Talking to a young fella at work today who knows Sully Robey really well.
Says he’s an absolute gym rat. Been going nuts in the home made gym with his brother for last 18 months and has become an absolute powerhouse. Said his family are pretty well off and he’s got a younger brother aswell.
Also said he was given the option of missing the grand final with his broken collar bone but told them he was going to play no matter what.

All I know from reading this thread is there is going to be some top tier melting on draft night.

Last year we had a million picks so got most players we were all keen on, plus took advantage of sliders in Trainor and Armstrong and the night ended with Blair sexually assaulting Brady Rawlings.

This year we have rucks, mids, bolters v best performed, third talls, mid/fwds all with some question marks, all different players and have to squeeze them into 2 picks.

Gonna be mayhem.

If we’re drafting a flanker with pick four, may as well draft a tagger with pick three Groupie_
Who are the gun Midfielders we should be taking prior? Sharp will be nothing more than a bog average player. Cumming is a possibility. The rest are ordinary. Absolutely we should be considering X. My hope is WC lose their marbles and pick Sharp. Happy days. 🎈

He does look quite good.

Although, if we are so keen on him, why wouldn't we trade that pick back into the teens to get him, or someone similiar with an extra future 1st or something decent back. A top 5 pick is extremely valuable.

When the general consensus is that Jevan's draft range is pick 15-25. It would be more of a reach than Reece Conca.
Strauchy based on his highlights (which we know are highlights) Jevan looks a top 5 pick every day of the week hence he said himself that he would pick him with number 1.

what is this obsession with burning top 5 picks on a third defender?

I thought it was a total crock, but people are actually putting money behind it..

I'm so depressed now.
I think AFL HQ are behind it

it is like how did Shai Bolton get to the twenties??

I think it is about Sharp and Cummings going to Essendon to propel them to their next premiership after they have been waiting for 25 years at the moment. That would mean Essendon contending in around 4 years or so possibly, keep AFL executives happy like with wildcard round extra coffer intake

Robeyy has been good but I have only seen the highlights. to me he could be something but there are risks, like with any player and he seems more a forward hybrid with midfield capability. Robey you could put on a wing, no doubt as a default and I think he would do well for starters there

gun to my head I would take Sharp and Cummings beforehand. I would argue Sharp is sounder than Robey at this stage and it is more a punt Robey could be better, and he could be better but that is not in stone yet. Both could be stars, Robey could be anything but there are risks, I do not not buy the lack of interest in Ciummings and I do not buy the ignorance of SHarp's body of work as if he could get past Melbourne according to some. I think its is a setup narrative to get them to Essendon, like a BS narrative over Heppell compared to Conca

The risks with Robey to me are injuries, and whether he is as competitive as we think in the contest against fully developed bodies. He will be a AFL player and he will mix it, but is he really as good as we think he could be as a midfielder?? Robey is no Ablett Snr either, his marking seems largely on the lead but his hands in the mark appear sound. I think he is worthy of top 6, ignoring academies, but higher is a bit of a punt, but there is a bit of a punt over all of them to a degree. Base case for Robey a very mobile forward, who could play wing and maybe mix it in the middle, so he is top ten for sure in my book

Sharp is a far sounder selection than Tom Scully. Tom could run all day and kick, but there is more to it than that. I would have Sharp ahead of Griffen to. According to wikipedia Ryan Griffen was 192cm, Sharp is 188cm, I would argue Sharp is better at the groundball as has better agility. Cummings is better as well, Cummings could develop into anything, he could be a superstar, a lot seem happy to sleep on his potential. Now some of this may not happen but to me it is not improbable. Cummings is like Tom Papley with extra tricks, including size and speed, who can go into the middle as well. Those types rare as hell. About as rare a Robey or CDT as well. With Cummings around one could only think how it would do wonders letting Hotton off the chain

OK people - long time watcher (often shaking my head) but only very occasional poster.

Like everyone, I am caught up in the excitement about next week. Unlike many, I'm happy to say that I know very little about the players and am happy to put my faith in our recruiting team. And whoever we pick, I will throw my support behind emphatically.

Here is my issue, though: I have just arrived in Bali for a little 9-night pre-'smash out the end of the year' break. I just tried Kayo and like the betting apps, it isn't available in my location.

Any idea how I could watch the draft otherwise?

What are your thoughts on Phillipou?
I like him for a few different reasons. Not top 5 but I think in the range of the mocks. Only seen highlights but seems eems capable and potential is there. I might have a few ahead of him but he is a first rounder for sure. Can kick of both feet, has a leap, ticks boxes, but not as strong as others. in the mix though, barring injury, he should be a player so first rounder for sure

I didn't like the Trainor pick at the time and I like it even less knowing we're apparently still in desperate need of an intercepting defender.
we need players in a lot of different positions.

I like Trainor, where he ends up playing is harder to determine. I think he is more a team guy and happy to be the gel that helps us win premierships so where he might play might be determined by how our other players are going in different roles and he simply helps it work. The main thing with Trainor is no head knocks and he needs to be conscious of that without being weak, it its more about playing smarter.

Trainor has swingman/utility value and if he is contributing to a premiership team I do not think he gives a toss, and frankly how the game plays for each team evolves all the time. In time Trainor could be playing roles we have never seen before in different dynamics so who knows how he helps us win as long as he helps us win and he is happy that's the main goal
