Gather Round tickets snapped up in record time

The AFL is pleased to announce that more than 195,000 Gather Round…Festival of Footy tickets have sold… with five of the nine games sold out, 20,000 more than this time last year.

Member on sale on Tuesday saw a significant uplift in demand for tickets this year, selling more than 100,000 tickets in the first four hours, in comparison to the same amount in 24 hours last year.

This year there are an extra 47,000 tickets on offer for fans with the two Saturday matches being ticketed separately.

Tickets still remain for Collingwood vs Sydney Swans on Friday night, Carlton vs West Coast on Saturday afternoon, Melbourne vs Essendon on Saturday night and a very limited number of restricted view tickets and tickets for the Pepsi Collective for Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn on Sunday evening.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said it was clear Gather Round momentum was not slowly down.

“The demand for tickets this year was significantly higher than the first two Gather Rounds, with more than 195,000 tickets being purchased in the first two days,” said Mr Dillon.

“A ticket to the matches at the Barossa Park was always going to be one of the hottest tickets in town and the fans have certainly illustrated that by selling out both matches so quickly.”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Gather Round continues to exceed all expectations.

“We are honoured that so many footy fans from around the country are making the commitment to travel to our beautiful state to experience this event like no other.

“They’ll be truly welcome.

“If you haven’t got a ticket already – get in quick!”

Tickets for the remaining matches can be found here.

Awesome result for the Giants. Regardless of your thoughts on them, a sellout crowd means 22.5k people are attending footy in Western Sydney which is incredible progress from the near non-existent base they started with. I’m still of the belief that the Giants suffered the most from Covid, not allowing them to carry any momentum from their first GF appearance. Hopefully they can build off of this second wave of success moving forward.

Actually, on average from 2002 - 2011, more people attended footy in Western Sydney (next door at Stadium Australia for the three annual Swans games), than they have for Giants games in the 14 seasons since.

But yes, this week is a good chance to be a full house. Around 120 seats left, plus 500 standing room. There was about 15k seats sold to members which means that most of the subsequent 7,500 tickets sold this week will be Sydneysiders. Reckon there might be a crowd split of 2/1 in the Giants favour. Good signs.

To be fair, those games were stacked to draw massive crowds. The standalone mid season game against Collingwood especially.

For all the talk of the Swans hating the ground they still averaged more than 40,000 at the ground.

Now less than 50 tickets. How do you know 15,000 were sold to members?

Looks like I was wrong, Fox footy don’t have their normal broadcast tent on the hill like they had last finals series or gather round.

Because there have been around 7000 tickets/a third of the ground released this week. I have the week off, been bored and following closely.

Update on my counting for Geelong vs Brisbane:

Approximately 3000 seats left (excluding standing and restricted view). They have sold about 3000 since Monday from what i've counted. They also released random bays in level 1/2 that quickly sold that aren't included in my rough count.

Nearly all seats are released, except the back 14 rows in 5 bays of the olympic stand. The Olympic stand only released additional tickets today.

The Warne Stand is almost all sold out. The majority of tickets being sold are in the Ponsford. This includes $35 tickets.

This is about 2000 behind last year's prelim.

Fox did have their usual broadcast position on the hill which would have reduced the crowd a bit.

That's really dumb and lost revenue for the AFL during finals.

On another note the giants v hawks game is down to standing room only. Might have a record crowd at engie stadium, a good reflection on the giants building a nice little core fanbase.

By 2000 people? You would have thought that a final would get a bigger crowd than H&A purely down to the purchase step involved 1 week out compared to 11 game memberships where you might miss a game here and there. The H&A crowd was amazing, not sure how they did it.

Very valid point. I think another sellout still demonstrates the growth of the Giants in Western Sydney, that now a team solely representing them can draw a crowd of 22,500. Sydney as a city, used to host a total of 12 games, with 9 at the SCG (1 hosted by the Bulldogs) and 3 at Accor, with those Accor games usually featuring high-drawing Vic teams. Now you still have the Swans drawing above 35k most weeks, and the West is now getting 8 games of their own. It's why I believe the sooner GWS get out of Canberra and focuses more on Western Sydney, building a consistent attendance culture, you'll start seeing more consistent growth and inroads in the city's west.

They keep releasing more tickets. Tomorrow won’t be a sell out.

What's weird is Dillon said on Wednesday when interviewed that the giants v hawks game was a sellout, I thought it an odd comment but maybe he was meaning other than bits and peices (ie. 2 seats in one bay, 3 in another etc).

Its close enough to a sellout that the AFL are going to use it as a success story, rather than it be a story about how it hasn't sold out. And Dill probably thinks its beneath him to sell tickets.

Same with tonight - theres still about 7k + AFL members isn't sold out, But I don't think I've seen anyone really pushing to try and sell those tickets. People are so used to tickets selling out immediately, that I bet there are people that want to go that compltely gave up and don't realise theres still seats available.

The only seats left to sell are 1-2 randomly located throughout the ground. For all intent and purpose it’s a sell out.

It’s a bit like the AFL Grand Final which always has a crowd of 100,012 or 100,016 or 100,024

The fact that they are selling standing room is a very good sign that the ground record will fall.
Agree, or get very close to.

I cannot recall any sold out games in the last 3 years that had obstructed view tickets sold. Anything before 2023 is before my time so cannot comment.

Any games during the H&A season I don't think would come close to squeezing out every single seat to being sold due to member turnout etc.

Caveat, of course, is that I cannot be certain what's left but the AFL seem to be pushing hard for infill for each and every seat to be sold.
