Considering our recent results include draws with Thailand and Syria, there is no chance we can take Honduras lightly.
The CONCACAF teams are all at least the level of, if not better than many of the Asian teams we faced in qualification.
This will be a difficult route to challenging, but it's better than playing the USA, who on paper have a lot of talent to win a sudden death 2 leg playoff.

FFA aren't exactly flash with cash at the moment. Coaching at international is a different beast to club level. Can't dip in to the transfer market, challenging away legs around a massive continent.

Robbie Slater will campaign for his good friend Graham Arnold to make a return after his disastrous time as coach at the 2007 Asian Cup.

I wouldn't mind Ante Milicic as a fill in. As been assistant under Ange and at club level. Should have got the heart job but lost out in a jobs for the boys scenario to Aloisi. Respected him as a player.

If we make the World Cup it shouldn't be hard to get somebody better than an A-League campaigner for the tournament.

The US loss is as shocking as England vs Iceland. You're talking about a country of 1.4m people

Honduras are going to be a very tough challenge for the Socceroos over two legs. Honduras are infamous for their gamesmanship on the field and their fans off the field. Think Montevideo 2001/5 on steroids. Hope the boys don’t forget their ear plugs for the night before in Tegucigalpa & their shin pads for the match. Gonna need them, just as much as we need a loud, sellout crowd for the return match to bring us to Russia.

America is gushing over a 19-year-old wunderkind in Pulisic and we're still pinning our hopes on the forehead of a soon to be 38-year-old. It's wild.

I take it back! As long as Cahill can keep knocking it in the net with that glorious melon of his and gets us into WCs, he can keep playing well past the time it takes him to need a walking stick.

Holy s**t USMNT collapsing is so fantastic.

Honduras home stadium for the national team is actually in San Pedro Sula

Not the safest place in the world

No, no it's not. In fact it's probably right down the other end of the scale

I imagine it'll be like Uruguay but a bit worse.

Players will be spat on at airport. Hotel employees will probably try and feed them food to upset their stomach and ring the fire alarm at 3am the morning before the game. Fans at the stadium will probably throw stuff at them and the security will laugh about it

The US and probably Canada would've played many an away match in Honduras. They got through it. As well as all the other caribbean and central American teams.

lol, what is there to even be salty about (aside from the obvious that they lost?) There were no dodgy penalties, the player who got sent off deserved it as it was a clear second yellow and complaining about the pitch when we played on a cow paddock in Malaysia. How convenient though that they forgot to mention the reason it got to play-offs was from one of the softest pens you'll see.

Honduras drew 1 all with USA in Honduras then lost 6 nil away so the gameplan should be try and pinch an away goal then shut up shop and they'll fall apart in Aus

If Arnold is appointed coach at any stage then the country will lose a lot of supporters. Has to be the most negative manager to grace the local game. If people lose their mind about how Ange coaches then they will jump off cliffs after watching Arnold coach.

He has been and still is good for Sydney and is obviously a half decent manager but he would be a bad version of Verbeek.

how can soccer be taken seriously? I have tried to watch it, blokes rolling around in agony with cramp, stretcher coming out and players jumping off and coming back on to play it is the most unmanly sport going around and is laughable, managers and players being hysterical to referees it is just a drama play
