Anyone have thoughts on Molly Denahy-Maloney being overlooked as a draftee today.
- NAB League Team of the Year ruck slot,
- Sandy Dragons Captain,
- Victorious Vic Metro player for all 4 games and
- AFL Combine invitee (one of ~48 players when there were over 100 players drafted)?
In the pre-season testing she finished 2nd in the Running Vertical Jump, 2nd in the 20m sprint and 3rd in the agility test.

Interesting one, where she excelled in the combine and played well in the U/18 champs, NAB League Team of the Year
But at 180cm and averaged five disposals, seven hitouts and 3.5 tackles in five NAB League games, maybe that the recruiters wanted to see her more dominant in more aspects to her game.
As a tall she just didn't stand out enough as a few of the others do
Also unfortunately no Sandringham Dragon girls were recruited
Not tall enough maybe to ruck in the AFLW at the moment, a year in the VFLW would help her in the future as had others
The break down of the Vic draft is:
24 TAC U/18 players
23 VFLW players
6 interstate players (nominated Vic draft)

Thanks for the perspective. Recruiters obviously agreed that more development is required.
She missed half the NAB league season with influenza and still won the Ruck spot in the team of the year and was considered good enough for Vic Metro. Perhaps her NAB League performances were impacted by her health, which was obviously relatively debilitating?
I'd have thought there was enough scope to draft her now and develop her.
But, as noted, there are plenty of opportunities as a mature age player to get picked up in AFLW if she proves capable against women.

Yeah considering the AFLW lists are only 27 players compared to 45 AFL a lot of girls were going to miss out
Not one girl was recruited from Sandringham, Bendigo and Gippsland TAC, so its tough on the girls
Some others who were invited to the combine and didn't get a gig were Luka Lesosky-Hay (Geelong Falcons), Teagan Brett (Murray Bushrangers),
Shanara Notman (Gippsland Power), Paige Sheppard (Geelong Falcons), Nikia Webber (Gippsland Power), Alana Barba (Calder Cannons), Marguerite Purcell (Sandringham Dragons), and Felicity Theodore (Calder Cannons)
Hopefully the girls will be looked at when they play VFLW next year, as have Grace Egan (Richmond VFLW) for example who didn't get drafted in her junior year, but was a top 10 Vic pick by Carlton this year

THE FINAL two players have been signed ahead of the 2020 NAB AFLW season, with St Kilda adding forward Nadia von Bertouch and the Western Bulldogs signing young midfielder Hannah Munyard (pictured above).

How did GWS and the Tigers get such early pics?
GWS finished 8th out of 10 teams this year, so they got the third pick (before priority picks knocked them down to 4th, not that it really matters too much for a team with a draft zone to itself).

Priority picks were given to expansion clubs based on the strength of their free agency signings, as deemed by somebody at AFLHQ.
