Pretty sure it’s wrong. If we had listed him as cat B we’d have still had a cat A list spot available, and given we didn’t have a pick in the rookie draft to even pass on it’s pretty certain that Saxena has been selected as a cat A rookie.
That what I thought unless we have 1 SSP Spot

Where we were in the draft, I love our picks
(The live selection of McC was a little baffling)

Now we need one of our existing mids and/or one of the new boys to develop and play alongside Nick and we can start to build again

Hoping we take picks to the draft again next year, maybe even add to the ones we have
Also hope for an important positional FA as well - but that’s a bonus

We're not obliged to pick a kid because of his name, or because he's been in and around the club for a good while.

The fact that only 60 players were taken in the main draft and no one even rookied him says a bit.

It feels terrible. I absolutely loved watching his dad and father sons are the best feelgood story.

But I would always prefer that our staff recruit who they think will be the best fit for the list.

From an expected top 5 draft prospect to not being selected. What a terrible downfall that’s been for Tommy.
I had been so excited at the prospect of getting him. Then disappointed the club didn’t want to go the F/S route.

What are options now? He has another crack next year? Could he end up a MSD pick up?

I still think there’s potential there. Reckon he showed something but his size was the let down.

I don't think he'll be giving up his dream of playing AFL. He'll just work harder & who knows, we pick him up next year as a f/s.

Not really considering MSD, because that would mean we have another LTI 🥴

We aren’t alone in thinking Mcguane isn’t quite ready for AFL footy.

Maybe he can be over time but right now …something is a little off as to why he has been overlooked completely by all.

I think it’s his speed/agility combination

For a small player, you need to at least be fast or explosive to succeed at the top level
He tested fast, but I don't think he uses it ball in hand yet. Needs to change his style and take players on. At the moment, he's not strong in a contest and is a non-damaging receiver. Who wants that?

You do realise that Cheesy said we were choosing between Jai and Tom. He was one player away from joining the club which suggests he was extremely close to being on the list, infact he couldn't have gotten any closer.
no prizes for being first loser. His fate was decided when we took four players instead of three in the National Draft with three of those players also being mids.

He had no chance today with a small forward providing a point of difference compared to our other draftees

In reality it wasn’t a choice between Tom and Jai.

It was a choice between Tom and Angus

But we'll never know how close the club thought the gap between those 2 were. It could have been an easy decision for them for all we know.

No doubt they would have wanted to inform Tom before announcing they were going to select Jai.
