5 years I think it was at the time but more money.

GWS had lots of cap space at the time & it was a shit year as far as available free agents go. If it wasn't Scully some other underseving flog would have had millions thrown at him instead. It was a unique situation with so many kids on the list & so few Snr players, much different to that at the Doggies last year.

??? Have you seen how many senior players are on our list right now? The parallel to the example you are trying to say is different is actually right there in front of you. We were putting money infront of various FAs because we had to pay it somewhere this year. Lonergan for instance.

Won't be picking Swanny, past his best and Pies might struggle. Rather take Bennell.

Has Hamling done enough to get rd1 game.
Yes, in fact he had done enough after NAB2.
He probably can't be considered a lock for R1, but would be desperately unlucky if he missed out.

I was not aware that Doggies had 30 or so 1st year players on their list at the end of last year.

Fev had 575 goals under his belt @ 3 goals per game before going to Brissy. Then 48 goals from 17 in Brissy that matched his career average. His goal kicking ability didn't cost him his career. He was still only 29 years old when he went to Brisbane. They should have got at least 3 or 4 years of elite goal kicking out of him. Alas, Fev was his own worst enemy. Could have had close to 1000 career goals to his name and been remembered as one of the modern day greats, if it weren't for his pea brain. He was worth the money Brisbane paid for him at the time though.
Yep, that's where a bit of due diligence comes in. Fev was a tool from before he entered the AFL arena. Blues did well to offload him.He sure set Brisbane back a few years. What a waste of money for them.

You are clearly just trying to pick an argument and I'm not going to waste any more time on you on this topic. If you can't see the parallel then you aren't looking very hard.

Dude, you're just being silly now. GWS only had like 10 non 1st year players in 2012 & 2 of them came out of retirement FFS.

You can't say definitively that he will bring anything in a few years. Could have a Gumbleton run with injury from here on and never realise his "potential". Or just be one of those kids who peaked in the TAC Cup & never take the next step. Regardless of what happens from here, no other team has ever paid anywhere near the overs the dogs have for potential alone.
How much is Jarrad Waite on at North? :p

How did Swan look last night ? Thinking I want to go back to Devon smith.
Much like the entire Collingwood outfit really, basically down on output and work rate. Perhaps it was just the preseason, but it was enough of a bad sign to see Swan leave my SC team. Perhaps he will come back before R1 though.

Do u know why tommy didn't come to the doggies?
Would've been a great get.
was it because the cats told bundy christensen he was going nth?

He turned down our offer to stay for less money at Geelong I believe.
We couldn't entice a FA to save ourselves with McCartney at the helm, not enough promise of good times in the short term. A few more performances like last night though and that might change soon enough. Just preseason and all that though.

Tom Scully and his dad say hi.
Let's be honest, both those deals were ridiculously stupid. Buddy's deal at Sydney could prove to be equally stupid if he gives the game away at the end of this year or next and the Swans are left paying him out each year.

I wouldn't worry about Swanny, he's not a known giver of f**ks when it comes to preseason

Anyone taking Swan out and putting in Bontempelli?

I'm guilty, looks to be a superstar and has a huge work rate.
I took Swan out for Bartel.

Bonts looked great yesterday but I have concerns over his consistency week in, week out. Swanny, well, he wasn't in my first team but squeezed in via lack of cash. Bucks has a recent history of playing him in stupid spots, cementing his reputation as a "not so good" coach (I'm trying to be nice)

Fair call around Bonts, but I reckon I'd rather keep the $80k up my sleeve instead of Bartel and use elsewhere.

Bartel is a gun though and looks like he'll get plenty of mid time in 2015.

Like where?? There isn't much up forward between 200 and 500k IMO. I'm looking for set and forgets up forward and in my rucks and looking to take risks in the midfield; Wines, Griffen, Danger, Parker. I'd much rather risk my SC season on those four than Swan or Bonts. Barring injury, Bartel will be in my side at Round 23. I can't say the same with Swan/Bonts.
