2025 player moves - ins and outs

It’s just a shit response that they don’t have Under 19’s so what do you want them to do. The same as clubs that have no juniors at all then poach them soon as they are old enough.
How about for one you make your own junior programme work. Second if you can’t get a junior programme of your own how about investing some money and resources into the one you poach off. That way at least there is some merit to the club having access to them.

It’s simple.

It’s bad for the game and the league.

Recruiting juniors and U19s en masse out of a club that has developed them just means they will have issues with seniors down the track.

It’s not rocket science. Juniors become U19s become seniors.

It’s shithouse and while clubs will do what they want, there needs to be things in place to protect the league overall.

And they still say they want 50 clubs.

Just because you’ve played juniors for a club doesn’t mean you own them to become senior footballers.

There’s been plenty of instances where the senior club doesn’t invest enough time in the step from the junior club to the senior club and end up leaking like a sieve.

It’s about setting clubs up for sustainability. Which is what AFL Vic and the league should be doing. It should be their #1 focus.

To have this as an aim and have systems in place for it - yet still have a situation where entire teams can be poached by other clubs - is ridiculous. It doesn’t fit with the overall strategy.

And how does trying to force people to play at a certain club help that?

Just as likely to have someone drop out from the game completely if they can’t get to the club they want to in order to play with their mates.

It’s all a balance. It’s out of whack at the moment. A higher-ranked, stronger club knocking off a lower club’s U19s en masse is not good for the game. Big getting bigger and the small getting smaller. That’s not a good recipe. End of story.

Nah I disagree with that. Some kids become so disengaged with the transition from the junior to senior club that you just lose them from the game completely.

If these kids want to continue playing as a group but not at The Basin then it's fair to assume there's some stuff in the background as to why they don't want to be there.

Lets be honest chilli if they won't get a game at the basin there is buckleys chance they will @ boronia

localfootyguru gave some great facts in the program they are building at the basin. Kids getting a real run in the seniors. For nearly a whole team to decide to want to move to somewhere In Boronia they won't have a damn chance at that is damning. Watch them xfer again in a years time or just retire.

A instance I heard once was north ringwood changing the mind of a dozen or so yarra valley grammar students on if they should play for the old grammarians u19 team or NR's one, Phil Harris I remember his name was the instigator, the nasty man promised regular games once they completed their u19 apprenticeship that never came of course and they all went their seperate ways lost to the game. The grass isn't always greener!

You’re just making that scenario up with zero basis.

How is that making up a scenario, it's a very generic statement.

It could be something big or something small. Could be genuine issue or something petty but the fact is there is clearly some reason there that this group of kids no longer wanted to play at The Basin this year.

Yeah, got sold a dream by Boronia.

We live in an age where parents love having their kids called. Tickles their egos that they can tell people little Johnny got a phone and the club rate them highly.
It’s amazing how happy players are at their club until they get a call.

I don’t know what has happened but to suggest there was some kind of issue at The Basin is unfounded.

They might very well have just got a better offer from Boronia. If you’re looking to poach nearly an entire team I’d imagine you would be putting some sort of offer together.

Overall it does nothing for the league or the sport, except taking a bunch of players away from their home club - which is apparently the opposite to what the league and AFL Vic want (hence the points system etc).

You get the best kid or the leader they follow.
Word is Basin’s 2024 u19 coach wasn’t happy being overlooked for a senior role and actively worked against his former club suggesting to anyone who’d listen the boys need to go to a higher division or never amount to anything. Filled players/parents with delusional expectations fuelled by his own disgruntlement. Boronia were the benefactors being so close .

Bayswater also getting afew from the basin. Players going from 17a to div3 colts would also have a fair bit to do with it

Free uniform/subs would do it.

Free uniform/subs might make a difference for a player who's already decided to leave about their destination, but I would be extremely surprised if that lured anyone out of a club. It's not like it isn't something that could easily be matched by the club they're leaving if they wanted to stay.

A group of players with no issues with their current club don't all up and leave just because the best player leaves.

Free uniform/subs/boots definitely helps and has been the go since Jesus played full back for Nazareth…it actually broke up my old junior side..in the very early 90’s!
