We will need some luck. Just need players to want to come. Our side needs to finish strongly this season to make that happen.

Probably need to trade out some mids.

Unfortunately this is hard because we are offloading a lot of players other clubs won't want.

I think this one is going to hurt a bit. But we will see.

I agree we need some more pace in the midfield, but I do think coaching is making our midfield look worse than it is. When the ball becomes lose and starts to bobble around, we don't have players coming in to close out the space (Acres excepted). I reckon we win around 25% of the loose balls, so if we don't get it out clean, we are losing the clearance most times. This is why we need Hewitt in the midfield for big minutes to stop the bleeding. If we coached for better secondary help, we could take more risks on winning the clearance.

On Pitto, I think he needs to be told he is backup only and we aren't going with two rucks in any game. He just makes us slower, which isn't a reflection on him, it's just the team we have built.

hamil clarke russell hansen don't inspire me with confidence and modern game IQ. we need better
What would you know about their modern game IQ? Hansens currently being looked at as a leading candidate to take over at WCE and extremely well regarded across the competition, Clarke was brought back to the club at Cripps personal request and our midfield has been one of the best performing in the competition for the last 2 1/2 years under him. Last year we had the 2nd best defense in the league for points against under Hamill but struggled to find the balance this year around stoppage...

Do you have any intel on what they're doing wrong? Or just a vibe? Up until 3 weeks ago we were 2nd in odds to win the flag and everyone was praising our coaching staff, players and club as a whole incessantly.

Nathan Kreuger worth a look? Out of contract at Collingwood ... played down back when he was at Geelong. Think he was part of that odd draft compensation set up a few years back. Is 25, 196cm and had a lot of injuries (so fits our MO).
Sharman is untapped but I fear we have no idea what our best forward line set up is and with JSOS returning next year and discussion continuing about two rucks, Kemp struggling as a back ... it's hard to know if we need another tall forward on the list.

Wouldn't be surprised if we're into Harry Edwards from West Coast with Jack Carroll potentially involved.

Had 9 marks & 17 disposals against the Saints a couple of weeks back.

A restricted free agent at end of 24', Edwards is a 23yo 200cm KPD that has shown nice ability to date albeit down the pecking order a little. I guess if they lose Tom Barass i'd say getting Edwards across would be unlikely.

Have you watched him? I actually put him in a Fantasy team for cash generation when he got a game as last man standing. So have been watching him more closely, before he went down, again. Has done OK statistically, but a big clumsy type, who tries hard is the best description. Apparently has a bit of “self belief” (read ego), but has nowhere near the athleticism to be a viable front line defender.

Already had him from those awesome concussions the afl gave us a few years ago 😂

If there's any truth to the Cerra rumour, I think it presents a fabulous opportunity to rebalance our list.

We're currently over-invested in the midfield on slower contested types. Cerra is on good/very good money. Age-wise he's great for the long-term view, but in the short-term he's potentially a bit of a millstone - not alone there, it's the combination of Cripps, Cerra, Hewett, Kennedy, Walsh and even Hollands and Acres.

Depending on what Melbourne's plans are (continue to contend, mini-rebuild etc.), I'd be interested in any of the following - Spargo, Bowey, Fullarton - as a complementary piece in a trade for Cerra. Half forward playmaker, half back playmaker, KPP/ruck option/depth. I'd also be going incredibly hard at Fritsch, but I think that might be the kind of request that gets immediately shut down by the Dees.

The only draft pick of interest that Melbourne have is their first, currently #8, and future first rounders (pending how many years in advance the AFL authorise trading). Pick 8 and Fullarton for Cerra is probably thereabouts. Future first and either Bowey or Spargo would be OK if we assume Melbourne will bounce back a bit. Straight swap for Fritsch the unlikely dream.

Pick 8 getting one of Draper, Lalor or Moraes would be excellent. Could get real lucky and have Trainor slide but I doubt it - maybe bundling 8 and our own first to get into the top 5 would be an option, make a play for Jagga Smith? Carroll and some later pick (swaps?) for Harry Edwards from WC rounds it out.

Cerra and Carroll for Edwards, Smith and Fullarton - gives us the KPD we need, a quality quick midfielder, and a depth KPF which we sorely need after having to trial Young there last week,

I'm as frustrated at Cerra's year as most BUT...i think we need to take a deep breath on the idea of a trade at the first sign of interest in him.

This time last year he was considered favourite to win our B&F (he finished 4th but missed a chunk of games towards the end). IMO, when he's up & about he's our best ball user going inside 50.

He's only 24 and should, in the next five years, hit his peak. This year has effectively been a wipeout for Adam and i've got no doubt he's too conscience of the hamstring. Just needs to find some continuity and confidence playing back on the ball. It's important Voss (who I feel is being pretty stubborn in this case) gives him the opportunity to do this. The back-flank experiment is embarrassing for everyone.

IF, our medicos & S&C team think his hammies are buggered then that's a different story but I wouldn't be rushing to trade him off the back of some current ordinary form.

It's not a good position to be in having a lot of players going out, none of which have trade value. IMO we are in between a rock and a hard place. Out of the names mentioned, only Owies and Carroll would return anything and I won't be anything spectacular.

Cerra I don't think will be traded unless something spectacular presents.

We have a good clutch of 4th round picks. Potentially we could use them with something else to get more into the third and second round.

I think we can get players if they want to come. But the quantity we need is looking quite large. A little luck is going to be needed.

I’m told Marchbank Cuningham Martin won’t be offered new contracts

I assume Sam Durdin won’t for same reasons

IMO has to be question marks over Mirkov Akuei Lemmey M.Carroll Fantasia and even Moir

Gut feel is Jack Carroll could easily go back to WA
And so the midfield exodus really kicks off... big opportunity opening up for Kemp now.

Does anyone have a current list of available free agents? Isaac Cumming stands out as a player we could really use, whether it be off half-back or the wing.
I don’t get this post. How do you know what their coaching credentials are?
They're displaying them on match day. Furthermore, not sure we have anyone aside from Power who made a career out of the style that's on display in the AFL lately.

Some talented players, to be sure, but they'd sprint down the field and execute a single effort, they weren't too involved in making multiple efforts.
Keep and reassess next year
Matthew Kennedy
Out of contract end of next year, so this would be the time to trade him if his value is peaking.

Kreuger is Cuningham level injury prone - surely we need to move on from these types

Here's my shortlist from March:

McCluggage (mid)
Cumming (running def)
Perryman (general def/mid, dependent on Docherty)
Nash (KP/mid)
T.McDonald (KP)
Battle (KPD)
Florent (flank/wing)

Maybe an aging star like Johannisen if we have a very specific need for elite talent.
McCluggage unlikely, but you definitely swing for the fences to ensure market value is paid.

Perryman is maybe going to be steep, and for us we'd want to make decisions about players like Docherty and Kennedy first.

Someone's offering 6 years for Nash, but I'd imagine it's not super expensive to match, or even exceed if we want to aim for a shorter contract term.

Bidding war for Battle is supposedly already outside a price range anyone would be comfortable with.

Florent has re-signed.

Not a free agent, but Will Philips is someone we should seriously be looking at... it's criminal how few opportunities he sees at North.

Can be difficult to compare value, but if it was a straight swap for one player, and considering our needs, who do you think would be a fair and reasonable straight swap?

Also forgetting current contract length/value

Liam Mcmahon. We are wearing the red shoes "dorothy" in terms of fwd back up

A player nearing the end, with a couple of years of solid potentially great footy left, playing in a team not likely to be contending and wanting one last shot at glory.
We want and need a very good tall defender and I think that’s the best we can hope for, and Jeremy McGovern may be the one

I can see WC going for it as they need picks, they may even pay a % of his salary as surely they’d have plenty of space available

Our 1st for Jeremy and their third

My fear is he ends up filling an emptied spot in the medical room

No way putting a 1st on the table in a Solid draft. Better off trading a player like j. Carol and later pick for j. McGovern.
Use the first rounder to draft a KPD to learn off weiters & McGovern and build up the body of work in the vfl for a couple of yrs.
