I think people will sway a bit when they see Ellis’ highlights package from the club. I’m sure they’ll be working overtime to make it look as great as possible.

Eh RFC_Official ?

Targeting Trengove in the trade period with a willingness to trade our first round pick might give us an indication as to what the club believes are our needs, Trengove is classy rather than speedy, much alike Ellis, with both being inside players. Does list management think Conca, B Ellis, Grigg etc can satisfy our outside run needs? I for one think Weller should be our priority. Interesting times to say the least!
This.

Ellis just strikes me as a kane lucas type. Love that pick 12 uncertainty hey...

I thought that too at first but Kane Lucas didn't have close to the inside game Ellis does. I think this is why the club rates him so highly, they see him more as a Black/Pendlebury type who while not quick is very good in traffic.

Can't see his highlights package within a bulls roar of Lever.

Its interesting Ellis is similar to Conca in that similar height and movement. Ellis is not a bad player but looks a little on the plodder side. I am starting to think Francis may use some formula totally foreign to most on how he views players! Its a bit like Heppel, he fails to see the physical prowess in players through their movement and leans towards Conca. For example Ellis modelled his game a little off Heppel. He even talks of Heppell in his clip and they are both left footers. Ellis appears to have a terrific left foot but, really he does not move like Heppel. He does not have Heppells bounce/leap not to mention his height, physical presence, and possibly balance which Heppell relys on at AFL level. So you can't compare the 2 really!

The only player you can really compare is Garlett to Gilbert McAdam, he is almost a reincarnation!

I really starting to believe the selections are manufactured and they don't really have an eye for physical brilliance typifying high end footballers in the prospects in terms of the hand/eye, balance, poise, presence etc... package!

Would say they couldn't be more different. Kane Lucas is Shaun Grigg...outside runner with no inside game and is not quick....and can't kick.

Ellis is an inside mid with foot skills.

I WANT WELLER THOUGH!

We also went after greenwood and Armitage. Both inside players. Moving forward our only proven inside players are cotchin and miles. Conca should be ok and vlastuin might make the transition. If cotch or miles go down we are down to thomas. On the outside we have ellis, deledio and martin. Gordon and lennon should be able to help out here as well. Clearly a need for inside players. Just a pity brayshaw wont fall to us. As much as id like weller i think we will be taking ellis. Pick 33 should still be very interesting with some exciting players set to be still on the board

Garlett is not good enough for 12. He is very light only 180cm. Probably make a handy forward hybrid like Gilbert McAdam but these days it will be tougher for him in the middle against bigger bodies.
Probably right but how good has brad hill been? Still i prefer an outside player who can mix it inside.

Interesting because these guys are on the plodder side to and not really good enough in terms of injecting a real boost and lift into the team. I am starting to think our recruiters are flying blind.

Apart from the absolute high draft picks like Cotch Lids and Martin we have not plucked out any brilliant players in the drafts. Even our Ellis and Rance are great workers with what they have but I would not call them as elite brilliant players despite being guns at what they do.

Honestly, I think B Hill is overrated. He is a good player in a good team. I would picky Cocky ahead of Hill in this draft and plenty of others as well. Hill in this draft is probably late teens early 20's IMO

I prefer Duggan or Weller over Elliis, as he seems like another FJ vanilla type

Ellis isnt a full blown inside mid either. He relies heavily on foot skills to be effective. Going at 70 odd% by foot in his first year TAC cup and then 49% in his second year. Also a foot injury may have affected his kicking.
I doubt Ellis plays more then 2-3 games for us next year and would be coming off a limited pre season.

Some posters are questioning his inside game. They seem to think he is more outside preferring the space. I must say on the outside he seems to lack a little pace while on the inside he lacks possibly the physical presence and reach to be truly effective at the highest level even though he may have good hands.

He can see why his issue may be getting the ball, thus perceived inconsistency, because he lacks the speed, reach, leap combo to get more ball against the basket.

If FJ does decide on Ellis and the general consensus is we have reached and missed out on someone who goes on to kick goals and become a top player....will he come under some pressure??????

God I hope not!

It wont be Ellis fault he was picked at 12 if that happens. It reminds me of when we got Brandon, people were saying we over reached then as well but look how that turned out. IMO the club has done a power of work, a lot more work then most who post on this board i would think. I actually dont mind Ellis if we get him as at worst case he will be IMO a 100 gamer for us. He has neat skills, good leadership and knows most importantly when and where to run to get the pill. Yeah he has been inconsistent but when he was firing, his numbers and effect on the game was easily worth a high pick.

In saying the above I would love a Ahern to fall to us. We need not just speed but we need a player of quality who has that speed.

The thing is, it’s not just FJs decision it’s a list management decision. So guys like Dan Richardson and Blair Hartley would have some input into what attributes of a player should be given a priority.
We just have to see him play if we do select him. Who knows he could be a ripper like Brandon Ellis and not the flop many are predicting.

Toad, how much input do you think hardwick would have in our draft selection if any ?

I don't doubt Ellis is a fairly decent player and would provide us with some very handy skills. Ahern another who has the skill set and pace we need.

I believe we need flair, a take-them-on game-breaker with great skills and a really smart footy brain. With his professionalism and attitude, that's why I am in Lachie Weller's corner. This guy can add something huge for us. Add's another dimension to our midfield and can be a goal sneak, and with the development of his brother, massive potential to build that frame to become stronger and tougher.

For me he should be our No.1, given that Duggan will most likely be gone.
