List Mgmt. 2019 Draft Prospect Discussion

yea, the rules state that you have to have :

1st round pick or all other picks.

there’s no in between.

So you need the junk picks from the 4th round onwards also.

Interesting.

In a lot of ways the rules the AFL impose on future trading is a little confusing as the two 2020 2nd round selections we did hold is a better draft position for a club than a single 2nd and 3rd round selection so I question why you shouldn't be able to trade out a future 1st in that scenario.

With list spots finalised we will either now lose our pick over 70 or we will package some picks to improve our draft position.

Picks 35 and 48 this year are equivalent to about pick 23. I wonder if we will try and package 35 and 48 to get into the 20s this year if one of our targets is still there on the night! Maybe 1 of Norths picks 26 or 27??

Alright, someone explain that trade to me.

We are obviously keen to improve our second pick for this year and we are going balls deep on Reef making it next year (so points)??

You'd assume points (in terms of where we'll have them) and flexibility.

Purely on points, P48 = 302 points; a top 8 Bears finish and their 3rd in 2020 is worth 220-316 points, a top 8 finish for us and our 2nd = 502-653. So worst case scenario if we both finish top 8, we've traded 653 points (Pies = 8th) for 522 (Bears = 1st). Best case scenario, we've traded 502 points (Pies = 1st) for 618 points (Bears = 8th).

Must rate Him very Highly

Don't mind the trade really, means we can deal next year's first rounder now, if we wish

Or bundle 35 and 48 for something a bit earlier, mid 20s-ish?

What Happens Reef is Rated at a Top 5 Talent Then?

We rejoice! Then we work out how to get the neceessary points or whether we should just go into deficit.

But next draft we have Nick Daicos who at the Moment is Very Highly Rated

And if he's a top 5 talent, we rejoice again and pay for it with the following years picks through trade or going into deficit. If you can pick up a massive bargain today, but don't have the cash- use credit and pay for it tomorrow. In terms of draft picks, we've got a guaranteed minimum yearly income, thus we can use credit.

Might be a problem if we have two highly rated kids in the one draft

It may have nothing to do with this year.

It may just provide us the ability to trade out next year's first round pick next year when we have a better understanding where Reef sits in the pecking order.

Just good preparation for next year. Or we may do something this year.

You mean Reef. Daicos isn't til the 2021 draft

That Excacly what I Meant. We have Reef Next Year and Nick the Year after and both seem to be Rated as 1st Rounders and Nick as High a Pick 1 but there still 2 Years to that Draft

I don't mind Glover but surely not Hustwaite, my god. talk about going backwards
Don't mind Hustwaite, plays hard and does some things that make you take notice for good reasons. The issue is he doesn't do those things (or less) often enough. I'm not sure whether that's a result of reduced opportunity with others preferred in the VFL midfield or whether he just doesn't win enough footy. Another VFL season should give a better insight, at the risk of someone else recruiting him sooner.

If he’s that highly rated Dave we either try and improve our draft hand next off season or we go into deficit. Either way I’d just be happy getting a top 5 talent.

Aish.

Not sure what Balmer’s getting at given there was never a restriction on us moving our 2020 1st.
I thought I was going crazy for a moment there. I was certain the rule was if you trade your future first you can’t trade any other future picks, and if you trade your future second you can’t trade your future first. Never heard any restrictions around trading later picks.

We'd be able to trade next year's pick next year, regardless of this trade.

Even with Nick Daicos in the Following Draft who is Very Hightly Rated in next draft?

If we don’t have the currency for Nick with our 2021 picks then we can trade players or 2022 picks to get the currency. It’s a non-issue Dave.

But we might lose someone or pick we rather of Kept

Might be a juggle Dave, but with the large number of players coming out of contract next year we might be flush for picks too, possibly

Quite a Possibly and the Salary Cap will be Tight after Grundy,Moore and De Goey Re-Sign

We aren’t going to lose anyone we want to keep just to draft Daicos. And if he’s that good I’m sure we’ll be happy to give away a future pick to get him. Srsly, non-issue.

Yes. What Apex36 said. Non issue. Future trading means we should still be able to manage all possibilities Dave.
