Rules

  • Draft starts as soon as possible, once catters078 gets us going.
  • In this thread, please only post your selection (preferably with a photograph and a short description of your player) - all discussion should be in the separate discussion thread;
  • When making your selection, please post the name, position and college of the drafted player, together with a photograph and a short description of the player;
  • I wouldn't yet trust the tag system, so please PM the next mock GM once you have made your selection;
  • Please remember to complete the details of the drafted player in the Google Docs spreadsheet;
  • We're starting a little later than previous years, so please do your best to make your pick inside the timeframe when on the clock - we will start with eight hours on the clock and then see how we go;
  • If you're going to be unavailable for an extended period, please send me a list of your players (preferably ordered in preference) and I will make the pick on your behalf;
  • If time expires and I do not have a list of your preferred players, the pick will be auto-selected according to BPA;
  • Trades are permitted, but only current draft picks may be used in the trade (no players or future picks);
  • If an NFL trade occurs in reality, if the mock draft has not reached the relevant point, then the board will be adjusted - if the trade affects picks already taken, those picks will stay as selected (in other words, no do overs);
  • In accordance with NFL rules, compensatory picks can be traded;
  • Let's try to keep this going as long as possible - minimum four rounds;
  • The draft board is current as of 18 March 2019, based on the order provided by www.tankathon.com/nfl/full_draft

With the first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State.

usa_today_10404128.0.jpg

The Buckeye is the top player on the Raiders draft board, and the Raiders were quick to pull the trigger on a trade to ensure they got their guy. Bosa is an elite defensive end who can play both the run and the pass at a high level. He will no doubt have big shoes to fill as the new premier edge rusher post Khalil Mack.

Monocle and the Niners are now OTC.

Sorry guys Bigcrash has prevented me from posting earlier.

At work so more latter , just want to take the pick before the site goes down again.

So ........ with .

Pick #2 49ers take :

Josh Allen . Edge . LB. Kentucky. 6' 5" 260

Can’t go wrong with Allen his is ready to go at a position of need for John Lynch to add to the roster .
Also has some inside LB versatility that will be valued.
Whilst nothing is guaranteed in the art of drafting, I think this kid is as close as you will get to a sure thing .

With the third overall pick, the New York Jets select Quinnen Williams - DT - Alabama

quinnensmileus.jpg

To be frank, I'm not entirely happy with this pick as the first two picks made my decision much more difficult. Had one of Bosa or Allen dropped to the third overall pick, I would have taken that player given the Jets' immense need for a bona fide pass rusher. Also under consideration at this pick was Alabama offensive tackle, Jonah Williams.

Although it is not a glaring need for the Jets, there is a need for a new defensive tackle, with the Jets allowing Mike Pennel to leave in free agency, meaning that Steve McLendon and Folorunso Fatukasi are the only DTs on the roster. Although new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams typically runs a 4-3 base defence, it has been confirmed that the Jets will stick with a 3-4 formation for the forthcoming season.

Capable of playing as a strong-side defensive end, it is more likely that the Jets would use Williams as a traditional defensive tackle and ask him to bring pressure up the middle, as was his wont at the college level in 2018, though his versatility will surely earn him looks at defensive end as the Jets mix and match formations on defence.

After being a reserve in 2016 behind Da'Ron Payne and Johnathan Allen, Williams saw some limited playing time in 2017, recording two sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss and 20 total tackles in 14 games played. Williams then burst onto the season in 2018, recording 70 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks, with a safety.

Under Maccagnan, the Jets have simply gone with the best player available philosophy in the first round so while DT is not the most pressing of needs, taking Williams here continues to fit that philosophy.

catters078 on the clock with the Cards.

With the 4th Overall Pick the Arizona Cardinals select - Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma

Murray is a dynamic talent that can change a franchise.

He has a strong arm, can make deep and short throws with great touch and can open up a game when he runs the ball as a dual threat QB

With the 5th pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Devin White from LSU.

usatsi_11927266.jpg

This became a position of need for the Buccaneers when Kwon Alexander left in FA. I think he's the best player in this position, a tone setter who delivers big hits and has the speed to cover ground quickly.

With the 7th pick the Jacksonville Jaguars select...

Ed Oliver DT Houston

Oliver is an unbelievable athlete who’s production probably didn’t match his talent. Part of this may be because of how often he was lined up as an undersized NT.

In Jacksonville he will be able to line up as at the 3-tech position beside some elite talent including Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngakoue and 2018 1st round pick Taven Bryan.

He explodes off the ball at the LOS, has elite lateral movement and has some pass rushing moves that will translate to the NFL. As a run defender, Oliver is terrific at shooting gaps and taking on blockers. He also has to athleticism to drop into coverage although we haven’t seen a whole lot of that.

There are some red flags that has some cautious including height, short arms and production in getting to the QB.

Okay.

With pick 10 the Indianapolis Colts are selecting Defensive End Montez Sweat from Mississippi State.

5c9155a12400003500c6dae1.jpeg

The explanation here is simple. Montez Sweat has been my guy in this draft for months. The recent signing of Houston doesn't change this and the heart issue that they found with him doesn't change this. Montez is a beast and he's exactly what the Colts need.

Easiest pick I'll ever make.

Buzzasto DaSilva on the clock.

Pick 11- Trey Pipkins (OT, Sioux Falls)

Always love to get a smaller-school prospect if I can and I really like the look of Pipkins. A massive bolter, he had a dominant Shrine Game and his stock is rising. I would have preferred to trade down and pick him up later in the first round or early in the second, but I think he's worth taking a punt on early.

With the 13th picks, the Miami Dolphins select Christian Wilkins DT Clemson

pfnfbip0sdte7xnml9u6.jpg

With the signing of Ryan Fitpatrick, it is pretty clear to me that the Phins front office intends to use the draft this year to help restock the roster and set-up the offense for a QB they likely draft next year (Tua, Justin Herbert, Jake Fromm etc). In that case, the major needs of the rest of the roster are in the trenches. Christian Wilkins will help with both the porous run defense (Miami allowed the 2nd most yards per carry last season) and improve the pass rush, likely as a 3-tech where he can be quite disruptive.

With the 14th pick in the 2019 NFL draft the Atlanta Falcons select... Brian Burns - EDGE - Florida State

bburns.jpg

Cody Ford, Andre Dillard and Jonah Williams on the board made this a tough decision but the Falcons OL is not in worse enough shape to justify not snatching one of the best EDGE players in the draft in Brian Burns.

With the Falcons only having 2 true edge players on their roster in Beasley who is likely going to be on a new team in 2020 and McKinley who is yet to reach his potential, Burns is a no brainer.

Brian Burns is a lanky guy with speed that is capable of setting the edge against the run and winning against tackles when pass rushing with great hand technique. Burns always rushes with a plan and is committed to improving his craft going forward.

:nflredskins: Washington Redskins. Round 1 Pick 15

Drew Lock QB Missouri

drew-lock-678x381.jpeg

As a QB needy team we'd be likely to take Lock if he were to still be available at #15.

Locks skill set fits in nicely with the Redskins offensive scheme and while he needs work, notably with his footwork, I feel that with Gruden - who is yet to work with a 1st round QB chosen during his tenure - and an offensive coaching staff littered with ex-QB coaches plus the experience of whoever remains out of Keenum, Smith, McCoy, Johnson or Sanchez the potential is there for him to improve on his flaws as he bides his time where he should develop in to the long time starter at QB that the Redskins have lacked for many a decade.

:nflpanthers: Carolina Panthers. Round 1 Pick 16

Jonah Williams OT Alabama

JWilliams.jpg

Was tossing up among a few offensive tackle prospects here and thought a few would have gone by this point. For a unit in disarray last season this is an area they need to address.
Jonah Williams seems the most ready made tackle at this point despite many saying his arm length is too small for this position. A point acknowledged by Williams himself and something he seems to be carrying a grudge against, which I like as a motivating factor from a player who, on film, shows he is more than capable of being an NFL starter.

bgt2110 and the Giants are on the clock.

Pick 17 New York Giants select :

Marquise Brown WR Oklahoma

5' 10 "
160 lbs

Need to look at options at the WR spot to complement Barkley in the run game. Addressed the QB spot with Haskins earlier this draft and now look at trying to compensate for the loss of OBJ.

Pick 18, the Vikings take Jawaan Taylor OT Florida

Doubt he’ll fall to 18, but is an easy choice for Vikings to take an OL who is also the BPA on my board.

Taylor would be an immediate starter at right guard for the Vikings, with the aim to move him to right tackle when Brian O’Neil is moved over to left tackle to replace Riley Reiff. Taylor instantly solidifies a pretty dodgy OL grouping and provides much needed depth at guard as well as tackle.

With pick 20, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Andraez "Greedy" Williams - CB - LSU

5c953b4f4db5e.image.jpg

You can't teach speed, and Williams has speed in spades (he was timed at 4.37 seconds in the 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine) and his recent display of fluidity during positional drills at the LSU pro day put to rest any lingering issues with his technique. Williams isn't known for his tackling prowess and indeed his college coach Ed Orgeron indicated that this will be a priority for improvement in the NFL, but Williams himself has the confidence to take on the challenge.

Williams redshirted his first year at LSU due to the team's depth at corner, but when Kevin Tolliver was suspended for the 2017 season opener, Williams stepped in and picked off a pass in his first start. He cemented his starting position in 2017, posting 38 tackles, recording six interceptions and averaging 1.3 passes defended per game, which led him to being named first-team all-conference SEC and third-team All-American. After starting 12 games in 2018, Williams finished the college season with 33 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defensed. He forfeited an opportunity to appear in LSU's bowl game in order to prepare for the draft.

Williams profiles as a long, athletic cornerback who has the instincts and tools to play a variety of coverages, but he will be most effectively used (at least to begin with) in press-man coverage. He'll need to spend time with the strength and conditioning coaches to build up his physical side and to help out with run support, but the Steelers (despite signing Steven Nelson in free agency) need to find a no. 1 corner to eventually take over from Joe Haden and to enable the coaching staff to hide Artie Burns, so they will roll the dice with Williams realising his potential.

With pick 21 in the 2019 BigFooty NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select:

ferguson.jpg

Jaylon Ferguson - DE - Louisiana Tech.

For once the position of greatest need going into the draft for the Seahawks is not the offensive line. While the line does need some addressing at some point, Defensive End is where the Seahawks need to look to first. While there is some serviceable depth at the position, in terms of starting quality, the only player to fit the bill is Frank Clark. There is also some uncertainty around his future with him yet to sign a new contract but I personally don't think he will be going anywhere. DE is a position that I was expecting to possibly be addressed in free agency, but with the quality of player they could possibly get in the first round of the draft means that I think this first pick will be to fill the position.

Sven is OTC.

I'm just going to assume its a transposition error in the spreadsheet because I have the Ravens

With the 22nd pick, the Baltimore Ravens select Jeffery Simmons, DL, Miss State

122118-FBC-MSU-Simmons-1-WEB.jpg

Yes, I know that he ruptured his ACL less than a month ago. But with how successful modern medicine is at repairing and rehabbing this sort of injury, I have little concern that that will affect him too much. I also have little concern regarding his arrest for "domestic violence" during his senior year of HS - using force to break up a fight between a woman and your sister (who then subsequently insults your dead relative) is not the same thing as some of the other DV incidents that have plagued the league. And given his stellar record outside of this incident, I would have no more concern in this regard about Simmons as I would any other NFL player.

The bottom line is that Simmons is a top 5 talent at a position of relative need available in the mid-late first round, and I believe the Ravens should jump at the chance to draft him

bgt2110 and the Texans are OTC

Pick 23 the HOUSTON TEXANS select :

Andre Dillard - OL (left tackle) - Washington State

6' 5 "
315 ibs

Even a dill like me can see the Texans need OL help after watching Watson suffer sack after sack last season. Will hopefully step into the role from game 1 next season and cement his spot in that role which Martinas Rankin was not able to do. Was also looking at Greedy Williams at this spot so the Jets decision a few spots earlier made this one automatic for me.
