Anyone heard anything about Cordys height? He was 192 at the start of the year right? Considering his age (and not to mention how ridiculously tall Ayce is) surely you'd be expecting him to end up at 194 +, which could be considered proper CHB height IMO.

Love the fact that we should be able to get him cheap but he actually fits our recent drafting model to a tee. Good attitude, tall, versatile, skilful.

When you think about it we have been ridiculously lucky not just with the quality of F/S's we've been getting, but also the position they play.

2008, desperately need young talls - get Ayce Cordy (ok didn't end up great but still the footy gods tried :p)
2010, going into a full rebuild, we know Maccas method is build from the inside out - Gifted two absolute quality inside mids
2012, midfields taking shape, been drafting inside mids for a few years now, need some outside class and xfactor - come on down Lachie Hunter.
2013, set for smalls, desperately need talls at both ends - Z Cordy for CHB and Foster for FF/CHF.

Gotta admit we've had it pretty good there!

I think the more ideal scenario would be to play 2 of Roberts/Roughead/Talia (Lever/Durdin/Goddard/McDonald etc) on the bigger blokes, Cordy as the 3rd tall and if need be Wood as the 4th tall. I haven't been overly impressed by Cordy when played on the bigger blokes, I think he's more of a 3rd tall rather then a genuine KPP.

I'm beginning to see the name MacDonald pop up as a player we may want.

Is he a tall forward or back? Please tell me more about him, and where he might go in the draft.
He is a tall defender, has played a little up forward
http://www.therebels.com.au/news.html

was in the TAC team of the year
Won his teams best and fairest
Won the Morrish medal for the best player all year

kept a lot of the best KPFs in the TAC quiet

seems like a real bright kid to

Tom Macdonald's little brother. Very similar apparently. Very athletic key defender who's had an excellent season. Rising up the draft boards at present. Likely to go in the second round.

IMO getting another 1-6 pick or uptrading our pick 5/6 will be too hard or too costly.

However, IMO a pick in the 15-20 range could be really useful for someone like MacDonald - how could we get such pick?
Jones, Higgins, Minson, Cooney. We have plenty to work with.

Thanks for the replies. Looks promising and could go earleir than thought.

Why isn't he mentioned alongside Lever, Durdin, Marchbank (SP?) and Goddard?
because he is more of a stopper/less flashy I suppose?

very skinny to, but a few of those are pretty skinny
Marchbank is pretty filled out though

The only problem with that is our dreaded "dud brother" curse.
If we take him, the poor guy will be instantly doomed to be not as good as his brother.

and what if Tom McDonald is the dud brother? :p Would say we've done alright for ourselves

Have you seen Tom McDonald play? If Oscar was the "dud" brother he wouldn't even be getting a game at TAC cup level.

Most Melbourne fans have heart in mouths whenever TM gets near the ball

and what if Tom McDonald is the dud brother?
Never happens. How long is the list now, 10, 12 players?
Everitt, Talia, Sexton, Bowden, Rawlings, Power, Basett, etc etc

bit harsh to say Talia is a dud just yet
Lighten up.

The issue is that, almost without exception, we have always taken the player who is the lesser bother - and he is nowhere near his brother's level.
It's our curse, dammit.

I am lightened up ;)

hopefully this isn't the case with Zaine Cordy
because he'd have to be pretty damn bad to be the dud brother

Yeah I agree. Will be really handy to be able to play him on a small or tall if desperate, and let him rebound a bit too. Will just be interesting if he does end up proper KPD height (which is pretty likely IMO), did a pretty decent job on 200cm Wright, fair effort from a skinny 190cm bloke.

I know SCpaige loves to overrate the underagers and make them out like they're superstars. But anyway heres her write up for Oscar Mcdonald -

Pick 36: Sydney – Oscar McDonald

Position: Key defender/forward
Height: 196 cm, Weight: 88 kg, DOB: 18/03/1996
Club: North Ballarat
Projected draft range 50-rookie
Player comparison: Jackson Trengove

My biggest tip as this year’s monster draft bolter, Oscar McDonald is one of the better key defenders I am really bullish about in terms of advancing to the next level. He is tall and athletic, and also picks off numerous forward 50 entries with his tremendous ability to take intercept marks and rebound strongly. Best described as a general in defence, McDonald – the younger brother of Melbourne’s Tom – is extremely versatile as a defender, and, unlike most key defenders, he loves to back himself and use the ball by foot. He hits the ball flat and hard, and has a really nice turn of foot, being deceptively quick over his first few steps. The Rebels have also used him as a key forward, where he’s shown he can be equally as damaging. He has a fantastic leap, strong hands, really good work rate and rarely ever goes to ground. I’m a big fan of the way that he loves to play in front of his man, often a few metres ahead. Simply, he’s a super smart footballer, and led the TAC Cup competition for contested marks this year.

Player Update: He took home the coveted Coaches Award at the Morrish Medal and was named at CHB in the TAC Cup team of the year. His big name scalps this year include Darcy Moore, Peter Wright and Paddy McCartin. McDonald is making huge inroads to be taken inside the top 30.

Definitely sounds like one to watch for one of our (likely) second rounders.

Just say we get pick 26 for Higgins, and trade Jones for Carltons second rounder, going just by this mock draft, we end up with Wright, Menadue, Keitel, Vickers-Willis, Cordy and Foster. Swap Vickers-Willis for Macdonald or someone like DVR and this could be an absolutely huge outcome. With only giving up Jones and Higgins.
