Greeves and NHH not being drafted shows the lack of two way footballers these days with the softish element aren’t going places. Too often in the past we’ve gone those safer picks and they become plodders.

Interesting draft. Not sure how Giesch says we’re going best available but drafts unknowns then the trade up for GC pick for a couple academy bids and for a bloke that probably wouldn’t have got picked up seems a bit unusual.

Our draft last year was beasts and height with this year we’ve decided 178-184. Forget complimenting one another in one draft just do it over two years .

In saying all that I’m excited with this years draft. The experts called it very even post the first 15 maybe 20 picks and that’s evident by a lot of bolters.

Anyway, we go from having no speed literally to now 5 elite speed and agility with including Retschko. Not often a year of drafting and trading equates to a very similar type of player. Bring on the new game plan of run and carry i say!

I think we have 2 rookie spots, no?

That's 38 main-listed players with Zane and Noah added to main list and Campbell upgraded, which leaves us with Gray, Tresize, Lefau as Cat A rookies and OHB as Cat B (so 4 total).

Can have 44 total players on a list maximum. Still potential for Kellaway + 1?
Would be great if we do have two picks, nominate Kellaway to the rookie list and take another pick at 2.

Drafting the best available was still done. However, they go by their own ratings, and so they rated Peuker, and the Hyphen higher than most of us novices here. Simple.

I hope people know and understand that ratings aren’t the same for all clubs and the “fox footy lab” rankings are nothing like internal club rankings….
Exactly, some of the melts are laughable. Some posters don’t know the player and assume we’ve reached because the fox rankings say so. We rank the players where we rank them and pick accordingly.

Rodriguez is even worse. Started the year as a top 5! Never got drafted.
Nah he was way over hyped on here. He was borderline 1st round at best and even that’s a stretch.

Twomey didn’t have him in his top 25 rankings in July. Greeves was 11 in front of Grlj and Cumming at 12 and 13 and NHH was at 18

You seem a little triggered, not happy with the draft? I don’t think you are.. I think we’ve done well. Giesch was quite clear with best available over needs. I should have specified that for you a little more so you’re not feeling too disappointed.

Draft 4 players and trading 1 player who are all in the range of mid to smaller types but are full of run and agility says to me we drafted more from a needs then best available.. let’s agree to disagree

Where did I say I wasn't happy? Your ability to comprehend is clearly lacking. Have you finished school? I see you might only be 12 years old from your username.

Smilie? We literally took him last year
The 18-year-old ran an impressive 6:38 in the 2km time trial and 8.39 seconds on the agility test at the Draft Combine, excellent results for a player of his height.

people forget that. Smillie is a good athlete despite what ppl say on here.

Jagga Smith & Finn O'Sullivan both ran 6:27-6:28 in the same time trial, I don't think endurance is a concern at all for Smillie in fact I think it is very good.

Greeves has neither speed or endurance at least Smillie has one of them, speed isn't Smillie strong suit but he was quicker Langford in the 20m sprint who ran the 2km TT in 6:16. that's why these guys got picked in the top 10 they have good endurance, I don't believe in today's game a player that has both poor speed & endurance would get picked high personally.

For Instance Grlj ran 5:58 which was 2nd so he Smillie is only 40 secs slower than the 2nd best runner in this draft not bad at all considering he is 6.5ft
