Did Sam Docherty pull on the number 24 tonight and play for us?

I was so impressed with Newman. His defensive end forts we’re superb. Genuinely surprised. Didn’t rate him as a footballer, but this game has definitely resulted in me changing my mind about that.

Terrible 1st quarter, apart from that, the other 3 qtrs were serviceable

Newman, is a lock for best 22, clearly our best tonight
Cripps, despite the possessions was not his normal one touch player
Ed, not forward, get him back in the middle
Murphy, Simmo and to a lesser degree Thomas didn't show enough leadership or composure
Plowman played well against the likes of Martin, surprised me with his intensity
Walsh tried hard, but needs to use the 1st option
Fisher worked hard, got better as the game went on
Cuners worked hard, keep finding the footy and it will click
Harry, was impressed with his sustained workrate
Weitering was good, will have a solid season
Fasolo, always needed that run
Jones did well given the entries
McGovern needs to be more involved than his average of 12 odd touches
Charlie was lazy, needs to work harder
Setters another that needed that run
Garlett kept Rioli quiet, but will frustrate
SPS had some great touches and finishes, but struggled to find the ball consistently

Need more work on our composure and touch, but we will have a better season than last year

The lack of fluency is painful. It’s scratch, grind, stop, dither... coming out of defence is just so hard to watch. Yes, I know they are young.
Can someone explain the game plan, please?
We somehow managed to apply enough pressure in the middle quarters but fell in a hole.
Umpires, wow, hurt us bad.
Curnow stunk it up like never before.wanted more from Murphy
Liked McKay. Loved Walsh. Always love Cripps and Newman was good.
Liked the pressure in the middle quarters.
Into next week. Hope for better.
Thought ball movement from d50 to f50 was good when we were up and about. However delivery into 50 seems to be kick long and high for gov, harry and charlie to clunk. Won't work often enough against good sides

I know it’s taboo to post on an oppo board after a 5 goal loss, but I was very impressed with the way your blokes played tonight.

As Walsh, Setterfirld and Dow et al start to get more games under their belt, Cripps will more and more become the best player in the competition. Thought Bolton did the right think and put a lot of faith in your young blokes in the midfield, which I hope will pay off and Cripps can go forward more.

What I was most impressed with was how in Q2 and Q3, when you guys started to come back; it felt like it was the younger guys that were driving you forward. Extremely impressive. Last years corresponding game I thought Carlton stayed in it through energy and a degree of franticness. Tonight’s game however, was more measured and structured when you were in a dominant position.

The area where I thought we would dominate is the structures side of things, which generally falls down for young sides. But in Q2 and Q3, you guys were on top. Using the over lap to move the ball ip the boundary line, and not afraid to hit the corridor. But also in contested situations. Somehow got more to players to the contest, but controlled the corridor.

Q4 May seem like a let down, but the 2018 tigers saw us overrun the Magpies twice, Geelong twice and the Demons in the last quarter of the game. It comes with experience.

So I was impressed. I can see how the Blues can be a very good team in a few years time.

I saw Charlie absolutely tanked a couple of Saturday nights ago, stumbling across the road and almost falling in the gutter. I really hope this hype hasn’t gotten to his head. I hope Bolton is brutal with him in the match review because his performance tonight was unacceptable.

Fair dinkum looked like he had a belter last night the way he played today.

No secret he loves a beer, seen him out a few times myself...hell, the only reason we have him is due to drink driving!

Hes too talented to not turn out good, but needs to pull his head in real quick.

1. I’m sick of seeing Marc Murphy laughing and smiling with the opposition after we lose.

2. We got reamed by the umpires in the first quarter.

3. I’ve stuck with and advocated for Bolton since the start, I’m not convinced after tonight. They lost rance and we closed to within 13 points and he kept them playing that slow down the side kick to the pocket from a kickoit game plan. He has no idea seriously.

Imagine thinking that Murphy isn't allowed to smile after his 250th after all he has done for the club and thinking it's an acceptable thing to say.

When we got clean ball and ran as a group the game plan looked good to me. Defensively it looked solid. When players tired or we made mistakes it looked poor. Don't see it as an issue at the moment

Plenty to like about tonight. Our ability to get our hands on the footy was terrific, ball movement and disposal however is still an issue, think it's largely due to timing our runs, general player movement and being flat footed.

Our defence stood up for the most part. Need to be quicker in transition in both directions. Too many tiger players finding space and on the other end not able to capitalise in transition with slow and indecisive ball movement.

Tigers are a gun ground level team. Too many times we had 3 guys going for a spoil to the tigers 1, leaving 2 to get the ground ball and run, I'd rather leave it a one on one contest in that situation with them, especially further up the ground.

All in all, 2 good quarters and 2 terrible against a premiership level team and only lost by 5 goals, can live with it considering where we are at. Some young guns really emerged tonight.
Go Blues!

Not at all! I don’t think he has much idea on match day. They went a man down, we had all the momentum, and he went for the slow ball movement game plan around the boundaries again.
fair call.....

I think as much as anything, we'll simply need to get used to playing together as a unit, although the gaps we had walking into this game are the gaps we had walking out of it and are the gaps that are likely to continue throughout the season.
It really shouldn't surprise.

There's a good platform here though and one that can be tidied up after a good off-season and in the meantime, there's still plenty to look forward to.
Getting Marchbank, Williamson and Kreuzer in, makes us better immediately.

Pleased for Setterfield, Newman and that 18 year old kid - Walsh.
SPS, Fisher and Dow can and will only get better. No panic station required.

It’s a shame Doc went down because he, Newman and Simmo would’ve been a good trio of experienced heads to direct the troops

Exactly right, i know thats why we lost. Smiling after a loss. You'd think he's go somewhere else [emoji849]
