2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

I would have thought Hastie is more in line to replace Webster in the long term as that mid sized defender.

At the moment, LOC seems like a more dependable option. Plays tight defense, he's stronger and has neater disposal. Hastie provides more dash and intercepting ability but he's clanger prone and still very slight.

Who gets the spot comes down to who can work on their deficiencies. Can LOC contribute more offensively, and can Hastie tighten up his defense and commit fewer clangers.

LOC & Carroll are a strong chance of being a part of the back 7

LOC is on track to be a really great asset for us

Application is elite and is ultra-professional. Developing rapidly as a result. Already showed last year that he has a role to play in the team as a lockdown defender/utility in the Mark O’Connor mould. Brilliant size at 190cm. Once he learns the offensive stuff then he’ll be in the 23 IMO

To say he’s “100%” gone next year is madness

Also think we can’t write off Pat Said yet. It would’ve been nice if he could’ve had a full pre-season but he had some really good Max Hall-like games in the VFL when fit this year. Low possession but high impact. List spots will be super tight but he’s not an automatic departure yet. Last time I checked has put on 5kg this off-season

Yeah, Hastie looks more like a rebounder than a tight defender.

I really like LOC, real no fuss type that doesn't have many deficiencies and keeps progressing each time he plays seniors. He's as tough and as brave as they come too. Hopefully he learns some self preservation because it has cost him games going in too hard.

I guess there's a world where both could be in the team. We have to replace Webster (LOC might be best suited) and Nas (sounds like Clark, Carroll and Hastie are options for the rebounding role) in the backline.

I think we have a few too many mids/general forwards as well. There are so many who could play mid/wing and go forward, but not a lot who have shown that they could rotate through defence. Maybe we still see a fair bit of Nas and Ned behind the footy.

Seems like we have an issue where we kinda need a couple of players who probably aren't in the top 26 best players on the list to be in our starting 23 for balance.

I cannot believe there is someone saying we have too many mids

At this rate of improvement LOC will be the brownlow favourite by the first training session of the year. The legend seems to have grown every time I've logged in since Christmas.

Not too many mids, but mid/forwards. Of the players that I have in the top 26ish on the list:

Mid/wing only: Macrae, Boxshall

Mid/wing/half back: Nas, Flanders, Sinclair, Windy, Clark

Mid/wing/forward: Wood, Hill, Phillipou, Wilson, Garcia, Hall, Ryan, Henry

Boxshall is young and could likely add another string to his bow. I have no doubt that Hall could be a very good half back but he's too valuable up forward. What I'd be very curious to see if if Pou could play the Goddard half back/mid role. I'm hesitant to even include Sinclair on that list as well as I think he's a C-grade mid and an elite half back.
