2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

And this is a warning to all clubs about which managers you **** off.

I reckon a few of these player managers might want to tread carefully with how hard they push, depending on the exact wording on some of these existing contracts and how overt they are with their threats for want of a better word. How long until we see our first case of a club or the AFL taking legal action against a player agent/management business?

Every now and again someone needs a good kicking with the loggers cleats as an example and a warning, Merrett might be it.

If so Essendon need to start planning some payback on Mitchell and the Hawks. Start offering stupid money to half the list, it will turn a few heads with any luck and destabilise the family club.
throw a big money long term contract at Jai Newcombe next year

It logically makes his return untenable.

Most supporter bases wouldn’t want a bloke running around for them that doesn’t want to be there doesn’t see success on the table with them and has embarrassed himself but dragged the club through the mud with him in the last month.

Petroro is just doing the dirty work now.
Nothing new in that interview though to make it less tenable then it was when Essendon turned them down an hour ago.

Killing it out at Bevo world, Dunkley, Smith, Ugle - Hagen, Stringer.
And they get upset when we accurately call them an unserious club. If it wasn't for their limitless supply of F/S they would be around Carlton/North/WCE level.

Given the talent at his disposal over his tenure, Beveridges time has been a disaster.

Smiths manager did similar last year at the deadline.

Walked into a room with Sam Power. Threatened him that if the dogs want in with any of his clients going forward they get this deal done.
Which is incredibly unprofessional.

I also reckon those threats are mostly hollow, some player managers might have some grievance with clubs but it would be way more likely to occur with players requesting a trade and a club not getting the deal done (like Aleer) than a club holding a contracted player.

I’d say you can’t pretend a different narrative.

He no longer wants to play at Essendon.
He wants to play at their arch nemesis.
He effectively said get on with your rebuild with the best offer he has ever seen for a 30 year old.

It’s pretty hard to put the blinkers back on in March and cheer the guy on again as you sit at the ass end of the ladder if you are a bomber fan

Essendon are one of the few clubs not to build into contracts rises in their TPP. they will raid like the Saints did, probably next year. Hawks would be on the list front and centre.
Hope they destroy each other like Richmond and Collingwood did in the 80's.

Thats certainly the goal of Petroro but its wildly unprofessional and frankly i hope that it galvanises the Bombers to hold him
Let the goblin jump up and down all he likes, clubs have longer memory’s.

What’s a player manager to the movers and shakers at these clubs, an annoying bug nothing more.

Agree if his 'preference' is Geelong. Disagree if he doesn't want to play for us.
Doesn't matter, its not a fire sale. We get extreme overs or no deal.

He can sit in the VFL for two years for all I care.

F*** Geelong, with their arrogant shit unders.

2025 1st, F1 and F2, consider it to 7.29 pm then say no.

"Doesn't want to play for us" is a bit of bollocks from Tom Morris and co. Only gotta watch him post-match this year in the last few games celebrating and laughing with Nas, Windy and some of the younger group. I'm sure he'd love to go to Geelong, who just lost the Grand Final and subbed out there 35 year old ruckman, on sweet deal then back to St Kilda playing a 50-50 forward/ruck role. But he'll be fine either way.

Haven't seen the Saints team yet on the vision from Marvel.

Hope Gubby shows up sober this time.

At the same time, significant amount of bombers fans to want to keep him and have heard the brand new president reiterate multiple times they will keep him.

It's pretty hard to then face the members if he goes back on the very first thing he declared once getting the job.
