Were offically a team of never haves.

Corey ellis
anthony Miles
And George horlin smith
All confirmed trades to be ticked off by the AFL when trade week opens

by Jake Niall of the AGE
Corey Ellis was a highly rated talent at the 2014 Draft and Richmond have been excellent at recruitment over the past 12 years to be in the position they are now. He would be their biggest disappointment since Tambling, other than the fact that they can afford to move him on and still get something in return.

Anthony Miles would be in most clubs' top 22 and is only leaving the Tigers because he is out of contract. Comes as the Liston winner for best player in the VFL. He had already visited the club and met had his interviews. Quality person and player.

George Horlin-Smith would have been on the Suns radar during the 2010 Draft. He came from Sturt in the same year as Sam Day, which is something I like to observe - Richmond have 7 Northern, 4 Calder, 4 North Ballarat, 4 Western players, which is 40% of their list from only 4 regions - and Charlie Ballard is also from Sturt.

Certainly, you can look back at that Draft and say the Suns should have picked Gaff instead of Bennell, or Heppell over Caddy, but judging 17 year olds is a tough business. Interestingly, when you get to the middle of the 2nd round the 3 picks immediately preceding Gold Coast's pick #39 were Aaron Young, George Horlin-Smith and Mitch Hallahan. Depressingly, we then picked Jeremy Taylor instead of Luke Parker.

Australian reporting hogan to freo, may to demons and pick 5 to us

“Should Hogan agree to return home, the Dockers will have to give up a first-round selection to Melbourne in return, which the Demons would have to on-trade to Gold Coast to secure May.”

This has been reported before. I just think it is too convenient and there would have to be a complicated pick exchange before all clubs would agree, perhaps even separate trades. I'd want more than just a top 5 pick for May, so probably a future 2nd rounder would have to be forthcoming. The Lynch Trade is devaluing players and the Suns have to draw the line.

D

didnt he say we were getting pick 3 as a compo pick for lynch 2 weeks ago
Ben's referring to Gil's awkward turn of phrase

"Gold Coast have got 15 first-round picks on their list and they're going to get picks two and 15 this year if Tom Lynch goes to another club, which is I think accepted, so they'll get pick three as well. So there was a view that they needed some mature bodies."

If it was an accidental lapse and the AFL has secretly offered maximum compo for Lynch, then that is a huge win. Unfortunately, I just think Gil was drunk and minced his words.

I'd take that, I reckon. If May is keen to go I'd rather grab another top pick this year than next — bundle the SA kids together and make sure to grab Sam Collins as one of our mature picks. Nice enough result :)

It's an illusion that Suns can draw the line. The reality is that Suns are owned by AFL and whatever Gillon and co-idiots at headquarters want will happen. That's the reason why Suns will not match Richmond offer to Lynch even if they could possibly consider it.

Hey sorry to intrude, what do you guys think of Scott Clayton? The trade he did With West Coast last year was so bad in hindsite. And then he ends up on the Eagles payroll a year later.

Pot calling kettle come in Steve Silvanghi.
What was your roll at GWS Steve?

"Well l was tasked with turning Carlton into the GWS Blues before l returned basically "

THE AFL Commission today advised both the Gold Coast Suns Football Club and the Carlton Football Club they would each be provided with competition assistance, after making an application to the League under Rule 19.2 (Special Assistance).

At its meeting yesterday in Melbourne, AFL Chief Executive Officer Gillon McLachlan said the Commission had considered applications from both clubs and had determined each club required differing levels of assistance, after a detailed assessment of the core issues facing the two clubs, their separate strategic considerations, their opportunities for improvement and an examination of how their respective issues should be addressed.

The Commission's decisions were:

Gold Coast SUNS:

* The club would be provided an additional two category A rookie positions for the 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

* The club would have the right to pre-list three (3) players who have previously nominated or been eligible for the Draft or were previously listed with an AFL Club prior to the upcoming 2018 NAB AFL Draft (this right can be on-traded).

Carlton FC:

* The club would have the right to pre-list two (2) players who have previously nominated or been eligible for the Draft or were previously listed with an AFL Club prior to the upcoming 2018 NAB AFL Draft (this right can be on-traded).

Mr McLachlan said the Commission had accepted the recommendations put forward by Andrew Dillon (AFL General Counsel) and Steve Hocking (AFL General Manager, Football Operations).

Mr McLachlan also said that following discussions with both the Brisbane Lions Football Club and St Kilda Football club, with respect to the special assistance provisions, Hocking and Dillon had recommended that special assistance not be provided to those two clubs at this time.

"The review by Andrew Dillon and Steve Hocking of the submission from the Gold Coast Suns was strongly concentrated around the club's List Build and Retention history, its current TPP profile and an examination of the club's environment and culture around the playing list.

"It was their recommendation to the Commission that the Suns needed to be able to access mature talent coupled with a greater emphasis on Club programs and growing Queensland talent to generate sustained success," he said.

"For the decisions around the Carlton Football Club, the examination of the club's request strongly focused on its List Management and player age demographic, the development and leadership for its players and the club's player management and high-performance areas.

"Again, it was recommended the club needed to be able to access mature talent for its player list.

"In the case of both clubs, it is the AFL's view that the addition of 2018 player draftees, coupled with the current younger talent within both club lists, will be able to lift the clubs up the ladder through the next three years," Mr McLachlan said.

The Special Assistance rule for the Commission's decision-making reads as follows:

19.2 Special Assistance

(a) At the conclusion of the Home and Away Matches in each Football Year, the Commission may determine in its absolute discretion that a Club is entitled to one or more priority selections at the next occurring National Draft Selection Meeting. Such right to one or more priority draft selections shall be exercisable during the Draft as directed by the Commission.

(b) The Commission will exercise its discretion under this Rule 19 only in exceptional circumstances taking into account a recommendation from the AFL Executive, the recent on field performance of a Club and any other matter the Commission in its absolute discretion regards relevant.

On the latest Road To the Draft podcast Cal mentioned something like Corbett had 'nominated' us. I'm not sure if that's how it works, but perhaps he's told Carlton not to draft him? In any case that's a good get for us. Along with Collins if available, I would also take Pickett. But there's also guys like Maguire to consider.

Grigg an interesting call. An absolute gun at SANFL but his father is quite ill with a terminal disease. Unsure if he wants to leave SA.

So we have 3 state league priority picks.

Collins, Corbett & ......
Pickett? Grigg?

+ 2 extra rookie spots. Certainly going to help.
I hope we have a look at Tyler Keitel from West Perth - 196cm key forward 22 years old averaged 5.4 marks and 2.3 goals a game this year, after kicking 46 goals last year
