Only reason we got Hill was he wanted to come back to Vic. We also had to pay significantly more than rivals because we are the no man's land Saints.
Nothing changes when we approach any other player this year. Sure Parish over Hill, but reality is you get who you can. We aren't Geelong, Carlton or Essendon.

Sometimes nothing is better than something.

So outs are:
Gresh
JB
Highmore
Dmac*
Jones*
TC*
Bytel*
Leo*
Pato*

Realistically there's little trade value there other than maybe a slight pick upgrade.
If we take a free agent then we'd also basically lose the compo for Gresh too.

I'd be offering Flanders enough to make sure he says yes. Replace TC with a younger model and throw the rest at the draft.
There's opportunity to get Ned for junk picks as GC have a bunch of NGA's but maybe can they just list them without drafting?? Dunno

I'd like to see:
Ned (points bundle)
24yo ruckman (Gresh compo)
1stRDP (13ish)
2ndRDP (35ish)
Keep Jones 1 year TBC
Keep Leo 1 year
Maybe Dow or other SSP
2 empty list spots for randos
If they can get Berg for a 2ndRDP then fine.

No big ticket items please, and for the love of God no draining of future picks.

I think we can muddle through for KPDs with what we have. Coops was great last night, Cordy can and should be tried for structural reasons and JVE and Adams would have another 20 months development.
Howard gets us a late second/early third.

Which 24yo ruckman, the one you imagine will come in and compete better than campbell? How will you get him with the Gresham compensation.
I'd rather keep Billings or Gresham than Jones, Jones injuries seem to be chronic.
Billings and Gresham are also superior to Dow, who is old enough and has played enough games that we know that what we see is what we get.
Billings and Gresham are better than Rando's.

No point delisting unless you can bring in a better option, otherwise its a form of masturbation.
Billings and Gresham are draining over $1M in salary.
Billings has no future at StKilda and so is worthless in context. Yet he still gets half a million bucks to run around at Sandy for another 2 years.

Like this
I would keep Jones if we think we can get him back playing give a year on 300k with some triggers
💯 use 1st and 2nd rnd picks at the draft

Not on what his contract is paying him, unless it's been front loaded already.

As l said, l think ha needs help and is better placed as a CHB until he's not needed anymore.
I'm pretty disappointed with the absence of experimentation in that space.
Fairly standard RTB unfortunately, but I'd hoped for better.

And Gresham will earn what his next contract puts him on.

I dunno about that stuff, but I'm absolutely sure that misses the point entirely.

He's knocking a fair bit of his value off by the week. Billings is already on a laser contract.

D.Howard is basically Harry Maguire of our team. Sure he might have leadership qualities but he makes too much mistakes out there to be consistently named in our 22.

Trade him.
The question is, "who do we play instead"?
Maybe RTB can coax Z Dawson out of retirement.

Sometimes nothing is better than something.
lol wat? We spend the $750k on BIllings Gres, Skunk etc, oh that's right, we already do.
We have to spend 95% of the SC. And to infer Hill is no good is disingenuous, he may not be worth what we paid, but, he is a good player and we also needed to pay the small club tax.

Each to their own, but I am of the belief that there are players whom we believed would take us forward that are, ultimately, flawed. And we are best biting the bullet now.
Last night was the proverbial straw that broke this camel’s back.
If there is a cost, wear it now as our risk is all downside.
Out Howard and Gresham.

He's okay this season but he's been a major disappointment up until now and even this year isn't in our best players. We didn't have to just pay his wage he cost picks and players as well. Doubt he has been better than Acres who we gave up which was justified as saving wages. Over paying some players doesn't mean burning money on others is good management.

It was an obvious overrating of where our list was at at the time as well. Dougal Howard is a fail, Butler a mixed bag but seems to be better this year. Ryder is gone.

Out Howard and Gresham.
Apologies for the ensuing rant.

Actually l agree completely. But it's a matter of the ability to replace said player for something better.
Right now l don't see an opportunity to do so without detracting from the core problem of the midfield which is issues number 1, 2 and 3.
I don't like our defensive setup atm and l don't like offensive method from defense, that in isolation is freekin awful and Richo-esk.

Doogs ain't going anywhere so it's a matter of putting him to best use and that requires a defensive orientated FB like Cordy to fill thst hole.

I'm long past attributing some existential intelligence to coaches odd decisions. Doing the obvious is the minimum of expectation and greatness lies in what moves are made that aren't obvious to the average punter.

RTB is tracking as per previous which is not good enough in this era. His modes operandi has been to stick with a regular 22 for love nor money and that is not congruent with a "year of exploration"

Granted injuries are a factor but it's obvious now that those are not the influential factor in selection.
As an initial supporter of RTB's appointment l'm now starting to believe he hasn't altered his single minded ethos which yielded zero premierships for the sake of exactly what's happening now.

We need to experiment but it seems there's no appetite for any of it dispite an acknowledgment we're not in the premiership race. It doesn't add up in my book.

Howard looks horrific out there when the ball is coming in quick, apart from punching the ball when luckily didn’t slip or trailing behind his opponent, can’t win a one on one contest to save his life, also has awful awareness and skills, moving him to CHB is not going to change things. We need someone like a Alex Rance who is a steady influence next to Wilkie, not an accident waiting to happen

It’s a happy day when an inner northern hipster type agrees with the bayside board shorts type.
Rant welcome.

Just think, if we'd done the pick split in that draft , but not made any other trades, we would have missed Hill and Howard, but we could have got Day and DeKonig.

This obviously what we were hoping Battle could become but he doesn’t seem to be taking the next step.

I think it’s worth at least giving Highmore a crack.
Highmores disposals are iffy. I thought Wilkie was playing that, but is now more lockdown. Worth giving Sharman a crack. Try Howard at Fwd/Ruck

If Battle could play key position it could free up Wilkie to play the role more but he’s always been a bit shaky on key forwards.

I’d prefer Highmore over Sharman, not sure his disposal is as bad as what is made out on here.

Intercept marking is his one wood
