What about Jayden Hunt off the wing?

I think his defensive efforts are too good to just play him as a winger. He does find himself in the middle of the ground running towards 50 a lot anyway, likely because his man couldn't catch him from the backline.

This. He's probably one of our most accountable HBFs, but he'll probably be part of the rotation on the wing as well I would think. Hunt and Hibberd as our preferred HBFs with the mids who can play at HB rotating through there ideally when the opposition is rotating there mids up forward.

I wouldn't play him as only a winger, just route him between wing and half back

If we needed to change things up mid-game for some reason then sure. But we're picking a Best 22 here ... he's first picked on the HBF
The problem is you have Viney, Oliver, Jones, Lewis, Vince and Tyson all vying for the midfield.
They are all great centre square players and a couple (Jones & Lewis) could comfortably play on a HBF, but none of them are much good on a wing.

I reckon he could be more damaging on a wing and give us some much needed midfield pace, while dropping Jones and Lewis back to HBF where they can use their decision making skills

But does Hunt on the wing, and Jones/Lewis at half back leave us a defender short? Giving an opposition half forward more of a chance to win the ball, and therefore less of a chance for Jones and Lewis to use their decision making?

It's all healthy debate i suppose!

There are pros and cons either way. I'm not saying I'm right, just throwing up the idea.

I guess you are banking on going offense first by playing him up the ground, which is what Goodwin seemed to be implimenting last year

I'm actually very surprised that this option hasn't received more love, particularly given the number of options we have off the half back flank.
Launch factor far better off HBF than wing

Now to coax people into switching their vote from Oliver to Stretch.

An offer of a free hat perhaps.

Only if it's Andrew Walker's.

So very Melbourne, we get a kid who actually plays good footy in 1 person and the first thing we want to do is move him

It is hard to pick 6 mids, well 5 really as Gawn is the ruck. These days you need up to 8-10 blokes who can run through the midfield, i see Stretch in our best 22, if he doesn't start on the wing he will spend a lot of time playing there.

Plus with the way sides still rotate starting on the bench isn't the stigma it was in the late 90's even up to the mid 2000's

I mean for a period I sorta wanted him on the wing but he's so bloody valuable as a defender. He's brave, strong, good size and obviously fast as lightning. If Hunt decides himself that he's only going to play as a midfielder then we might have to move him but ATM he is a fixture on the half back flank.

Moving Hunt to the wing is like moving Hogan to the backline ... he's got some attributes that would be suited to the position, but he's got more in the spot he's already in, so why bother?
