+ if all healthy, we have the capacity to cover for BK down back (with his omission from the PF).

not that i think there is any truth to smith rumours and us but if im playing devils advocate id speculate something like
Kennedy + Dow + Fisher would all need to go, Smith takes up the high half forward role and part of the midfield rotation fish and dow couldnt fulfil...smith wouldnt be my first preference for that role but I would do it on lesser money

Id be interested to know how much salary is free'd up with ed/plow/fish/dow all gone

Im also half curious as to whether clubs come ringing for pittonet again now we have TDK tied up and SOS signed, this last half ive dropped away from the TDK/Pittonet combo unless pre knee injuries pittonet returns i cant see it working - bloke was barely leaving the ground for a few rounds there

If Smith is to leave a large part would be because he's been played out of position at half forward for most of this year and he wants a full time mid. I doubt he comes to us unless thats where we play him.

There's a fair bit of guess work going to be processed over the trade period. Ultimately, I'm feeling secure in the knowledge our list will be improved when we run out to belt Richmond on our way to a rampaging 17th premiership.

Think our “second” ruck situation is one we must wait to evolve. Both Hudson O’Keeffe and Harry Lemmey have potential in that area. In fairness, they won’t be ready for regular games, if any, in 2024.

List management is largely an evolutionary thing.

TDK is most likely to assume the no. 1 spot next year. He is still building his “tank” and will probably need a further 12 months to assume 80% of the responsibility. A fit Pittonet remains a viable proposition. He was a fair way off his best last season and hopefully gets a decent pre season. For mine it will be largely a dual effort in 2024, with some evolution likely. Hopefully Pitto’s knee settles down, his potential is a little limited, but remains undervalued by most on here.. Surely Jack Silvagni is afforded regular game time as a pinch hitter in games where only one of the big boys is available, or we change up to a more mobile option.

If Mirkov can’t, or chooses not to go on in 2024, it possibly opens the door to add another more mature type. The possibility that Lewis Young may consider options elsewhere with the club’s blessings could further alter the dynamics as well, given that he is a real option to ruck if required.

Think we wait for O’Keeffe to become viable as a forward/ruck, or for Lemmey to offer something forward allowing a bit of flexibility for Charlie and Harry to modify roles a little.

I think we should delist mirkov and list him in the vfl team. Give him a chance to use the club facilities while he gets better and learns to trust his body again. Reliant hom in mid season draft or re-rookie next year.

yeah i agree but i cant see him as a full time midfielder with our list composition. He should 100% look elsewhere imo

Preaching to the choir - particularly since the club prefers Marchbank in the defensive role - but I don't think the coaches are that lateral, Voss seems to emphasise consistency over other factors

I think if Smith is available, you get him in as quick as bloody look at you.

He replaces both of Kennedy and Hewitt around the ball, being a) faster than both, b) is a better on the run shot for goal than both (even if Kennedy is an excellent set shot) and c) can kick longer than Hewitt can by a considerable margin. While he hasn't kicked goals over the past two seasons, he's also not played all games. When he did (2021) he kicked 17. We need the long range goal kicking from midfield he (and Kennedy) provide.

The other side of it is, he's an endurance machine. Kennedy is still not really hitting midfield TOG minutes yet; while George is pretty good, him and Cripps in the midfield necessitates defensive wings far, far more than it should to compensate. He might be on 700 now, but we have a series of contracts winding down over the next few years. Negotiate with him what he'd be willing to do to get to us, and do due diligence about his training work ethic.

A) We have room next year and lots to come 2025 and beyond
B) Trade capital is an issue but Campo twins won't effect it
C) Smith isn't a winger he's mid/fwd and why he would be recruited
D) Smith has leg speed and goal kicking ability. Something our midfield needs
E) He definitely fills a hole for me and makes us better

Personally, I think it's a long shot (almost zero) we get him but IMO your points are off base

I agree with your summation on our mids and the need for long range goal scoring but I’m not sure smith is the answer. I don’t quite see him as the degoey type. I’d prefer we keep looking.

Smith would be straight in with Walsh Cerra Cripps IMO. Great combination with Hewett/Kennedy for support
