I don't really rate Markov at all. He runs fast, that's about it. Not sure of his actual footballing ability or ability to defend. Broad is a much better player and fills more of a need for us.
I can only assume we have cooled on Broad because he asked for a bit more coin than what we're willing to give up?
They do play opposite roles of each other though.
Broad is the proven player - but is a 3rd tall lock down, 1v1 defender. Ballard, Hombsch or Burgess can all play this role - maybe not as well, but that's 3 guys we currently have for 1 position. Poor list management really.
Markov is pure rebound speed. We have zero of this and haven't had anyone since Saad left. He would be best 22 Rd1 2021.
And if Atkins also rotates through the back flank, that's an immediate improvement on this season and frees up Bowes into the midfield and/or Lukosius up the field with his elite kicking into our fwd 50.
I don't think we should underestimate the impact Bowes could have rotating through the midfield full-time. The kid is silk in traffic and I think is ready to take his game to the next level if we can free him up from the back flank.
