List Mgmt. 2021 Draft Prospects

There’s a suggestion on the draft boards that GWS rate Darcy at 1 and they’re not the only ones. Recruiters are apparently very taken with his rate of improvement, scope to improve further, character and size.
Question marks about his straight line pace, but his ability below his knees is stupidly good for a 205cm player

Copy & pasted from the Hun:

Picks (pre-bids): 23, 43, 44, 45, 52

The Bulldogs look the most likely suitor for 24-year-old utility Mitch Cox and the Frankston VFL gun looms as a late or rookie chance after a strong season. NGA nominee Cody Raak, a 19-year-old medium defender/forward, is also a potential rookie option. Fellow overage Victorian Corey Preston played two matches for the Bulldogs’ VFL side this year and the dynamic small defender/forward came close to snaring an SSP last pre-season.
The Corey Preston talk seems like speculation but an earlier hint noted that Essendon were interested. I suspect we take Stagg if available as we're not scared of overagers or kids in their early 20s.

Just on vision alone he certainly doesn’t look slow. But that could have just been his excellent movement playing tricks on me. He has mentioned his been working with a speed coach so definitely could’ve improved also without recent testing we won’t know.

Still looks an incredible prospect regardless. There’s not many 205.5cm kids that can play both key positions to a high level. And seems like a really level headed type of character, that wants to make his own name.

I’m putting money on him playing a few games next season. Especially now weighing in at 93kg.

Weirdly, for all the talk of agility and below the knees ability it was his judgement of the ball in flight as an intercept marking defender that caught the scout's eye.

Happy Darcy Day

— The Dogs firstly receive some assistance via the 20 per cent discount (automatically given to clubs for father-son bids inside the first round), meaning they now have to find 2014 points to secure Darcy.

— To match the bid, the Dogs use Pick 23 (815 points), Pick 43 (378), Pick 44 (362), Pick 45 (347) and Pick 52 (246), equating to 2148 points that is enough to cover the Giants’ bid.

— As the value of those five picks is more than the discounted Pick 2 value, the Dogs have 134 points left over. This means the last selection the Dogs used to match the Darcy bid (Pick 52) would slide back to Pick 62.

— The bid is successfully matched and Darcy is officially selected by the Bulldogs at Pick 2, but it costs the club their first five picks.

Our handshake agreement with Geelong should net us a greater points surplus - so our pick 52 might end up unscathed. That would move up substantially with all the other picks before it being used to match bids (e.g. Daicos and the later NGA kids). Chances are we get an early-mid 40s pick and then we can use our late live pick on a slider/needs based selection

We are linked to Geelong and Swans picks during the bid
Fully expect Pick 23 move for at least 3 third rounders

Geelong22, 30, 32, 34, 50

Sydney16, 31, 39, 69, 84, 89

So I presume that when Darcy is bid on, we try to move on 23 first so that our later pick is more around the 30-40 range?

Correct
Meaning we only have to use 4 picks to secure him while keeping our picks in the 40s

Edit: 4 picks instead of 5

They said similar things about Ayce Cordy before he was drafted.

Pick 1 and pick 2 in consecutive drafts for a Grand Final side.

At the end of 2014 if you said in the next 7 years we'd win a flag, make another Granny, end up with the best u22 KPF in the league then pick up consecutive no 1 and 2 picks in drafts (both tall kids) I think most of us would have taken that.

I work with Cox about 5 years ago while i was in the VFL
I'm honestly so impressed with how he has changed his work ethic and attitude to footy

He has matured a lot from walking into a club at 18 years old with a very important last name in the Eastern Suburbs footy scene
He doesn’t seem an obvious list need.

190cm kid who can play either end.
I'd be comfortable with adding him to our list. On list needs we have a KPD (Darcy), a ruck (but we don't seem to want them) and a small crumbing forward

All the highlights I can find on Cox are as a forward. I don’t think Darcy is developed as a KPD either.

Cox is a pure forward imo

Gowers type of forward

Cox started the year in defence before being shifted forward.
Darcy played as a KPD for the Chargers, forward at APS level and in the Metro game. I suspect he spends time back during pre-season.
