So interestingly K Grundy has officially been told he is ineligible for the Hilux - after the season finished. M Stock has been told he will instead receive the Hilux.

What are everyone's thoughts?

It seems interesting that only a few weeks ago K Grundy was on an official Fantasy podcast where they were discussing him potentially winning the Hilux - no mention about being ineligible.

The Traders would technically be considered employees of the AFL, yet people are able to pay them (via Patreon) for information, yet still be eligible for prizes.

I bet there are hundreds of people who have won a prize (whether weekly or overall) and been either a direct employee or immediate family member of Telstra, Toyota or the AFL, yet nothing has been done until now.

What a sh*t show. Just give them both a Hilux, or at least offer K Grundy a Grand Final package as a peace offering.

Seems harsh to me but did think it could be the case when the Traders interviewed him and thought it strange it wasn't mentioned at all

I mean technically he could have extra info on Swans selections/injuries etc, but far out its still a massive effort to win the whole thing.

I figured something was likely up when they made no mention of the overall winner on the final pod of the year.

If you explain what you mean by that maybe it would make sense
Because there would have been a number of ineligible people that have won some sort of prize over the years. Whether that was a weekly prize, or simply a hat. Because according to the T&C's it includes anyone that is a Telstra, Toyota or AFL employee/immediate family member. Also you're not even required to confirm you've read the T&C's each season, only the season you register. So for all we know, Grundy started playing Fantasy in 2012 or earlier, before his brother was even associated with the AFL

It's a bit of a P.R mess but you'd be more pissed if a relly worked for Toyota or Telstra.

In the other thread, someone mentions, Grundy is employed by the Swans, who have a license to compete in the AFL, so not directly an AFL employee.

How would they even check this?

So all the kids of dads who lay cable or repair wires for Telstra can't win a hat?

Family member starts a job at the Telstra shop selling mobile phones?

Hot MRS is the Ming Mole at the localToyota dealer? That's not gonna help you win.

Fake example, Brother works for Sunshine catering who have a catering license to sell hotdogs at the SCG. AFL employed, or 1 step removed like Brody Grundy is?

Acknowledging the T&C's is part of the sign up process every season

Perfectly understandable that 2nd place should win the Hilux. Any extra inside info he may have gotten could have been the difference maker. Things like who Jordon would be tagging is important information. I do doubt that Brodie and his brother discuss team tactics but you can't rule it out.

What was strange was that no one from the AFL fantasy competition cottoned on that he was Brodie Grundy's brother despite it being a well publicised fact in the fantasy community and didn't inform him earlier in the season that he was ineligible.

I mean he was on the Traders podcast and they talked specifically about his brother.

You think they would have worked that out before letting him on the Traders podcast.

The rules do specifically note it, and I agree that it's a valid concern that he could be receiving insider tips to gain an unfair advantage. Even if we think back to when people were making decisions around Grundy in relation to Ladhams being named, it's not hard to imagine his brother inquiring as to whether that was likely to affect his role and points scoring.

The oversight from AFL Fantasy is that they should have cottoned-on this was Grundy's brother a while back given how highly ranked he was and then notified him that, even if he did happen to win it or finish top 10, he wouldn't be eligible. While I'm sure he'd be unhappy, it wouldn't be as devastating as winning the thing expecting you'd be getting a Hilux, only to be told you're actually getting nothing. In his mind, too, being invited onto the official fantasy podcast, where they discussed him potentially winning the car, was likely seen as an endorsement and probably erased any doubt about his ineligibility.

My biggest concern is the precedent they've already set. It's confirmed that multiple people outside of Australia have received prizes over the last few years which is clearly against the rules. You can't just make rules and apply them whenever you feel like. A brother living in another state probably has a lot less of an "advantage" than a best mate of an AFL player asking for advice. Yet the mate can still win prizes according to the outdated rules. The advantage would have been much greater prior to the rolling lockout, but everyone is pretty much on the same playing field now.
