Those in here praising Keeler’s three touch effort last week need to realise that he’s a liability until he develops some strength. One touch today and provided absolutely no influence in marking contests. I have confidence he will have the drive to make it, but that’s why we are offering him a short term deal. If we had a couple of mature 195cm plus forwards in that game and we probably win.

Coops is pretty much a flat track bully at the moment. His best football is played in bursts when he hits confidence and usually when the team is flying.

But if the team is down or forward line is struggling as a unit, he generally drops his head and there is no coming back from that.

He is undersized so that definitely works against him but sometimes he just doesn't work hard enough to make a contest.

He will benefit much more when we get bigger bodies in the forward line but he has to narrow his gap between best and worst because it's massive right now.
Charlie Curnow sized, good mark, was a reliable kick. Just needs the games pumped into him.

Stick with Keeler - we don’t have a choice anyway
Who’s our forwards coach both for set shot kicking and leading patterns or non existent leading patterns
Higgins needs his arse kicked on set shot non - routine crap.
Wood needs a set shot coach.
Same with Owens - how hard would it be to get a pro in ???
Re Hill - I fear that his teammates no longer believe he should be playing. He is now costing us multiple goals shirking contests , getting trapped and mis kicking- can’t go on for selection integrity. I’ve been a supporter but not anymore.

We are playing kids, we are competitive against good teams, some of our kids are starting to show some good signs (Garcia, viking, Hastie). I'm happy with things at the moment. Certainly enjoying watching the games to see the kids grow more than watching older hacks playing and still losing.
But what I really want to say is that I fully and utterly trust our recruiters.
Max Hall is a gun and we seem to have got several good players late or rookie draft over the last few years. So I'm fully confident that the players they are looking at will turn out good.
Also well done to those who were praising Max Hall in pre season, you guys have a good eye.

Autopsy y’all

The inside 50 forward entries that we butchered are on the coaches, but the kicking at goal is on the players. If Wood + Sharman + Higgins nail their set shots we win that game.

The last quarter opened up because the game was over, Hawthorn stopped caring, and everyone was gassed.
Sorry, but no.
So many excellent opportunities wasted by players like Wood and Hill and others from the wing inside 50 who just needed to find someone and kicked straight to the opposition.

I actually lost count how many of these there were under very little pressure at all. Every Saints supporter groaned audibly when it happened.

Hall was about the only one who managed it tonight. You just know whoever he was kicking it to was going to get it.

Aren’t the coaches meant to improve skills? Fitness? Strength? Motivation? Get the best out of players? I don’t know how it can just be one and not the other.
Skills, skills and more skills.
I don’t believe we lacked in the other areas tonight. The stats tell you that.
