How much ruckwork do we reckon Hale wil be doing in 2014? The Big Boy has a huge tank and would be able to ruck a large portion of the game by himself, which means Hale can creep forward and stretch opposition defences. A forward line of Roughy, Gunston and Hale is still pretty darn good

My guess is a 65:30:5 split between McEvoy, Hale and Roughy. Will come down to match ups and clearance form during the match mostly. Ideally it will be a 85:15:0 split.

Hi guys, not sure where to ask but this seemed the most applicable thread. Is there any chance of Tim O'Brien playing senior footy this year? He was an outstanding junior player in my local area and I figure he will have a good AFL career but will he be a chance to break into a forward line minus Duddy Franklin?

Definitely a chance. Will be fighting for a spot against Grimley and Spangher primarily. This is of course assuming they want to go with the same amount of tall forwards. Given Buddy could play just like a smaller player as well they might go with another smaller forward. Perhaps Garlett. Pre season games will give an indication I imagine.

IMO Sydney and Freo are the only threats to us going B2B.


Unless they develop a key forward that can influence a game, Freo shouldn't be too much of a worry. Also being dependent on ageing players like Sandi, McPharlin and Pavlich doesn't place them in good stead. They have quite a few flash in the pan players like Walters and Ballantyne who you wouldn't want to depend on. Backline is suspect as Dawson and Duffield can be exploited by a powerful forward line.

Freo has a key forward who can influence a game - Matthew Pavlich. Pav had an achilles injury in 2013 which required surgery and effectively ruined his H&A season. He started 2012 with an interrupted pre-season yet kicked 55 goals in the last 13 rounds of the season and was the dominant player (6 goals) in the elimination final win against Geelong. He is fit and firing on the training track and should complete a full preseason in 2014.

Not sure how much you know about Walters, but one thing he is not is a flash in the pan player. 40 goals in 18 H&A games in 2013 and was very unlucky to miss out on AA.

My prediction comes from the coaching box. Due to the new interchange rule, and the fact all coaches will be analyzing our games very closely, I predict we will see many game plan changes. Clarko knows to keep ahead of the rest, he will have to be a step ahead, and go into games with a variety of changes that the opposition will not be prepared for. As for the other predictions, Hawks for the flag, and Gunston to win the Coleman.
