A thread on the main board got me thinking (in before, that would be a first).

Anyway, it was discussing coaching contracts, it made me think about the season ending 2016 where we will likely hit a major shift.

- Brad Scott's current contract will come to an end.
- In the midfield Harvey (38/39), Dal Santo (32/33) and Wells (31/32) could all be retiring/retired, while Gibson will be 30.
- Our long-time full forward Petrie (34) will have hung up his boots you'd suggest.
- Our CHB Grima (31) would likely have retired while Thompson would be hitting 30.

While it's a no brainer that teams get older and lists evolve through the draft; it seems an interesting juncture for Scott's current contract to expire as we will be a very different team post this date and must rely on some young players, particularly key position prospects to come on in a big way.

Is 2016 the last hurrah for success with this group, or will the next generation led by Ziebell, Cunnington, Goldstein, Hansen, Thomas, Atley and Black keep us truly competitive without falling away?

Not overly concerned with the mids as we seem to have enough coming through to keep us going.

Forwards look ok with potentially Black, Daw, Taz, Wood, Brown, Curran developing.

The Grima Thompson thing has been worrying me for a few years now. Keys had moved on, we missed out on Bruce. Tippett seems capable but comes in as mature age already. Other than that our KPD development seems to end with Cam Delaney.

Some names ill be watching as the year progresses are;
Sam Durdin
Hugh Goddard
Jake Lever
Mac Bower
Tyler Keitel
Daniel Nielson
Sam Bevan
Caleb Marchbank
Cam Conlon

hopefully somewhere in the draft we can find room for a 190+ defender or 2.

More concerned with forwards and outside mids. Would have thought Hansen, Delaney and Tippett will be around for a while after 2016. We know the club rates Delaney, unfortunately he hasn't gotten on the park this year.

If I make a team of players who will be 30 and under in 2017 who I'm reasonably confident will be up to playing then it'd look something like this:

F Thomas _______ Nahas(Turner?)
HF Adams Black Wood
C Bastinac Ziebell Atley
HB Mullett Delaney McDonald
B Hansen Tippett McMillan
Foll Goldstein Cunnington Swallow
Int Dumont Garner ________ _________

To me the missing ingredients are the big pack crashing forward and the polished runners that can deliver the ball inside 50. Can Daw make the big forward position his? Can Harper and McKenzie be the guys on the outside that use the footy? Otherwise I think we've got enough guys that can do a role.

^^^ sorta sums up my earlier issue, Hansen, Delaney and Tippett or bust atm. 1 injury and we bring in what???? All eggs in that basket atm :(

Sitting on Daw, Taz and Curran id really hope 1 will take that FF slot.

Id be hoping Jacobs and possibly Hine could fit into that list aswell.

Maybe the Carslile fallout at * can continue, id offload a 1st rounder there.
700k for Frawely hmmm maybe.
Matthew Watson ....... meh maybe.
Sam Frost
not a lot on opposition lists to have a crack at :(

Patton would be great and he looks the most pissed off when they are getting pumped.

Outside run mids with speed and skill to replace boomer/wells/dal is a huge concern as well.

I hope

Hawthorn picked up Hill, smith and Hartung with late 1st-2nd rnd picks. We need to do the same...after we pick up a gun tall.

Then there's the added bonus of top 4 finishes (if we do get there), decent players will be targetable through trade and FA.

We seem to be right for inside mids and flankers. Garner Harper Turner up fwd. Atley mullet lmac down back.
Mckenzie I'm not sure of. Pace is the issue- see one sam wright.

Really need to improve on the top end players, I don't think the talent will be there if we just add to the bottom 15-22 of the game day squad. This, will be the making or breaking of the rebuild imo.

We've shown it can be done with Dal Santo, now we need to show it again like Hawks did with Gunston, Gibson, Hale and burgoune.
