2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Pick 7 was worth it for the memes alone......

7 is overs but we seem eager to just get the deal done.

I do hope we are getting something late back to assist with our other deals.

7 years must be all about spreading the celery cap.

It's how the cats and tigers were able to bring in cameron and lynch on a million a year while having maxxed out caps with a top 2 list.

More years on big money deals means more ability to shuffle money back and fwd

Probably selling him a bit short at this stage, he's ahead of LOC on raw talant. LOC was also trialled in the midfield late so it remains to be seen where he ends up. Hastie IMO will likely follow from Wilkie in any event since he's got the tools.
I'm not suggesting at all that LOC has near the amount of talent as Hastie.

But if we are talking about a small lock down defender, I don't think that is the role that suits Hastie. He's a much more attacking player and looked to struggle at the times he was forced to play a lockdown role.

I think he's more likely to take over the NWM in that rebounding defender role than Jimmy Webster's shut down role.

Pick 7 (likely drifting to 12) for a contracted Flanders is a no brainer this year. His ability to get ground ball and release by hand or hit targets by foot will really help Nas and our forwards.

His acceleration is underrated around stoppage as well. Seems to be very good at getting first hands to ground balls.

Who ever we took with this pick we would have been questioning more than Travaglia is now with all the queries over those at our draft range.

We originally brought liam henry in to inject some pace into our midfield.

With the core mid group now of nas, flanders, macrae, windy, garcia, steele, pou- we really don't need henry in there anymore

Which is good- cos he can't get on the park!

But im reminded of how the hawks used cyril at his peak.
They kept trying to make him a mid- and you could see why, cos he was very damaging... but he kept pinging hammies etc when playing and training as a mid.

So they gave up- and kept him permanent fwd as a low possie, but high impact small fwd to great success.

With flanders now in- we could do the same with henry to hopefully put his injuries past him.

Give up the mid stuff and just have him focus on creating ground ball havoc alongside ryan and higgins

His commute is not our problem, we train at Moorabbin and play home games at marvel.

Where he chooses to base himself is his problem not the clubs, he’s contracted for two more years.
You are totally missing the point

He is in an industry where he has options. He can request a trade and 9/10 it gets done

The club has some power but generally speaking, the players have more.

Again, how far do you commute for work? Would you move 2 hours away and be forced to play a different role? Or, would you look into your options?

I think we say that we plan on playing every player we draft or trade in in the midfield.

Henry looks nothing like a midfielder to me. He played his best footy for Freo on a wing, I think that's where he likely lands for us but he needs to pull his finger out.

If you are somebody of the calibre of Ro, you are not commuting from, say, Lorne (mid point) to Moorabbin 4-5 times a week. You don't need to. How far do you commute for work?
I saw on Corey Enright's interview on Dyl & friends that he still lives in Geelong. That's a hell of a commute. We will have to work harder to stop Geelong poaching him when Scott leaves

Enright can pick him up on the way. No need for them both to sit in traffic.

Someone the calibre of Ro can afford to hire a driver to get him back and forth. No need for him to feel stressed sitting in traffic.
