Clark is our guy at pick 10 hopefully.
In that vid on the AFL website my ears pricked when I heard him say he only used his non-preferred foot against weaker teams as a junior. There's an arrogance there but a drive to improve and not be like everyone else. At such a young age I reckon that shows the qualities of a future champion.

Four months ago, I would have said LOB easily, Clark has closed the gap. Can have the occasional brain fade by foot, but generally very sound. Actually think he is better on his non-preferred left, has vice like hands and rarely fumble.

:thumbsu:

Also a willing 2way runner and tackler.

I'd happily cop Clark at 10. Been in my Top 10 since early Sep.

We still need more natural ball winners.
It's true we do currently, however if we project ahead to 2019, who are we dropping from the below hypothetical best 22 to make way for more ball winners, before we add icing?

Byrne Jones Plowman
Weitering Marchbank Docherty

Cuningham Cripps Williamson
Kreuzer Kennedy SPS

Murphy McKay Pickett
Silvagni Curnow #3

Macreadie Lang Ed #10

I noticed you put 3 and 10 in there. I'm hoping they're the ball winners. Murphy won't play forever and as much as I love him, at some stage I think we'll move past Ed in the same way the Hawks moved past Vandenberg.

Also mentioned in the interview how big a moment getting drafted would be for him and his family.

Shows he's got a supportive family and a good family kid. Seems to have good character which we know is important to SOS & Bolts.

True, add Fisher in who I forgot and we're not that far off I think. What I mean is, getting some icing at 10 wouldn't be a disaster imo.

I just feel that kind of player will require the kind of patience that I'm not convinced the club has. Until the building blocks are in place a guy like O'Brien isn't going to thrive. Could end up being another DVR.

Just how many building blocks do you want?
Too many posters bang on about how far away we are. We have the LIST to contend for the 8. Rate of development is the
over riding factor. Kennedy, SPS, Cuningham, Fisher, Lang, Polson and possibly Pickett and Charlie depending on roles are
all driven types in a hurry to forge a spot in our midfield, most closer than many think. (Cripps is already a force of nature,
Murphy silk, ED under rated and Kerridge(in particular) and Graham not so shabby role players.

Our defence is set, if not over stocked, and added Mullet as a point of difference (or outside mid).

Forward line will come together this year and next, but surely the pieces are in place. Delaying recruitment of O'Brien
type, athletic and silky distribution is a complete nonsense.

Maybe I don't have the same confidence in some of the names you have listed.
I'm not big on outside runners in general. They always get caught out in finals. You must be able to win your own footy. O'Brien may develop that. Thats a gamble I personally wouldn't take at 10.

It's just nice to list a side on paper which is young, but getting games under their belts and has so much upside.

I think Fisher deserves a place - he had an outstanding year as a first year player - I think he has earnt his spot more so than Cuningham, #10 and possibly Lang. I think Ed also keeps his spot in starting 22.

I'd be tempted to leave Willo back - just does not panic which makes him a great defensive prospect .... but push Byrne on to a wing - I feel like he has an attacking flare that could be pretty handy.

If Wright has another good year - still conceivable he's starting 22 in 2019.

... and also shows how much we need either McKay or Kerr to come on and become players ... still a little bit surprised that we didn't have more of a dip at Schache.

My preference at #10 goes:

1. Bonar - special. There's risks with the knee, but if he's got as much chance of doing it again as the next player, don't see why we wouldn't draft him if he's there. Just need to watch his highlights to realise his potential.
2. O'Brien. Was really highly-rated at start of year, such an elite kick and already big tank, which means he could walk straight into an AFL game and more than cope. Him and Williamson on the wings would be deadly.
3. Fogarty. There's potential for him being a bust here. He had a poor year, but Fogarty is strong, has X-factor and kicks goals. Getting him at 10 could turn out to be the steal of the draft.
4. Higgins. Pocket rocket, can kicks goals, we know he's extremely determined. Can't see him failing at AFL level.
5. Clark. Don't know why but don't rate him as highly as others. Should be a gun. Happy to draft him. At the end of the day if we get any of these players I'll be satisfied - but if we get Bonar, LOB or Fogarty I'd be ecstatic.

edit: I'll add that I'd probably take Brayshaw over all these players except Bonar, but doubt he gets to #10.

Say SOS rates Naughton in the top 5 players and he’s still on the board at 10. Would anyone actually be surprised if his name is read out? I’m really hoping that he is gone by 10 so this option isn’t possible, it also means an extra mid will make it through to 10.

Assuming LDU, Dow, Rayner and Cerra are all gone, my order of preference for pick 10 at this stage goes:

1. Brayshaw
2. Clark
3. Coffield
4. Stephenson
5. Constable
6. Fogarty

I wouldn’t complain if we picked up Bonar though. I can’t say I’m too keen on Higgins. Lacking in size, athleticism and his kicking seems to max out at about 45m.

Brayshaw,Stephenson and Fogarty no chance at 10.The others definetly.Just watched highlights of Bonar,he looks like a bull only query is the two knee recos.

in hindsight Fogarty has similar alarm bells to Francis imo
Let's keep in mind that Francis is only coming into his third season. Some players take a little more time, and he's had some injury issues that have clearly affected his development, not to mention how frustrating that would be over a (roughly) 30 month period.

I agree regarding Brayshaw but I think there’s enough question marks surrounding Fogarty for him to slide to 10, a very high risk high reward selection. Then I think Stephenson is one of the hardest to place of the top prospects, I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes top 4 and I wouldn’t be surprised if he slides a bit, most likely he won’t make it past pick 8 though.
