Correct but ethnic in your native country?

Again I think that's just the slant that's been attributed to the term thanks to being used on wog-like immigrants here.

Really it just means a sub-group with a common culture, especially one existing as a minority within a larger cultural group.

Was Ross there? Why would the assistants leave at 3/4 time?
Bondy was there but RTB didn't appear to be there. The assistants that left were those that weren't on duty such as Anthony Rock and Eastaugh and who weren't there at the end of the game. Webby and Roger Hayden were on Duty and ably assisted Cam Shepherd and were part of the address of the players at 3/4 time and they didn't leave. Hope this clarifies the earlier comment about asst coaches leaving at 3/4 time.

And that stopped him running?
Allikat has that wrong. Balic had his bone graft operation around Easter last year or thereabouts (in the period last 2 weeks of April) and he has completely recovered from the wrist op and the wrist is now 100%. Two Tuesdays ago Harley didn't train as he had a high temperature and was in bed that was the Tuesday after the scratch match against Perth at Peel. Harley's running wasn't all that good a month or so ago and the training reports were correct in that regard. .

This sounds bad but I'm at the stage now where I'm disappointed when I hear Suban has played a blinder for Peel.

Because that means he's putting his name up for a recall yet I've pretty much given up on him ever being able to translate that form to the higher level. I hope at some point the selection committee bite the bullet and just resign him to the 'too good for WAFL, not good enough for AFL' basket that DeBoer found himself in last year.
I agree in some extend , but if d.pearce play poorly suban should have get a look to replace him. So far I find it weird that d.pearce and Dawson the only two that not dropped to play wafl . suban might not have d.pearce pace but might bring different value to the team. When everything try ,if suban still can't perform in Afl then people can write him off.

Have I missed something in his 100 chances to impress that you've seen?

Not really , I happy tucker and Langdon keep him out of the side .

And they should;

B: Spurr Collins Jonno
HB: Weller Hamling Sutty
C: Hill Fyfe Hill
HF: Tucker Ape Langdon
F: Walters McCarthy DP
R: Sandi Neale Mundy

Inter: Blakely, Crozier, Kerstin, Ibbo

Emerg: Griff, Sheridan, Suban, Tabs.

(I'm hoping that Ape was just a touch sore and there's no major damage.)

He (Suban) may get the nod ahead of Croz though?

All depend on next week match against East Perth , I think Ross will be there to watch and sherriden might have a good game. I prefer croz but I stop question Lyon selection now . I am also surprise with the speed of grey had in last quarter , maybe ross know something we don't by mentioning him, really caught my eye that he don't have a bad kick in the entire match .

Oh piss off, Suban is a star and deserves to play at least 22 games in the seniors this year. His scrum is invaluable and takes one for the team when some muppet feels the need to bite one of our players ;) And you can never have too many left footers in a side.

On a serious note, it's disappointed Croz and Sherro just can't seem to take that next step and cement a spot in the seniors and at least play consistently at WAFL level. If a decent trade offer is made for one or both this off season, I'd jump at it. Croz and Sherro and a third rounder for one of St Kilda's firsts

Some of the other guys have covered the game really well, but I thought I'd add my thoughts as well.

I walked away thinking that is as good as I have ever seen Peel play, particularly the second half. Their run and spread was good, and for a WAFL game the kicking was pretty good overall. The really good thing about it for me was that it wasn't just the Fremantle guys holding it together, a lot of the Peel guys played really well. Standouts for me among the non-Dockers were:
  • Brad McGowan - good size, got into good positions and kicked a nice bag of goals. Also looked OK when he went into the ruck for a spell.
  • Traye Bennell - played in the midfield and I thought he was very good. Not blessed with the speed of Harley, but ceratinly has the footy smarts and skills to make it at the next level.
  • Calvin Thorne - has really bulked up this year - probably pushing 50kg now. Did some nice things and is now a pretty handy WAFL player, but I doubt he has what it takes to make it at AFL level.
  • Blair Bell and Milward did some nice things. Jetta and Ugle were quiet in terms of goals, but both applied good pressure.

Of the Fremantle listed guys:
  • Suban - Did really well, used his strength to get free and delivered some beautiful lace-out passes. My question mark is whether he will be able to break free of AFL sized bodies in the same way and I think we all know the answer to that. (Sorry lw11) :$
  • Apeness - Took some really good pack marks, ran hard all day and rucked really well. There was a noticeable difference in our midfield output when he was there and I notice he is using his weight and jump much better than I have seen in the past. Probably the best I have seen him in the ruck and I'm not sure who the West Perth ruckman was but he was a big lad.
  • Balic - Has really bulked up nicely and played a strong inside game. Probably tried to break the tackle too often and this will get found out at AFL level, but really strong game from him. His awareness is very good and he tends to take good options more often than not.
  • Grey - I joked at half time that Brady was best on ground when in actual fact he had a pretty poor first half. Second half, and in particular the last quarter he was spectacular - broke through tackles, ran away from congestion and some of his long kicks to the advantage of the forwards were as good as it gets. He also snapped an opportunist goals, so maybe he is auditioning for Ballantyne's spot. He certainly has the speed and hardness to have a few small defenders looking around for him, and has shown that he can snap goals when they are there.
  • Crozier - Played the majority of the game in the midfield and didn't have a bad game, but for mine he was not one of our better players. We know he has a lovely raking left foot, but for some reason he seems to rush his kicks too often and misses targets. He also had the opportunity to snap a couple of goals and I don't think he got any - at least one he should have gobbled up. I would leave him at Peel for the time being until he shows a bit more.
  • Cox - Took a couple of nice marks, and flew for a real screamer at one stage (didn't come down with it unfortunately). He kicked a couple of goals, and while his kicking style looks awkward, it seems when he has time he is quite accurate. He is a good size, and I think there is a lot to work with there, maybe we will see him in the first at some stage this year?
  • Collins - First half I was really disappointed with Sam's game, he seemed to be out of sorts and was led to the ball a lot. However in the second half he settled down, played his man rally closely and beat him soundly. Maybe he got a rev up at half time or something, but it was definitely a game of two halves.
  • Duman - This kid is deceptively strong, and laid a couple of crunching head on tackles. Seems to have good awareness and takes good options, in my mind a bargain for a rookie pick.
  • Strnadica - Showed the odd glimpse of what he might become, but he is a long, long way off AFL level at this stage. When he went into the ruck he was pushed out way too easily and we lost momentum whenever he took over. Well worth giving him his two years to see if he can develop, but I would not like to see him up against AFL sized bodies this year.
  • Hughes - Huge disappointment for me today, and I am a bit of a fan. He showed a complete lack of awareness at times, and was run down several times, or had his kick smothered because he took too long. He is a good intercept mark, but he is not a natural footballer. He makes Ibbotson look like a superstar, and if he can't improve his footy smarts this year I think he is gorn - we already have enough defenders who can't make good decisions.
I hope I covered everybody off, if not they mustn't have made much of an impression. :).

It was a great day down at Bendigo Bank stadium and I would definitely recommend it as a day out when the season starts. Peel are getting a bit of a buzz around them, and the more of us supporters we get there the stronger the club will become.

Not sure if serious, but I laughed. Good to hear though and also McGowan who was tried a fair bit last year but IMO wasn't much chop.

Dudley's summation was pretty spot on as i was at the game but he is having a joke about Calvin. i guess Calvin himself would have wished it to be true.@dudleydocker

Jokr aside ,I am confident to said what sean Darcy lost is > what Calvin gain.

I think that Suban actually needs to play differently at wafl level than he does at the moment because when he comes back to afl level he still brings the mindset that he is going to break those tackles. My suggestion is that he should adjust his game to being more outside, disposing of the ball before being tackled, not trying to barge his way through, not jumping on a ball with the idea that he is capable of getting it out. He is simply not able to do that at the next level, so don't play that game at wafl. He does have some afl qualities and with a different game style maybe he has something to offer.

By the way thanks to you and the others for taking the time to report.

I fairly much agree with you. I think Suban needs to play WAFL for a while and recall any natural footy instincts he has. Playing the way he plays he has no future (I hope).

The WP ruckman was most likely Seva Mozhaev - 208cm, 105kg.

Can confirm it was Seva and he was useless as usual (unfortunately). Anyway as the thread is about peel, I can say that whilst there were only glimpses, Brennan Cox is clean above his head and could be a very astute pick up.

From all the reports I'd have Grey in for Ballantyne. I'd have Grey in anyway. He's one of those guys that sets the standard for effort and attack on the contest. If we we can carry Suban (who is no doubt who will actually get the selection) why can't we try Grey for a few games?
Problem is he is still rookie listed, compare to last season he is on the main list. Based on effort and intensity I will consider grey 100% .
