Ah shiet that would have been bloody fantastic, two huge mobile 200cm lads holding down CHF and FF, both with the perfect skill sets for each position, one able to shift into the ruck and be more than competent.

Wright is a dream.... But really struggles when in contested marking situations. Until he develops strength, he will be more suited to a really high half forward role, where height means little and personally Grant would be better in that role.
After 3 preseasons, wright could become really dominant but a high pick for someone who isn't strong enough to play for 2 years, would really only appeal to GWS, StK, GC and us.
I would take him at 26, unless both Menadue & Cockatoo are there, as those boys are guns.

Even though Tom Lamb is said to have problems with his body language on occasion,
I think if he's there at 26 which could be a possibility due to the above, hope we have the balls to take him even though he doesn't 100% fit the character test.
He's bottom aged and super talented - could become the best player in this draft and being in a professional AFL environment could be all he needs to put it all together. Just my two cents.

Where do you see him going on draft day?
I'm seriously doubting anyone will pick him first round especially after reading that.

I wouldn't mind picking Francis Watson at a later or rookie pick. A medium rebounding defender who is solid at both those roles and plays taller than he is. Smart footy player who seems to have time with the ball and uses it pretty well. Having brought Darley and Biggs in in recent years, it would be good to be able to develop our own player in the role as I am not convinced either of these two will be able to develop into what we need. A really mature and decent person as well, which is a bonus.

"Despite standing at 186cm, his stunning leaping ability and elite closing speed allow him to blanket some of the best forwards of his age group.

Watson played in Claremont's colts premiership last season but split his time between Perth and his home in the Kimberley for much of the year.

AFL academies development manager Michael Ablett said settling in the one spot this year meant Watson's game had improved out of sight.

"He's obviously come from a fair way back and now he's obviously a little bit more settled in Perth," Ablett said.

"You find if things are generally settled and good off-field for the boys most of the on-field stuff takes care of itself.

"He just seems a little bit more mature and a little bit more stable and he's reaping the rewards on the ground.

"I think there's enough there for the clubs to do a little bit more homework on him as well.

"He shows you things at times which are AFL traits, so that's pleasing too."

Medium mid/forward; very quick; plays with a bit of urgency; not exceptional but tidy skills; kicks goals; dangerous anywhere inside 60.

Based on what I've seen, I remain very unconvinced on the bolded. I'd be very disappointed if we got him at 26/27.

Potential sliders i see as Top 20 prospects but could be pushed out are: Ellis, Marchbank, Cockatoo, Menadue, Lamb.

Agree with all those. Marchbank is the big one for mine.

Ed Langdon is a kid that has been underrated or just not rated at all around here. Very similar to Lachie Weller. He probably shouldn't but looks likely to slide into the late-second/third round+. If we took him at 26 or 27 I wouldn't be outraged. At 39 would be an excellent pick imo

Looks a nice prospect, but maybe a little weak in the contests? Will struggle in the AFL if he can't win ball.

Certainly has a lot of typical indigenous player traits and skills. The question would be whether we'd be interested in an indigenous player from a remote region when our past history hasn't been good in that regard: transition, away from community, tyranny of distance etc. Nice player though.

Yeah, It's a decent point. Especially now Stevens is our only indigenous player as well, so there isn't that support we might have had with Goodes and Jones being around too. However, it's not like he'd have the go home factor of other interstate boys. He was a boarder for the majority of his school days and he seems to have been comfortable moving to what would be alienating places. He probably wouldn't have the go home factor simply because he probably doesn't have one precise part of WA that he would call his home. I must admit bias, I've met the guy on the set of the 'War That Changed Us'. His comfortable and easy going nature would hold him in good stead to adjust to a new place and make friends.

I think a Blakely/Menadue combo at 26/27 would be great to top off the midfield with, then we can focus on some more talls.

By the herald sun phantom, it looks like he has Weller, Ellis and Blakely sliding out of the top 20. Any one of those I'd be very happy with.

Agree, Having thought about what I would like from this draft period is skills and speed + more skills and speed. We have 6 guys on our list who can play as either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd tall defender, (Roughead, Roberts, Talia, Cordy, Hamling, Morris) so I am prepared to pass on McDonald and fill other needs

This is my hopes for our draft.

Pick 26: Menadue - outside mid with huge speed, endurance and class fits the bill so well
Pick 27: Gore - Tested really well with kicking in particular and he is strong around the contest. Great burst of accelaration too and has played seniors for Sturt. My only knock on him is that he on occasion kicks blindly from stoppages, but he can be an upgrade on Jong as that attacking mid with better skills. Has several dangerfield traits. Ready to go at 183cm and 86 kilos.

If both aren't available then Ed Vicker Willis at 27.

Unless a slider comes to us at one of these picks then these are my hopeful picks to allow us to push Bontempelli to the forward line on more occasions as well as have a nicer balance of speed and skills in the middle to compliment our midfield.

Pick 39: Got Nathan Drummond here cause I think an early 40's pick won't allow him to get to us at 45/46. He is arguably the most ready to go player as an overager whom I can see playing 20 games in his debut year. Fits a need at half back or on the wing. Has great everything, really quick and superb skills.

Pick 45: Got Hammelman here to look at a long term CHF. Was talked about earlier as a top 25 selection but has drifted, he can be our project tall.
Pick 46: Mclean/Daniel/Lonie: Nice to get another small forward in the mould of a dahlhaus which we can find with this pick. Will push Hrovat and Hunter into the middle where they perform better rather than as a small forward.

Overall I think we have got so much potential with these picks with
1 KPF (hammelman)
1 KPD (cordy f/s)
1 fast inside mid (Gore)
2 outside mids with speed and skills (Menadue and Drummond)
1 Small forward

Would be the injection of speed and class to off set our losses and take us forward.

Im strongly against drafting any inside mids at all unless that man is Gore. Speed to burn and skills to match really hope we take him. He has a similar game style to Dangerfield (kicking technique has several similarities). He will push Jong for the griffen role from round 1 next season. Smokey for a high place in the R/S wherever he lands.
