Was a wakeup call for me when some of my teenage students asked me "do you remember 9/11 happening... what was it like at the time?"

I think it's our moon landing "I witnessed history" moment.

The main point I was making, and I guess I didn't make it too well was that the team make ups weren't as specifically the defs vs the maybes.
Guys we're in different teams at different stages of the game both weeks. Attitudes and efforts were tested and not just for the youngsters. I don't see that as a bad thing. I think it's s good thing.

Claye and a trainer walking off field at 3/4 time with one boot in hand. Not limping, but still makes me hold my breath. Please let him have one year injury free.
Needs to be given the flick this year if he breaks down again. Not good cos we want him there for his brothers sake too but enough is enough he'd be holding up a spot.

If it is Close and Schache up forward, and assuming we have a third tall in Walker who can also relieve in the ruck, is it a choice between McStay and Hipwood for one of the key defensive roles? I just can't see them all fitting into the side at once. Or is it a choice between Walker and Hippy?
Hipwood won't be played in defence

Eagle surprised me, in that, he looked like he deserved to be there. The upper body development of Close was amazing, a reward for a lot of gym work in the off season.
Being that he has ruptured an acl previously I hope he is not too heavy set at this point. But I did see some pics and the bloke looks massive! Given that doesn't affect his knee then big thumbs up!!

There is no better player with ball in hand at the club...superb disposal.Another Gary Pert.
Cant believe I'm seeing the words superb disposal and Gary Pert mentionde in the same sentence as Daniel McStay. Jury is still out for mine. Has ability in the air but gets his hands on it and drops too many. Then when the ball hits the ground he is too slow and doesnt show enough urgency.

Be very happy for him to prove me wrong as he shows glimpses of talent. he's best up back I think.

Cos he's a gun forward and that's what we have him for. He has no prior experience in the backline in his junior days

Hipwood was named in the U18 All Australian back pocket in 2015 after playing in defence during the champs so he was always considered for any key post.

Stand corrected just read an article saying he's played both ends as a junior, but I still think he will only be used as a fwd. McStay would be the one to switch.

Yeah true I just read this too he's equally happy at both ends as a junior. I don't think he will be up back though. In his limited time he actually looked more comfortable up forward than Schache. McStay to siwtch if any.

Our boys have a lot to live up too with the girls going so well..

..hoping it gives them extra incentive .... or they will be laughingly ridiculed about the girls being better than they are.

BRING IT ON!!!!:D

I couldn't agree more MM. if they take anything away it should be the never say die attitude the girls are displaying.

I would hope the mens have enough incentive to play well without not wanting to be shown up by the ladies team.

Well, yes......but the added incentive of pride on the line between the two teams, should be a pleasure for us fans to sit back and watch, hopefully.

..and we know how complacent the team got last year, incentive just wasn't there.....so if it comes down to the pride of the men's team against the girls, well I'm all for it..

Whatever works or why doesn't matter....it's the end result, as long as there is a W after our games.

Everyone is kinda right regarding Hipwood's positional changes throughout his junior days. Prior to the u18championships in 2015, Hipwood only ever played wing/forward. It was Adrian Fletcher (u18's coach) who saw the benefit in moving him back at times throughout the championships which showed his versatility at either end. Hipwood himself has said in the media that he enjoys saving a goal just as much as kicking them.

Have a feeling in these old bones that this is going to be the year of the Lion..

..and LionHearted just won a maiden race at Werribee..

..carry on.
That didnt work for me with Grey Lion in the Melbourne Cup.
