- Supercoach GRIM REAPER!!!!!
Having 3 top 500 finishes in the in the last 6 years (401st this year) I am going to offer some tips that I am going to take on board next year for my SC team and that the first year players can take some tips into next year too.
Probably my number 1 tip I am going to take into next year and try and follow is
1. To keep trades for finals.
Now I am not very good at doing this, shocking in fact but I think I am going to try and work out a system next year to spread my trades better and not trade my ar5e off!
2. Have good bench depth.
I improved this area of my team compared to last year when I had spuds like Crozier and Sexton on my bench who were done and dusted before I got to finals.
Brown and Vlastuin on my back bench and Mitchell and Cokehoon on my mid bench were great cover. Unfortunately I had heck all cover on my ruck bench and forward bench. This is what I will be working on more in 2014 to make sure I don't get caught out in this area as it cost me in the end in 2 cash league grand finals having no forward bench cover for Robbie Gray when he pulled out (still cursing about that one)
I think the best way to get good bench depth for next year is by starting the year with players that are in their teams best 22 that score well but are bargains (JJK, Robbie Gray) for example. Keep these guys till the end for bench depth and upgrade your guys that aren't long term stayers but will still make you alot of cash.
A perfect example of this next year is one Dwayne Zorko or dare of say it Shaun Higgins.
These 2 could make great bench cover if they start off cheap enough next year.
Its a big if with Higgins though as he is as durable as paper rice but I feel like his luck with injuries has to turn around eventually. Toxic will most likely shoot me down and disagree with this. LOL!
3. Picking a few more uniques
To separate yourself from the rest of the pack I think its important to at least have a unique on each line. This season I got Robbie Gray at $374,000 with my second last trade and he was awesome value. I like Gray as a player, he is great to watch. P1ssed off with him at the moment though for letting me down in the big dance (grand final) by pulling out and costing me a donut. I don't know how I even managed to win the one SC grand final against my best mate by 30 odd points but hey I'll take it.
4. Avoid the spuds
Its fraught with danger that when you see a player that is a bit of a ret@rd .ie. Duffield that you think you are getting a bargain from such a flog that's let everyone else down during the season but you think you know better and jump on him anyways thinking you have got a bargain. That's exactly what I did.
This flog I traded in for Turlich of all people thinking I had an "upgrade" What a mistake.
You need players with runs on the board, not flogs like this. Garrick Ibbotson is another tardo that stank like Spudfield but I am glad I didn't fall for the same trap twice.
Maybe I should just be saying avoid all Freo players as they are coached by Ross "Liar" Lyon. Having said that though I will most likely pick one Freo player next year.
5. Trust your gut instincts
If you have a good feeling about a player then jump on. Its better to not die wondering I say. Having said that though I jumped on Spudfield and wanted to kick him in the head and spit on him after the Saints vs Freo game. Seriously the ball goes down the Saints end 1 billion times and you can't score more than 48 SC points you freaking *******! Gees I hate you.

6. Don't try and win all your finals.
Yeah this one sounds bizarre but I am going by what happened to me on the weekend.
I tried to win all 5 grand finals I was in and even Gingy said to me to concentrate on my 2 cash league grand finals which I should of but I got too big a head and wanted to win all 5. LOL! As it turns out I end up only winning 1 out of 5 when it should have been 3 out of 5 (2 cash leagues) and that was playing with a Gray donut.
If I had of picked Pendles or Ablett instead of matching my main cash league opponents captain in Swan then I would have won that grand final and my other cash league grand final. I had it in my head that I could get the 222 points required by Goldstein and Griffen even by blocking my opponents captain choice in Swan.
I end up losing by 33 points and my other cash league grand final by 20 odd points.
So to cut a long story short it I should have concentrated on my 3 winnable grand finals and conceded the other 2 as it turns out I got smashed in those 2 anyways.
Moral of the story is don't get too greedy if you are in 5 league grand finals. As Gingy said to me on Sunday "win the grand finals you have a chance in winning, you can't win them all". Great advice there Gingy mate which I will take on board next year.
Almost forgot to say "heck you Griffen!" 70 odd points against Melbourne is all you can dish up? Really? On my never again list.
Which brings me on to my next tip
7. Create a player black list and DON'T PICK THEM AGAIN!!!!!

You know the aholes that let you down season after season but you are stupid enough to pick them up again next year? Yeah well DON'T!!!
I'll add a few names to my blacklist -
Spuddy Franklin
Spudfield
Broughton (Burn Man)
Higgins (I am toying with starting him next year though if cheap enough LOL!)
JPK (Handball king, gives me the absolute shits watching him)
I'll have more tips over the coming days, weeks, months to share with everyone on here in my quest for supercoach stardom next year and hopefully winning the $50K and joining such Imortal elites as Impromptu and Chewysnake.
* Note - In no way has what I wrote will guarantee you of a top 500 finish or the $50K next year. This is just my humble advice that I wanted to pass on to the newish type of posters on here that want to aim for improvement next year.
Peace,
Judd Magic
