Seen Federer lose it in his younger days and still at times?

Don't get me wrong is well liked but is seen as a protected species by the media by many players. Again I am a huge Federer fan but the hallow is not deserved.

Wait and see what comes out in early 2015.

A) Federer lead the charge as president of the players council to secure more prize money at the Aussie and US Open.

B) Federer worked hard to completely do away with his emotional outbursts when he was young, which no doubt helped him come the person he is today. Gigantically mentally tough and focussed. He never loses it. As I said 1100+ matches - that's a massive sample size for so few examples.

C) Federer does a huge amount of charity work, and even has his own foundation

Want a moron in tennis, then say hello to Tomic or Ernest Gulbis.

So is there any truth to the Federer/Wawrinka locker room scrap?

Yeah, they definitely had words after the match. It's basically been confirmed (by the chair umpire) that Stan wasn't happy with something Mirka said during the match. Strange because she always seems pretty emotionless whenever you see her on the broadcast.

Not sure why that means Fed himself isn't a good sport.

Re A - he pushed for it but was not willing to take strike action like other top players - hence Nadal's comments. I wouldn't say he "led the charge".

B - he still does lose it at times though not much. Watch his reactions when he loses and how he greets players at the net. Certainly not as warm as a Nadal or Novak. I don't really have an issue with that - I would be pissed to lose. But certainly not the cuddly bear character he is portrayed to be.

C - what does is charity work have to do with anything? I am not saying the guy is evil - far from it. I have said he is an excellent player and guy. My point is simply that he is not infallible like he is portrayed. His wife has (again) been accused of sledging a player from the box. I don't know about you but if my partner engaged in such behaviour I would tell her to stop it. The fact this has gone on for years and no player has saw fit to challenge it until now is because of the hallow surrounding Fed. If what I have been told by current Australian players (who by the way are good friends with and love Federer) is true, then expect others to come out and back Stan saying Mirka needs to change.

D - what do Gulbis and Tomic have to do with anything? Again I never said Federer is a brat or a bad sport - just that he isn't perfect. Why reach for extreme examples that have nothing to do with the argument?

All that aside - anyone know if Australia is televising the IPTL? Cannot wait.

I agree. It will be interesting to see his behaviour in 2015 when he struggles in the majors.
