I'm really hoping we stick with Caminiti in defence when Doogs comes back. Think he has done very well playing kpd. It's his 2nd game there at afl level and will only get better. Think Wilkie will also be more effective being allowed to play 3rd tall and actually think this setup will be better than when we had Battle as we'll have 2 true kpd size players and Wilkie will be taking intercept marks all day long

Yes agree as per my post you replied too. Personally I would play all of Dougs, Caminiti and Wilkie in our backline.

Webster Howard Wilkie
Sins Caminiti Nas

Where exactly Dougs, Caminiti and Wilkie all play depending on match ups.

Caminito has the tools and skillset to become a very useful backman in the longterm. In the shorterm he has a lot of good defensive qualities that Arie lacks at present. Arie will get better and better with games at Sandy though.

It could be if we are playing a team with a mosquito fleet forward line that one of Howard or Caminiti misses that game. But most weeks I would play all of Dougs, Caminiti and Wilkie.

Stocker hasa number of advantages:
Isa mean bastard
Can play down back as well as take some midfield rotations if required. Windy our No 1 Tagger though.
Stocker has a real point of difference with his aggression and hardness.

Agree 100% about his versatility through the midfield. And defence.

Hopefully he can lock himself a spot in the best 22 as we walk taller with him out there.

From a limited sample size I think Mac Crea is the missing link, loves his role and is the'Big Dog' to quote Paddy Cripps in the middle, something we haven't had since maybe Lenny.
Such a shame that we recruited Ryder, Wood and McRaygun when they've only got a few years left. Then again, that's the reason we got them so cheap.

It's a pretty good recruitment model for top ups, but it's frustrating that we can't build our team around these players who will be slowing down and retiring before too long.

It certainly beats the top ups of other clubs like Richmond going after hopper and Tarabto

Carlton - with who knows what junk, Essendon with their junk.

At the very least ours are seriously great value

5 years with Wood so far and another 3 to come. McCrae, at least 3 and hopefully antother 2. Thats not bad career at a second club.

Yep, However Paddy got us to the finals in 2020, and may have been helpful in quelling Nasiah's initial homesickness and the work Wood is doing outside of games has been acknowledged as inspiration by the younger players, and Macrea is teaching a young midfield how to go about it, whilst hopefully inspiring the targeted trade and free agent players to come on board.
It's effectivly the Geelong model with the premierships yet.

Fair call, Battle was great for a run and penetrating hoof forward, Wilke pin points his kicks whilst saunting out of the back line, you could argue that style suits the run and gun style coz Wilkes kich lands on the wing at most allowing the forwards a little more time to get set for the next kick from the wing, deleting the high ball into the forward line which is easier to defend.

We got Wood at the perfect time. He cost nothing but a rookie spot and had been injury prone for most of his career at the time.

You couldn't fit Stocker in the best 23?

Ages

29, 29, 31
22, 21, 30

25

Shows just how important the drafting of Tauru, Hastie and Barrat was. And also, based on height, how important Hammer will be to our future.

Sincs strikes me as (touchwood) the type that can go til he's 38. Like his number sake.

Wilkie hasn't missed a game and started late. He's got financial reasons to stick around too (haha and hes an accountant). He gets to 34-35 easy.

Webster and Doogs I can see pulling the pin at a more 'standard' age.

That gives Tauru/Barratt 2-3 years development at a min. Unless we make some harsh calls.

Pretty happy with coaches votes so far this year tbh:

17: Sinclair
12: Macrae
9: Marshall
8: Wanganeen-Milera
5: Owens
3: Garcia
2: Windhager, Wood
1: Wilson

Great to see Macrae performing (tick for the recruitment) but even better to see Nas, Mitch, Hugo, Windy, Wilson all grabbing votes already. The lads really coming through.
Garcia votes mean we have 12 players born since 2000 who have received coaches votes at some point. Behind only Suns (13) and Crows (15)

Blues have 3

Wood cost nothing but yet has turned his AFL career around.

Bloke is a good modern winger and also does set some high standards.

We have looked properly young the last two weeks.

And I know we had a few out, but it's worth pointing out that we had one player in the team last week born between 10 March 1996 and 25 June 2000. Our median age player on the weekend was Max Hall (11 older, 11 younger).

Also, to another of my repeated points: we were younger but more experienced that Richmond.

I just watched the replay of this game and WOW! I haven't seen a St Kilda team work so hard for each other, be so selfless and enjoy each others efforts for a long long time. That is the type of unison and enjoyment you only see in the very best of football clubs.

If anyone has any doubt about the quality of kids coming through go back and watch this game. In a year or two these same kids will be absolutely dominating the game.

NWM is an outright star of the competition. His attacking game and kicking are elite, but so now are his defensive efforts. Some of his spoils and tackles in that game show he is a lot stronger than he appears. I absolutely loved that he also was prepared to fly the flag against Lynch when things were getting lively, shows how much he cares about his team mates.

Garcia is our version of Libartore he is like a dog with a bone. I cant remember ever seeing a kid attack every contest as hard as he does at such an early age. He is a little left foot centric but that will improve with time as he understands he has the pace to take opponents on.

Travaglia has shown I have absolutley no doubt he will become a very very good midfielder. The kid just competes and for his size he has the heart of a lion. Just imagine what he will be like when his builds some size.

Hall will become so important to our forward line, the team % things he does might go unrecognised by he is already above average. That on top of his ball use and ability to spot up team mates is elite.

Owens is Mr St Kilda! He will only get better and better as his confidence grows, he is already a bull of the competition with such a great attitude.

Windhager is only a baby as a midfielder and continues to improve, his work rate and attitude will ensure he becomes an absolute star. Josh Dunkley started as a tagger and I see a lot of him in Windy's game.

Collard what can I say, his defensive work rate and chase down tackles are sensational. Add that to his goal sense and the kid if he keeps working will have the AFL comp at his feet.

Wilson we all know he is a star in the making. He had one of his more quiter games but they will be few and far apart.

Keeler if supporters cant see the huge potential in this kid they are not being serious. He is still a baby body wise but watch when he builds into a mans body he will start dominating the competition. The love and energy shared by the indigenous kids playing together is infectous and will only grow - kudos to Bradley Hill he has done so much more for the club than what he shows onfield.

Caminiti already looks like an experienced defender and as his confidence grows so will capacity to take intercept marks. The kid will be the greatest recruiting bargain SOS has ever discovered.

Hastie is another who is quietly developing into a very good player. He is similiar to Webster completely fearless in the air and his kicking is a weapon and will get better as will his attacking game.

He is not a kid but people knock Ronnie Byrnes's disposals, but gees he hit some brilliant targets during the game. He does have the occasional fluffed kick but his effort and the remainder of his game well make up for it.

If these kids can bridge the gap between them and the senior players quickly the future is looking very bright Sainters! Add Higgins, Phillipou, King, Tauru, Barratt, Boxshall, Dodson and I believe Jack Carroll will make it and thats the nucleus of our next premiership side.
