With Doch going down, defence will be very interesting this season and will make or break teams

I actually think we have a great selection of players to pick from

My top 6 prediction: (avg)
- Yeo (100)
- Laird (100)
- Hibberd (100)
- Williams (95)
- Ellis (95)
- Lloyd (95)

Hurn (99.94)
Yeo (85) - has now well and truly sucked everyone in and after becoming the most heavily selected starting defender in SC history will revert to superflog.

Compared to Hurn everyone is a superflog.

Can definitely see myself starting with Laird, Hibberd & Z. Williams as my top 3 defenders.

Then possibly a J. Thurlow at D4 now that he's had another pre-season (fingers crossed) since his knee reco and will be a lot more confident + Mackie has retired so he can take his spot.

Then rookies :thumbsu: At the moment I'd probably have D. Mirra & A. Johnson as my two bench players, D5 & D6 I'll decide eventually.

I'm certainly not selecting Yeo at his price ......Shaw burn't me, and there used to be an unwritten rule about defenders over $500K

Just looking at Yeos finish to the season, when Simmo messes with his position again
like he did last year I see a 90-95 average, he is a bit overpriced...

8 100's in the first 11 games, 2 in the last 11 after some positional change
and Simmo will mess around with his position this year considering he is looking for midfielders...food for thought.

I think what you are trying to say is...

Hurn > Yeo

Isn't that rite FatPizza

I actually had Burn...clears throat...Hurn in my first SC year 2014?

He wasn't to bad a pick back then, better than Newnes IIRC?

Sydney Kicker thoughts? (post of the year IMO... Newnes = how did it go again?)

I'm not keen on Yeo or Hurn to be honest. I really think you've hit the nail on the head with Yeo - his scores seem really role dependent so he's too much risk for his price. For me he's an upgrade target.

Hurn is a no, always been 5-10 points per year off true premo status.

Newnes also a no for me. As I always thought, no matter how many extra kg's he's packing, like most Saints players named Jack he rates about a -6 on Mohs scale.

Thats the one!! Classic SC Gold!!:thumbsu:

Ryan Burton D1. Gun
Is in my team currently and could be a great buy at 460k and a decent unique player down back as i don't see many jumping on him this season but i reckon he in for a ripper SC season.

Yeo is over priced and will get him when he drops as an upgrade target.

Hibberd the only lock for me. everyone else is wait and see.
my Hawks bias has me looking at Burton and Sicily.

i stacked the backline last year and got burnt so will probably go in light...rookies permitting.

Hibberd and Simpson i am tossing up between and cannot choose ( and no i cannot afford both! )

Simmo is in right now only cause Doc is out for the season and Simmo will see a massive increase in possessions and is a smart user of the ball.

Only DEF locks for me are Simpson and Williams. Without Doc I think Simpson will seagull a few more points. Wilson leaving GWS and Williams natural improvement should see him hit genuine DEF premo numbers.

Waiting to see on Laird and Hibberd, the arrival of Gibbs who may play a HB role at the Crows may impact Laird a little and for that price I'll wait and see. Lever now at the Dees may effect Hibberd's role, not sure how many intercept marks Hibberd took last year but that's Lever's bread and butter. I'll wait and see how they structure up in the preseason.

Yeo's role with the retirement of Mitchell and Priddis may change which has effected his scoring in the past. For that price I'll wait and see, probably an upgrade target. Hurley is a bit pricey for me with some doubt on Hooker playing forward or defense it's another wait and see how they line up in the preseason.

if anything i think Lever helps Hibberd.
once he takes the intercept mark Hibberd is the guy running past for the handball or standing by himself as a sideways kicking option.

its hard to go past Simmo, especially without Doc there. proven SC pig and incredibly durable but age has to catch up with him some time...doesnt it?

Set and forget. ;)

Current starting preferences are Hibberd, Simpson and Z.Williams. Can't see any of these guys sliding. Yeo and Laird will be safe picks for top 10 defenders but do agree they will be available cheaper during the year. Need to see what role Yeo will be playing and what affect Gibbs will have on Laird.

Haven't seen anyone mention Roberton, I know he might running around a tad lighter but he does play a SC friendly role and had a solid 2017.

Probably a likely scenario re Hibberd/Lever but those intercept marks are gold in SC. Not sure intercept marks have ever been Hibberd's strong suit so may be a moot point. Where's a Dees supporter when you need one? Can't be in the snow already.

Looking at Burtons last few games of 2017 ......he scored extremely well ...did he get thrown into the midfield & is he likely to play more midfield this season?

ATM he's my D3

I love the look of Zac Williams! I think he'll average around 95, but I believe he can easily go 100+

He's the main man coming out of the back for the Giants.

He will no doubt be in and out of my side
