I am curious what both Fremantle & Carlton do with their second first round selections

Go for one safer option and one risky

Might just see Naughton & Bonar in the top 10 yet.

Pannalstaroz told me who Dalrymple likes via pm.
Don't need to tell me straight out.

But goal sense?
Pace?
Kicking skills?

Could cap off a decent haul at the trade period if we tick off some of those ?

Pick 9: Nick Coffield/ Jaidyn Stephenson
Pick 16: bid on Connor Ballanden/ Oscar Allen/ Joel Garner
Pick 82: Roarke Smith

Rookie: *massive stretch* Tom De Koning/Liam Ryan
Rookie: Ruckman

Now that we have a skyscraper full forward line, reasonable ruck stocks and the back line seems absolutely sorted, we perhaps need a smaller forward who works hard defensively. Jack Higgins starts to appeal if not taken by pick 16. Like that fact that he is a serious ball hunter - can always do with those on the forward line, so many forwards go missing if not being spoon fed.

After looking at our list, despite some here who will scream if we get "another freaking small" Our list is starting to look more top heavy

I think our two biggest list needs right now is...

1. A line breaking midfielder. We got guys who can carry the ball, accumulate, but we need a guy with size who can do the hard stuff, but more importantly break away from the centre and stoppages with pace, and deliver the ball by foot consistently well. Assume that will be with Pick 9

2. A small - medium forward. One who has a sense for goal, can get the ball, and apply good defensive pressure. Basically a classy upgrade on Honey, more consistent version of Picken/Smith. Still prefer Oscar Allen, but feel we need a small more

Who are the players that fit both profiles likely to be around our two picks that fit the profile?
Will be honest and admit my knowledge of this years crop is the least of previous seasons

1.
Coffield, Bonar, Brayshaw
Though Brayshaw does lack the size of the previous two
Of course there is Bailey but he lacks some size as well

2. Miers and Higgins would be the two that fit the bill there, I am far from sold on Higgins
No doubting that he has talent but I have personally always thought his best footy was through the midfield

I'd love Bonar and Miers, just can't see Dal pulling trigger on him at 16 though.

Are there any players around our picks who could be first year ready to mix it up in the AFL?

I think there’s a distinction between “going smaller” and “going small.”

We need to take non-KPPs in this draft, but I’d still be drawing the line when it comes to very small, sub-180cm players. We have far too many players that can’t hold their own in the air and it’s starting to really hurt us.

Just don't see him drafting a small forward with a first round pick, happy for him to prove me wrong though.
I'd be far more shocked if we recruited a key position player to be honest

Speaking of; I think Hayes would be a good fit for Carlton at 10

Possible long term Kreuzer replacement, lack of big sized forward targets.
