Here’s my thinking behind the Parfitt selection:

- Last year the times that Parfitt was given more midfield time he impressed. He’s a good contested player, moves well in traffic, also one of our best two-way players working both ways + lays lots of tackles.

- SC scores of 104, 92, 168, 94, 102, 119 & 117 last year means he can score well, and that was while playing mainly forward with little midfield time. The 168 was against St. Kilda & we were able to give him more midfield responsibility where he racked up 28 touches (16 contested) at 71% efficiency, 7 tackles, 3 goals and 14 score involvements. I expect him to get much more midfield time in 2019 which means he might not kick 3 goals in a game but he should get more of the ball + lays lots of tackles so should still score very well.

- The senior players for Geelong this preseason have been talking about young players needing to step up & take more responsibility which is great to hear compared to the usual spiel about the senior players carrying the load + means they also need to give the younger guys (like Parfitt & Narkle) more of a chance in the midfield to show what they can do. Almost every article I’ve read about Geelong’s preseason has mentioned Parfitt being a standout too so he’s having a full preseason + dominating in match simulation in the midfield.

- I see Parfitt being one of the 6 main midfielders in Geelong’s rotations probably along with Dangerfield, J. Selwood, Kelly, Duncan & Narkle. Scott Selwood isn’t good enough to be in the midfield now (hence why we were playing him as a pressure forward to finish last season), Ablett & Menegola will play that HF role (which Menegola played last season anyway) pushing into stoppages but starting outside the centre square with Parfitt taking over from GAJ’s midfield time.

So in conclusion, Parfitt will play a lot more midfield and should rack up a lot more of the ball (consistently 25-35 touches) but even if he has an off day (only 20 touches for example) then he makes up for it with all the tackles he’ll lay anyway. That’s my thinking behind it.

Wish me luck kents
That's a pretty compelling argument, but I'm not quite convinced.
People are talking up Kelly, and Danger, Selwood, Duncan, Menegola, Hawkins all score well. GAJ even fwd will still take a chunk of the pie.
That's a lot of points to share with Parfitt. Can Danger, Kelly, Parfitt, Menegola and Hawkins ALL be top forwards in SC?
Cats aren't a lock for top 8 anymore so it's not like the days of Bartel, GAJ, Selwood, Chapman, Enright and even then they were spread out over Def/Fwd/Mid.
I do think he has potential to be a gun, and you've got to back your gut, so good luck with it.

Cheers mate :thumbsu: Yeah that’s a good point, I expect:
- J. Selwood to drop off a bit as we might look to play him a bit more off half back as we did a couple of times last season.
- Ablett to drop off a bit as he plays more up forward but I agree GAJ seems to always find a way to score well.
- Menegola to score similar to last season where he found his groove playing a HF role pushing into stoppages.
- Hawkins to drop off a bit as we look to share the load inside 50 with Ratugolea returning even with the 6-6-6 rules.
- Dangerfield, Kelly & Duncan to probably be our best midfield scorers along with hopefully Parfitt for mine.

What’s the story with Cockatoo? Would his inclusion impact Parfitt’s scoring?

Most Cats fans know that if Cockatoo is fit then he’s a lock in our Best 22, it’s just that he’s hardly ever fit.

So if Cocky happens to make it through the preseason it’d be fantastic but I’d expect us to play him in a forward 50 pressure role to build into senior footy again. We’d probably play him there most of the season just to try and make sure he gets through a consistent block of games without getting injured.

If he can somehow stay fit for a season then I’d expect us to start transitioning him into the midfield (which is what we drafted him as) towards the end of the season with a lot more midfield time coming for him the season after.

So I’d say for 2019 at least Cocky shouldn’t impact Parfitt’s midfield scoring or any of our other midfielders. If he can somehow stay fit for a long time then he’d eventually move into the midfield absolutely because he’s a bull.

You're a bit off with Dunkley and libba SterlingArcher I think. Dunkley should be seeing 70% mid time despite libba there. Also libba in 2016 spent alot of time floating forward and was decent. He also is coming off a second ACL so should be spending more time forward.

Plus Geelong will give him that midfield time wanting him to dominate so his trade value is still quite high assuming he’ll request a trade at the end of the season :thumbsu:

At the moment, I’m on him on because I don’t trust Libba to actually stay fit. He’s a 90ish player in the mid if Libba plays but 110ish if Libba doesn’t play

it was never libba's injury for his mid time, he actually wanted to be a mid, but lacked endurance and chances, the injuries helped his move quicker but he relished it and said this is what he has been working for....i don't see him changing roles, he actually is a key part to our mid now.

Thoughts on Gresham.
Looks a player. Think he can average 95+

Worries me that I think saints are a lock for bottom 4 and I have Gresham, Roberton and Parker in there atm

I reckon he’ll do well, should play a lot more midfield. It’s between Gresham & Parfitt for my F4 and I’ve currently got Parfitt.

Really. Hadn't noticed :p
