Would anyone like to see us upgrade pick 18 with say the second rounder we got from Gc next year and would it even be worth it ?
The thing is finding a buyer. I can't see any teams up the order that might be motivated to split their pick ver two drafts.

Hey good folks of the Brisbane board.
I landed your club on our board PD. (Glad I got a club I liked)

I tried my best with the picks below, I hope you're at least reasonably happy.

* didn't pick Berry as I rate players who have skills.

Sam Sturt (Dandenong Stingrays, forward, 188cm, 79kg)
It's no secret that I pop my cookies over this lad, I picked him as he was best available in my eyes.
So many attributes I rate, such a small amount of experience in the game. This kid will be special.
Very happy to land him with my first pick in the draft.

Jacob Kennerley (Norwood, outside mid, 184cm, 76kg)
Outside midfielder who runs all day. Nice skills and poised.
Again I went for best available and I think this kid is pretty much a sure thing and will be at lease a solid player.

Marlion Pickett (South Fremantle, midfielder, 183cm, 85kg)
I wanted a level head in the backline, someone to take over the Hodge role, someone with talent and I got that with Pickett.
Plug and play in probably Brisbanes only area of need. Very happy to take him here.

Connor McFadyen (Wilston Grange/Brisbane NGA, midfielder, 190cm, 81kg)
Matched bid...A big, athletic and strong inside midfielder with lots of upside.

Sam Sturt appears to have a similar playing style to Karnezis. Medium half forward who is clever around goals.
He would want to work a lot harder than Karnezies ever did though!

I didnt say that andrews gardiner and witherden arent good enough to win a flag... i said our current back 6... the nucleus is gardiner witherden andrews and now perhaps adams. We need to add speed and more adaptability off hb. Daniel Rich is not a top 5 half back in the comp i dont care what the stats say. He misses tackles, zones off when he shouldnt, doesnt have defensive presence and os slow. Rich's stats r up because he gets fed the ball as our user off halfback. He is not a genuine half back and i cant understand why they have persisted with using him there when he could be a lot more dangerous up the ground. And Hodge is nearly done. This is his last year coming. Make no mistake Hodge was our 2nd best defender this year and in our top 5 or 6 players for the year. Hes is a gun but the plan is to retire at seasons end and unless we find a really good addition with speed off half back we r going to struggle in 2020 in that position.
Yeah, i probably read your comment as individually not collectively. And your right as a group the back 6 arent ready yet to win a flag. I do however dissagree with your assessment of rich. There wouldnt be a sm/med defender in the comp that doesnt zone off on occasions to cover a half kick in an area to see it then go over his head deeper or vice versa. Especially when a zone defence is new and still being worked on. Its a criticism easily made of any defender and often made easier by the lack of defensive run by players up the ground exacerbating the situation. You have to admit we do lack in that area. His clearance work by hand or foot and linking run/kick out of the back 50 is generally pretty good. I also agree that id like to see him up the ground a bit more bombing those long goals outside the 50. Although there were occasions this year when i thought, gee that left foot isnt as long as it used to be. I think as our defensive cohesion improves not just with the back 6 but also with those fwd we will see a much better dan rich in that defensive role. I also agree we need an adam saad style player, fast run from defense, to be the final piece of the puzzle down back. I dont think we will struggle, as you suggest, without one but like you i dont think we can take our game style to the next level and contend for a flag without one. Big opportunity for cox and allison next year to fill that void and i do hope we draft a kid with those attributes. Otherwise id have a crack at young ed richards at the end of next season. Was really impressed with the run and defense he gave the doggies. I also see our defensive stocks of adams, skinner, payne, n robbo even eagles n hinge providing good depth over the next few yrs. Probably some ive missed. And who knows what the irish lad will provide. All in all i dont think we will be in dire straights when hodge finishes, plenty to be encouraged about.

Didn't know Connor played for the mighty W G Gorillas. Their ground is about a 2 minute drive down the road. How often would he have played at that ground?

Not sure if this is a re-hashed old article or something new. But anyway, FWIW we should be looking for a key forward with our first draft pick this year according to Matt Balmer. Not sure I recall Noble saying anything along those lines over the last couple of months, but I might be mistaken.

Ridiculous. No tall you draft will help your structure. Especially late in the draft. Will take several years.

Everything I've seen and read about James Rendell indicates he'd be a great project pickup with a late pick. A midfielder who's gone through a growth spurt but retained the midfield attitude and skills; 198 cm and still growing; stepped up to maturely handle the Dragons captaincy mid-season; great Fitzroy and, to a lesser extent, Bears pedigree; and apparently eminently coachable. Long-term, for sure, but surely worth dropping a father-son on him for a late pick rather than another unknown with no ties to the club.
Just saying

Very strange take from Balmer. He makes note of the fact we played 3 talls in the forward line for much of the year but argues we need another for stucture? So four talls required? Maybe he feels if we plan to play 3 talls we should look to add some back up/ future replacement. A quick look at our list might have been worthwhile as he would note we took 3 young key forwards last/ mid year (Ballenden, Wooller and Fullerton) and have Walker and Skinner potentially as well. Hmmm not the best draft needs opinion I've read.

Agree, I read a fair few of these articles & think that teams that are not from AFL states are pretty much after thoughts for a lot of the column writers (I think that's a better term than Journalist). Not many seem to do their homework.

Now that the Draft Machine is up (and working again) on the AFL website, there is actually some footage of Tom Berry to look at. I haven't been entirely won over by the sentimental factor, but he looks more of a prospect than I'd expected with his draft ranking. Definitely has more speed than Jarrod.

he's better than mcfadyen but I understand he hasn't exactly had a great year. Still should be taken around that 30-35 mark IMO even given his poor year. People with limited knowledge of the game get their info off blokes like KM etc. who while I appreciate their effort and commitment to draft watching aren't club scouts. Then come the melts on draft day because X,Y,Z (insert favourite player) wasn't taken by us.

I'd be interested in knowing whether you have actually watched McFadyen or Berry play live, and if so how often.

Certainly doesn't sound like you much first-hand knowledge about Berry, at least.

Are you suggesting that your opinion on draftees is better than the average poster, and, if so, on what basis?

I'm not a keen draft follower but I've locked in on Duursma as the one I want with our first pick. Not too many others that have been suggested at our first pick sound as well rounded a player as Duursma is currently.

Conspiracy theory time...

Jarrod has vacated no.13 because his younger brother Tom (who wears 13 for the GWV Rebels and Vic Country) is a lock.

Conversely, Jarrod moved to no.7 so he could be between McCluggage and a free number (no.8) for when his younger brother is drafted.

I'm interested how did you come to this opinion as I'd speculate 99.9% of BF posters are not club scouts? Few options to choose from below.
1. Reading opinions of blokes like KM
2. Watching a 2min you-tube highlights video
3. Traveling from Canberra weakly and watching both McFadyen and Berry personally
4. Option 1 & 2
5. None of the above
6. I'm just another 99.9 try-hard per-center
7. I'm being shouted down
8.

Yes I only know what I read on BF, but have developed a strange attachment to Duursma as well. I like what has been written about his character.

Can’t wait to we actually select players so i can search Utube with purpose looking for highlight clips.

Plus he supports the Lions

I'm kind of hoping for;

1. Duursma
2. Outside pace and/or skill
3. Sparrow or Berry or another genuine mid
4. McFadyen
5. Coleman or potentially Rendell or a ruck

I think McFadyen will slide. Similar to Allison while his strengths are tempting the deficiencies in his game are too large to ignore. Also has the foot injury delaying his pre-season.

Yep. Really hoping that McFadyen makes it past 35. I'd say it's probably a longish shot (maybe 60-40 against?), but definitely a chance.

I'm still big on Sam Sturt at our first. Probably a long shot since he isn't really a midfielder. Still my number one choice though.

Disclaimer: Ridiculously amateur youtube draft watcher. Listening to my opinions is probably to your detriment.
