So do rankings matter or not?
Not really depending on who's rankings and the circumstances
If a player was not injured or missed games then yes but with injured players or players like Robey which came in later i think you need to be more flexible
end of the day its the draft thats important as that is what matters

Hotton was ranked between 15-20 last year but pretty sure if he was not injured he would have been top 5

If I remember correctly, Vlaus played majority of his U18 year as a half back after being a midfielder majority of his juniors. Remember vividly fans waiting patiently for him to be given a chance in the mids 2013-2015. Who would have thought he’d end up being one of the best intercepting defenders in the modern era lol
His debut against the Eagles on a Monday night at subi kicking 3 goals
Was elite

Happy with CDT our new forward overlord if WC pass?
What part of 'that's not a ruckman' don't you understand campaigner? ;)

Look I wouldn't be upset. CDT would serve a purpose in 2 years when Nank is gone, but I'd prefer we used those 2 years to develop a potential gun midfielder.

Rucks are overrated in the AFL.

Agree best player available

Thats why i think in this years draft which is our 2nd year of a rebuild we need to go that path which coincides with our need's and that is midfielders and not HBF's.

Just about every ranking that comes out has Grlj around #8 and Taylor at a similar level but just about every mock draft has them coming to Richmond supposedly of our 'need' or interest in a running player like Grlj or a Vlastuin replacement Taylor.

Best available at picks #3 + #4 are Robey , Cumming then Sharp
Robey and Cumming would just about complete our midfield along with Lalor , Smillie , Hotton , Seth with a great amount of flexibility amongst that group of players interchanging between HF/Mid

It just makes so much sense
Geez! Stop it! You’re making sense. Your assessment is spot on.

Is there any change of mind around CDT of he is a fwd ruck rather then ruck fwd.

We took a fwd ruck last year in Sims so I'd be surprised if we took him if that was the case. While I think he can pinch hit forward he's much more suited to ruck first IMO. I see him as a more athletic Brodie Grundy. Anyone would be rapt if that's how he turned out....

Cumming's rating has gone up since he got injured. He was rated worse when playing.
Felt like he was getting better every week playing at SANFL level before he got injured.

last xavier that made it at afl level ?

Disagree. Best available. And there are no available mids without a key weakness or two in this years draft pool. Therefore, if a HBF, or a small forward etc. is deemed best available, that’s what we’ll take IMO.
Fair enough, but isn’t that the criticism of North, that they’ve drafted best available and have ended up with a team of midfielders. As Dylan said in the piece with Michael, they were into Tauru but went FOS because he was deemed best available.

However, I do agree with best available with low picks in the midst of a rebuild, but with an even bottom end of the draft pool which is compromised, we need to look at best available and while trying to address some gaps in our structure.

It’s been suggested that outside the top 2 or 3 picks and the top end Academy picks, then the next 10 are pretty even. Why wouldn’t you look at filling some holes.
