Davide Giugliano crashed yesterday (surprise, surprise) and has reportedly fractured bones in his back and unfortunately won't race this weekend. Randy DePuniet also - typically - crashed and sat out the afternoon session and Sylvain Guintoli is gently working back into things, still recovering from a big crash at the last test in Jerez.
Testing continues today.

And the final test has concluded. It's tight at the top!!

Giugliano is officaially out for the weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if a certain Australian multiple world champ - who will just happen to be at the Island on the weekend running a flat track event - is a ring-in replacement for Ducati...

Bayliss only got two or three laps due to mechanical gremlins.

Johnny Rea has the perfect start in his new green colours and grabs pole position followed by Chaz Davies and Leon Haslam in a red flagged superpole session. It has been a brutal day with lots of fast crashes including more highsides than I can remember for a long time, especially David Salom who had a horrible get off at turn 12 at very high speed. Bayliss qualified a solid 14th - only 1 second off pole - and was a victim of a highside over Lukey Heights in practice. Fortunately he walked away unharmed.
Tomorrow should be a ripper. The race win is wide open for any number of blokes, particularly with more hot weather and tire management. I reckon Bayliss is a good thing for a couple of top tens.

What a great race to start the year.. Rea by a whisker from Haslem and Davies.
Bayliss 13th was top ten the first half then condition probably came into it.. Metcher 14th

Wowee, great first race. As a team green fan, I'm slightly chuffed. It's also a really nice day down here, wish the crowd was bigger.

Great job by Cluzel in supersport. That MV sounds real nice. Sofuoglu did a good job to fight back from 18th up to 6th after running off track at turn one. Aiden Wagner and Glenn Scott had solid outings.

And Phillip Island does it again - produces three fantastic races (and the local support races were good too). It's such an underrated series. I can't wait for the next round in Thailand!

and the dickhead NSW government think they can try and steal either the SBK or Moto GP race for Bathurst.
The riders love PI,where as Bathurst on a bike would be an undertakers Christmas come early.

Troy Bayliss will ride again in the Thailand races on March 22

Just went to post this and you beat me to it. :D Rumour has it that he'll fill in until Guigliano has healed from his back fractures. He's been in full training, expect to see a top 5 capable Troy Bayliss at Thailand - a new circuit where he'll be on a more even footing.

Round two of the World Superbikes is on in Thailand. After the first day, Bayliss is 7th!
