Taylor Smith plays for Brisbane, not Geelong.

Gabrielle Trainor Medal Top Ten
1 Zarlie Goldsworthy – 40
2 Rebecca Beeson – 38
=3 Tarni Evans – 37
=3 Eilish O’Dowd – 37
=5 Cambridge McCormick – 35
=5 Katherine Smith – 35
7 Emily Pease – 34
=8 Madison Brazendale – 31
=8 Georgia Garnett – 31
=8 Kaitlyn Srhoj – 31

Goldsworthy and Beeson trade places from last year's result.

Tarni Evans finishes 3rd for the third time in four seasons.

Eilish O'Dowd (4th in 2024) jumps up to equal 3rd, finishing on the podium like many Irish players have done... but we'll continue to keep an eye on whether any of them finally take out the top prize among the other 17 clubs.

If Hawthorn go deeper than wk2 in finals then McDonagh is a strong likelihood for Hawks BnF considering no Wales for a large period of games. They're the only two who should win it.

Idk, West won it last year and her numbers are pretty much the same this year (disposals slightly up, tackles slightly down).

Always seems to be more of a lottery with permanent forwards, too. McDonagh was 5th in 2023, then in 2024 dropped to 9th below Emily Everist who missed two games!

Congrats to Ash, thoroughly deserved it has been an amazing season she has put together to date.

Still amazes me that she was passed over in the first two drafts.

AA Squad's out:

2025 AFLW ALL-AUSTRALIAN SQUAD

Squad members by club

6 - North Melbourne
4 - Brisbane
3 - Carlton, Fremantle, Geelong, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Sydney
2 - Adelaide, Greater Western Sydney, Hawthorn, St Kilda
1 - Collingwood, Essendon, Gold Coast, Richmond, West Coast, Western Bulldogs
Erika O'Shea incredibly stiff. Would've been my first-picked North defender. And Jasmine Ferguson would've been second.

Collingwood, Essendon, GWS and GC really didn't deserve any nominations. Geelong and Sydney had 1-2 too many.

Needed to swap them out for the stiff ones from NM, Melb, Fremantle and St Kilda.

2025 GC SUNS Club Champion Top 10:
1st: Charlie Rowbottom (78)
2nd: Havana Harris (74)
3rd: Lucy Single (72)
4th: Niamh McLaughlin (67)
5th: Annabel Kievit (59)
6th: Meara Girvan (58)
7th: Georgia Clayden (53)
=8th: Maddy Brancatisano (49)
=8th: Lily Mithen (49)
10th: Darcie Davies (41)

3rd win for Rowbottom, and her 2nd in a row. Been in the top 2 for all of her 5 seasons.

Single's highest finish, having previously managed a 5th and 4th.

Brancatisano's equal highest finish--has come 8th once at GC before and once at Richmond.

Jesse Wardlaw not in the AA squad is surely a pisstake?
didn't kick nearly enough goals to be in consideration as a forward. you can adjust for the team she plays for or whatever but it's hard to justify including a player who kicked 13 goals when 6 players kicked 20+

2025 Geelong Cats AFLW Best and Fairest Top 10
1. Georgie Prespakis – 185 Votes
2. Nina Morrison – 110 Votes
3. Mikalya Bowen – 76 Votes
4. Becky Webster – 54 Votes
5. Jackie Parry – 51 Votes
6. Claudia Gunjaca – 47 Votes
7. Aishling Moloney – 40 Votes
8. Amy McDonald – 39 Votes
9. Julia Crockett-Grills – 25 Votes
10. Georgie Rankin – 24 Votes

Equal PB for Bowen, matching her ludicrously low third-place finish in 2021 for West Coast.

Also a PB for Parry, having finished 6th in the previous 2 seasons.

AFLPA MVP nominees

Some things which are either surprising or just noteworthy:

Adelaide didn't nominate Niamh Kelly (AA squad).

Carlton didn't nominate Cordner (AA squad).

Fremantle didn't nominate either O'Driscoll or Strom (both in the AA squad).

GWS didn't nominate Beeson (2nd in their B&F).

Gold Coast didn't nominate Harris (2nd in their B&F).

Geelong didn't nominate Moloney (AA squad).

Hawthorn didn't nominate Lucas-Rodd (AA squad).

North Melb. nominated O'Shea (not in the AA squad) instead of Birch, Bogue, Kearney and Randall (all in the AA squad).

Port Adelaide nominated Dowrick (6th in their B&F, not in the AA squad) instead of Woodland (2nd in their B&F) and Houghton (AA squad).

Sydney nominated Kennedy (not in the AA squad) instead of Fish (in the AA squad).

AFLPA Most Courageous nominees

I'd probably give it to Wilcox, followed by Dawes and Bowers (who has already won it once before).

AFLPA Best First Year Player nominees

Sophie McKay and Sarah Poustie miss out in favour of teammates who were also Rising Star nominees this year.

You know what it is fascinating to see who clubs rate compared to the award decision makers. I don't watch enough of the other teams so apologies, but I 100% would have had O'Shea in that squad over others. In all honesty though North should have had 1-2 extra players in there. This isn't just any team - they have been the best by a large margin and the selections should match.

According to my 3-2-1 votes, the 8 players most deserving of winning the League B&F tonight:

wawards1a.png

And the next 8:
wawards1b.png

Not that I would call these projections/predictions, nevertheless I would be extremely surprised if anybody from that second group of 8 managed to win. But wouldn't be too surprised if any of them squeezed into the top 5.

Same goes for Hatchard, Finn, Cordner, Gardiner, Wales and Scholz who all polled 9 votes in the Teen Wolf Medal.

All-time League B&F votes leaderboard:

96 Monique Conti
96 Ebony Marinoff
82 Madison Prespakis
79 Ellie Blackburn
74 Anne Hatchard
73 Ashleigh Riddell
70 Emily Bates
68 Karen Paxman
66 Jasmine Garner
64 Kiara Bowers
60 Ally Anderson
59 Emma Kearney
54 Erin Phillips
53 Alyce Parker
52 Brittany Bonnici
50 Chloe Molloy

Garner and Bonnici the only 2 on that list without a top 3 finish.

Fittingly some tons will be brought up tonight, as has been the theme of the season.

Along with 2020, I'd have to say this is the worst job the selectors have done in 10 seasons (back 5 in particular is farcical):

Brisbane - 2
Carlton - 2
Fremantle - 2
Port Adelaide - 2
Geelong - 1
Gold Coast - 1
Great Western Sydney - 1
