I grew up in Melbourne 34 years in a nice bayside suburb and moved to GC 17 years ago. I wouldn't move back to Melbourne if you tripled my wage. Most of my die hard Melbourne friends are plotting an escape and have had enough of the place. We should take that into consideration if we ever consider drafting kids from the GC. I’ve lived in Melbourne and Perth and I loved them both. Love visiting Brisbane. Stayed with a friend who lived on the river. It’s awesome. Spent a week on the GC and I just didn’t like the place. Hated it. Perth is much of a muchness to Adelaide. Find them very similar in many ways. Melbourne is just a great place to live out of uni. I can see why players wouldn’t come home from there. In a sense I am agreeing with your poorly chosen insult.
But the GC is a different story. You are drawing a really, really long bow here to suggest that the same reasons that keep our players from leaving Melbourne can even come close to applying to the GC.
Even if the GC community one day got behind this franchise, you are still coming from a long way back to even have the same appeal as Brisbane, let alone the Melbourne clubs that our players have historically stayed put.
Totally agree - I always believe you need big, bulky inside mids who by nature are slow. They can get the hard ball and flick it out to the pacy and flashier outside mids. We used to call them wingers or half forwards. I'll take a couple of slow insides that are in the side to get hard balls. We've tried it with a team full of of flashy outsides. We need a combination of both and it looks like we are on the right track.Fair observation - but how do they compare against a Sydney mid field of Kennedy, Hannebery ,Parker , Heeney, Zac Jones, Kieran Jack for instance.
Suggest the difference is not in pace - but relative strength.
We have long been dubbed a team of outside flankers - speed and flashiness with no physical impact.
Same goes for our mids - need to be stronger - not necessarily faster...

At their peak they were the poster children of tough and talented inside mids.So they are now old - what I was saying is in their prime they were never fast...but a brilliant midfield.

Could you please let us know how long ago you were on the GC, how long you spent and where you went. I've never heard anyone say that and l have dozens of friends and family from Melbourne and Perth.
I also have about 20 couple friends in Brisbane and virtually all of them would move to the GC tomorrow if not for work travel.
Bods can you please organise a tour of the real GC for this guy clearly he's yet to see it.

Leslie/Lonergan contracts expire Oct 31st so we will know shortly if they are staying/going and how many senior list spots are available.

2020? I like your confidence but... Nahhh!!!A looks like a potential crows forward line in 2020![]()
I just see Rankine as another Caddy in the making. He seems a footy bubble boy.
I think we will end up trading pick 3 & 24 to the Crows for 8, 13 & 16.
And maybe we are good chance to take 5 x S.A. lads?
2. Lukosius - Elite talent
6. Rozee - Versatility
8. Hately - Versatility
13. Valente - Leadership
16. McLennan - Loyalty
29. Pickett - X factor (if we are still keen)

Obviously haven’t been to St Kilda or FitzroyNo point eppo
They judge the Gold Coast by their buck's parties in Cavill Mall
I judge Melbourne by the dirty syringes in Footscray and Dandenong
Leave them to their urban decay
He is just afraid that Walker , Jenkins , Tom Lynch , Betts , Gibbs not getting any younger .2020? I like your confidence but... Nahhh!!!

Thinking a realistic trade of picks that would be fair if we were going to pass on Rankine:
3 and 29 for Port's 5 and 15
15 still has plenty of quality, starting to thin out a bit by 29

I like the idea of Pickett - thinking we could get him in the 40s if we traded down a bit to improve another pick. I'm an accountant by trade and nature - I love optimal valueI agree it seems to thin out at 29. I just kind of assumed that pick 29 could be Pickett. Are you not a fan of Pickett? Also could you then see Adelaide trading with St Kilda to get pick 4? SA boys go 2,3,4.
Drag a young indigenous player with a young family across the continent with little to no support group. Has Tim Kelly written all over it.Travis King reported on afl.com.au that the Gold Coast have shown interest in south Fremantle player Matthew Parker. Young family and apparently related to Marlion Pickett, could be a really good fit at the Suns
