While we should be trying to lure some of the 2013 free agents over, I certainly hope the club has had the foresight to look to next year, and make approaches to players entering free agency then.

As we're keen to trade our way back from our draft penalties, the 2014 free agents could be a way for us to get a deal at significant unders (but we need to go f*&$ing hard, and be ruthless). If we can convince a player to request a trade, and their club knows that they are free agents next year anyway we could force them into a deal that favours us, or risk the AFL's compensation system next year.

Who of the 2014 free agents should we be targetting?

I would say Sam Fisher, Harry O & Bryce Gibbs are worth a fair go. Maybe also Jarred Waite. Every one says Sam Fisher is done but I thought that about Goddard last season when he was at St Kilda & now he is having a stella season. It will be tough to get any one in free agency & I don't like our chances getting any one to be honest. We will have to see

If he was going any where it would be Sydney with his brother. But then again now with Tippett over with the swans Sam Reid may struggle to get a run & want out. I would be happy to take both haha, can only dream

Ben Reid seems like a pretty good Rutten replacement?

Why? There's plenty of brothers that don't play together. Can you see Joel leaving Geelong for WCE, just because Adam & Scott are there (or does having Troy at Cats negate that?)

Fair call, will just have to see. I struggle to see any top free agents being lured to Adelaide. But I have been wrong about Adelaide on a lot of occasions haha. Can only hope

Thats a pretty good list IMO (it's light on for superstar quality, but there's plenty of the next level down that are probably more attainable), and I agree teams should be looking to poach players before they reach free agency.

My interest would be in;

Gibbs, Simpson, Walker, HarryO, Reid, Mundy, Frawley, Thomas and Hurn.

There's others there that would be useful obviously but for one reason or another I'd either pass or I don't think they're removable.

Don't see the point in wasting our time with Fisher considering he'll be 32 years old next season. If we were at the top of the ladder and missing a player or two, maybe but we're not close enough for it to be worth it.

He'd be the Bock replacement with Talia being the Rutten one imo.

Think Reid would be a fantastic option, great defender, great kick and can play both ends of the ground very well as has been seen over the past couple of weeks.

Adam Cooney worth a go? Has shown some pretty good form in a pretty average side but yes he does have the injury concerns. never has anything nice to say about SA but neither did scotty Thompson when he was playing for Melbourne. Would you risk picking up Cooney?

Don't mind Mundy - he's always been good against us. Not on topic, but I see Tom Bellchambers is out of contract next year....we could dump Graham. This would give us another forward option, as he can kick a goal and is not bad in the ruck?

I watched the Bombers vs Port last night & was thinking the exact same. The guy can play for a big man, I wouldn't complain if the crows picked him up.

I'd be whispering in the ears of the bolded ones. Tom Williams is probably a bad idea but you just know we'll go there so may as well include him. The others are either terrible players (eg Leroy Jetta), too old (eg Swan), too injury-prone (eg Higgins), unrealistic because they won't come here (eg Malceski) or don't fit our needs (eg Priddis - we have plenty of slow midfielders already).

Number one target needs to be Ben Reid. He is absolutely elite and I'd be perfectly happy for us to pay him 1.2 mil per season if that's what it takes. Of course, it's a longshot because its unlikely he has any interest in moving to our city, but we have to do everything we can to sell it to him. Low rainfall Ben, hot summers Ben, great beaches Ben, FU Iced Coffee everywhere Ben, you will be Vice-Captain Ben. Or if he wants a role as a permanent forward and Collingwood would prefer to play him as a defender 95% of the time, we can simply say 'Its you and Tex up there Ben'. I'd love to think he can become the ultimate swingman depending on matchups and injuries, but just SIGN HIM UP then worry about that. Probably only a 10% chance, but we can't ignore it.

Obviously Gibbs is a more realistic target being from Adelaide, and being somewhat of a whipping boy in his time at the Blues etc, but realistically I don't think he'll make that much of a difference to our side. He's pretty soft too. That said, I'll be pissed if we don't get him if we miss out on Reid.

Lets be honest, we'll probably end up with Tom Mitchell and Trent West each on 450k a year, and then Triggy will abuse the members for not being over the moon.
